LG's press announcement prior to CES 2026 focussed on a new lightweight material they have called Aerominum to achieve "a more portable, durable and premium design", "This innovative material reduces the laptop’s weight while reinforcing its structural strength." Initially, notebooks with this material will only be sold in the North American market. See also https://www.engadget.com/computing/laptops/lgs-aerominum-gram-pro-laptops-feel-impossibly-light-and-strong-200317743.html. I wonder if the new material is less expensive than magnesium.

The press release and CES only included two models: The 17Z90UR with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 GPU and the 16Z90U with a 2880 x 1800 OLED display (will that be the display sold in this 2025 model or something different?). We can expect that other versions will also be refreshed with Panther Lake CPUs.

Searching the internet for "1LG 6Z90U" or "LG 17Z90U" doesn't reveal many other clues about the 2026 models. The only link which showed up is this.

How are your LG Gram's holding up? In general mine holds up pretty good. Battery degradation is for me noticeable after nearly 2 years of use - but still pretty good. Clearly not as good as it once was however.

The main problems are - the super flexible screen - seems to get more dead pixels. I have 8 white pixels if I count correctly. I never had such a problem before that slowly more pixels became dead - but then it's way more flexible display as I ever had before. Luckily the resolution is high so it's only visible on a full black screen (or single color). On the plus side - besides the dead pixels the screen is still very uniform and the backlight hasn't lost power. It's still really hard to see on the balcony in shadow when it's very light in summer however. Would still prefer a semi matte solution (and 50-100nits more brightness).

More annoying is the paint slowly loosing touch with the magnesium body. I used a blade to scrape of the paint on the edges because micro bubbles if formed are pretty sharp. I think this happens in combination with sweat. Never had such a problem before on another laptop. It's a bit more annyoing around the touchpad area. Cannot easily flatten it there.

Fingerprint reader has clearly become degraded too. Get about 50% wrong results and yes I updated my fingers in Windows. I still used Windows 10 as some days on 11 had much worse battery life so I rolled back and don't plan on upgrading as long as Windows 10 is supported.

Keyboard had some keys getting stuck - taking the cap off and putting it back carefully solved it.

Great - the display hinge still works like new. Touchpad glass is still very good - and the keyboard hasn't gotten smeary either. The palm rests lost some texture and are a bit stickier - but less so than on other notebooks used before.

Overall - not as sturdy as some older Lenovo Thinkpads (e.g. T440s) but actually better than my previous laptop - a Thinkpad T480s (which I never should have bought because it had too many problems right out of the box). I would give it 9/10 (considering the light weight, or 8/10 not regarding the weight). Components/hardware inside all fine - no problems.

The chassis of the Gram 16 still holds up very well - even though I often stuffed it into my backpack without any cover while hiking/backpacking/travelling. If I could chose - I would opt for a plain magensium chassis without color however. The main upgrade still would be a brighter and less mirroring display - the second big upgrade of course would be if it used AMD Ryzen platform for even better battery life and thirdly some more supports below the chassis so it flexes less (anything I glued on didn't survive long term). I will wait out I think another 2 years before upgrading - and then hope for a laptop with those problems solved - and also will chose 32GB RAM. Cutting video 16GB RAM is a bit troublesome. I don't compile other stuff on the laptop - I do that remotely on servers (with 64 respectively 128GB RAM) so only video cutting is where the Gram 16 is limited for what I ever did and really noticeable not that fast - it's both the internal graphics and the RAM however which are a factor. I don't cut video often so I do want IGP only as battery life overall is more important to me. I do want to stick to lg gram form factor and weight class with great battery life.

Oh yeah in super low temperatures the battery fared really bad. Used it in Nepal at -5° Celsius and the numbers dropped liked a stone. Was happy to get 4 hours or so at those temps. Yeah my T440s didn't do better but never had such a great battery life in first place (meaning it lost comparatively less).

First an explanatory note about model numbers. LG has used a fairly consistent system for model numbers which is used here for brevity. The model being reviewed is 17Z90TP. The 17 is for screen size, Z seems to be Intel clamshell (but so is U, while T is two-in-one), I haven’t figured out 90, T is the model year 2025 or perhaps the hardware generation as LG also released some RU models in 2025 with 2023 Intel hardware, the P is an optional extra letter which indicates the Pro versions (some 2025 models also have L versions with Lunar Lake chips). My 2024 gram Pro is model 17Z90SP.

I already owned the 2024 17” gram Pro (and before that the 2022 17” gram). The notebook normally serves as a compact desktop computer. I like the 17” screen size without the bulk of most 17” notebooks (usually gaming machines) but with the capacity to hold two SSDs. LG’s 17” IPS panel is very good quality. The main limitation of LG’s slim format is the cooling system. This was partly addressed by the introduction of two fans in the 2024 gram Pro which had a noticeable performance improvement compared to the 2022 model, but two fans can make more noise than one.

In December 2025 I bought the 14” LG 14Z90T and was impressed that it could perform as well as my 2024 17Z90SP despite the latter’s two fans (see this mini review). I like my notebooks to be both efficient and quiet and I therefore tried the 2025 17” gram (17Z90T) which had the same internal hardware (except for 32GB RAM instead of 16GB) as the 14” but discovered that it under-performed (see my comments here). It was returned for a refund. Since then I’ve been watching out for a 32GB version of the Pro model (ie two fans) of the 2025 17” gram at a reasonable price and found one which had been returned to Amazon UK. I quickly discovered that this 17Z90TP performed more in line with my expectations.

This notebook is model 17Z90TP-G.AD88A1 which has the Arrow Lake Intel® Core™ Ultra7 255H CPU, Intel® Arc™ graphics, 32GB of 8,400MHz RAM, a 1TB SSD and a 17” WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS display. The weight, according to my digital scales, is 1.326kg which is slightly lower than the advertised 1.369kg but more than the 1.277kg that I measured for the 2024 gram Pro. I won’t go into all the details as much is the same as the 2024 model. My interest is in the performance difference.

Externally the gram 17Z90TP looks the same as the 17Z90SP. There are different stickers on the palm rest and the right Ctrl key on the keyboard has been replaced by a Copilot key. The display is the same top quality matte LG IPS panel. I could see that, unlike on the non-Pro gram 17, the vent holes in the bottom matched the fans:

Getting the bottom off the gram Pro is relatively easy: Remove the four rubber feet, remove four screws and then carefully prise off the base (the non-Pro gram 17 uses a different design with more screws). Internally there is the same overall layout. The fans look different but have similar size and the heat sink in the newer gram also covers the memory chips which are rated at 8.4GHz. The 90Whr battery in the newer gram Pro is the same physical size as the older 77Whr battery. Above is the 2025 gram Pro, below is the 2024 gram Pro.

The 90Whr battery was an unexpected bonus as the LG UK specs, replicated by the retailers, say 77Whr. The LG global specs for this model might be the cause of the confusion as they show 77Whr in the summary and 90Whr in the detailed specs. It seems that no one checked. 90Whr, however, is standard for the version of the 17“ gram Pro with the Nvidia GPU.

Usually I don't believe much in whatever apps supplied by vendors making claims about battery life improvement - but what does My Gram do?

On idle it decreases the CPU package from 0.5-0.8 to 0.3-0.7 watts - that's really crazy low. I left my 2025 16 Gram Pro in idle with browser open and display off prevented for 2 hours and it only dropped 6.1 % battery - screen brightness at 30% which should be around 150 nits. That would be well over 30 hours of battery life.

Surfing the web and browsing I usually got without gram about 6-7% per hour, but with my gram only 5% per hour - meaning around 20 hours batttery duration in real life. Yeah not panther lake levels but not far off. Wifi/Bluetooth both on. System drive Lexar NM790 - the lowest power use NVME with Devsleep (lowest) enabled.

I really do wonder what windows settings does My gram change.

I commented in my mini-review of the 14Z90RU that I needed to find a reason to buy the 14Z90T in order to compare the two models. Conveniently, a family member's 12 year old Samsung notebook was finally falling apart which provided an opportunity to pass along one of my notebooks so I ordered the 14Z90T from Amazon. It was an ex-return which hadn't had much use.

My 14Z90T came in a fairly plain brown box which contrasts with the premium-looking black box of the 14Z90RU.

My first finding was that the 14Z90T was, indeed, heavier than the 14Z90R. At 1.12kg it is what the specifications claimed. Why is it heavier? i don't know all the reasons but the bottom of the 14Z90T weighs 109 grams vs 64 grams for the 14Z90RU. The lighter part is a silver colour inside, a 2025-02-26 date stamp and is marked "Material>Mg". The heavier part is dated 2025-02-22 (the notebook manufacturing date was 2025-03-17) but without other information. It has a black finish on the inside. Why paint it - for better absorption of heat radiated from the electronics? Is it magnesium? Another difference is T has a long bar on the outside instead of the two back feet (14Z90T on left, 14Z90RU on right).

My 2024 gram Pro also has the long bar. Is it to reduce recirculation of the hot air that is blown out of the backs of the notebooks?

I also wondered if the 14Z90T had two fans, which would explain the extra weight. No, it's only got one fan but it is slightly larger than that in the 14Z90RU. The T has the expected two SSD slots but the slot nearest the CPU is marked SSD2. I can see no difference in the performance. Perhaps that slot is deemed secondary because it's nearer the CPU and likely to get hotter.

The supplied SSD is the same model of 512GB Phison SSD as in the RU. Performance is good but not class-leading:

The keyboard has the Copilot key where the right Ctrl key belongs. There's also a squiggle on the left end of the space bar. I haven't yet discovered the meaning of this. The T model has the infra-red camera for login.

As noted here, I stumbled on a new and less expensive version of the LG gram 14 and ordered one. It arrived today and my initial observations are:

	1. Yes, it is 2025 production despite the R in the model number. The label on the box says that mine was made (in China) on 24th September 2025.

	2. According to my kitchen scales (which have weighed many computers) it weighs 964g, so less than the advertised 999g. There was a time, many years ago, when Dell computers always weighed more than advertised so these days I'm pleasantly surprised when my purchases weigh no more than advertised.

	3. The hardware seems to be a mix of Raptor Lake and Alder Lake parts. The CPU specs are here.

	4. The WiFi module is the Intel AX211 (same as in my 2024 gram Pro). Thus supports Bluetooth 5.3 and not 5.1 listed in the on-line information.

	5. The case, battery and display seems to be that used for the other 2025 models (the bottom cover has a February 2025 date stamp).

	6. The keyboard is backlit. It has two SSD slots, so no spec trimming for the budget model. The supplied SSD, however, is Phison - not a well-known brand.

	7. HWiNFO provides some useful information about the CPU power limits:

This shows that the CPU is capable of much higher power for shorter periods. Under load the fan noise is noticeable but not annoying.

	8. On first charging the battery showed 69.7 Wh - about 3% short of the rated 72 Wh. This may improve with a bit of power cycling.

Got my hands on it this week, the case is the same I guess as the 2024 Pros and all the pros. Very easy to open to add an ssd. Remove the rubber feet, 4 screws, that's all, no glue, easy and nice.

But the internals... The best cooling solution thus far, with beefy heat pipes and big fans. Double the amount of speakers and all these at just 1.3kg.

It has the Arrow Lake Core Ultra 9 285H, got 15814 multicore score on Geekbench 6 and 978 on Cinebench R24.

Silent most of the time, the fans not disturbing when they are on (except when running the benchmarks at max setting), great performance and at the same time great battery life (I get easily more than 10-11hrs). The perfect Windows laptop.

I've just been looking at the details of the Gram 17 Pro although it's been around for a year or more. There are two versions:

	1. With a Nvidia GPU, which I was vaguely aware of and knew it had two cooling fans

	2. With the Intel CPU / GPU, which I've just discovered also has two fans according to https://www.lg.com/uk/laptops/gram-pro/17z90sp-g-aa78a1/. I've tweaked the photo on the LG website to show more detail and it can be seen that one fan is smaller than the other. Nonetheless, the extra cooling capacity is welcome.

The right hand fan occupies the space where the SSD slots are on the standard Gram 17 model. One slot has been relocated next to the CPU while the other is on the right hand side of the photo.

The other features of the Pro version are that it is thinner than the standard Gram 17 and the weight is reduced from 1.35kg to 1.30kg. The battery capacity of the Intel GPU Gram 17 Pro is 77Whr but so is the standard 2024 Gram 17. The Nvidia GPU version of the Pro has a 90Whr battery.

I'm getting tempted on account of the improved cooling system and the knowledge that my 2024 LG SuperSlim seems to sleep OK. Perhaps it's this detail which has caused my 2022 Gram 17 to have nightmares during the past few days: It's been waking from hibernation! I've done several reboots to see if that will clear what is a serious bug (could the latest Windows update have included something causing this?).

I've also looked around to see if there are alternatives to the Gram 17 in the same size. Most have 16:9 displays or have a strong gaming bias.

So I've just made my first big notebook purchase in a few years, getting some 'new to me' LG Grams, the 17z90q and 17z90n. But what do these part numbers mean anyways?

Well, here is what I what I was able to deduce with all my research.

The first two digits are the screen size, 16 for the 16" and 17 for the 17". This may even apply to their other Gram model sizes, but I haven't looked into it.

The next letter seems to always be a 'Z' on the 17" and "T" on the 16".

The next two digits are kind of interesting, typically '90' for the 17", except there have been 'half-year' models where there was a '95' model where some things were updated from the '90' of that year, but it was not the full next year model. For all effective purposes, it's a different model than the years it is stuck between. These '95' models seemed to happen in 2020 and 2021. So there were what I would call a '2020.5' and '2021.5' model. Also, the original 17" Gram used '99' vs '90' or '95'.

The last digit is the model year:

	r = 2023

	q = 2022

	p = 2021

o = never used since would probably be confused with zero used on the first 17"

	n = 2020

	0 = 2019

This is just what I've been able to figure out so if there's additional info, feel free to add to it!

I have been using a Galaxy Book Pro 13.3 (model NP-935XDB) as my travel notebook for the past 3 years (I didn't realise it was that long). It's behaved very well and the most recent upgrade was to a 2TB SSD in the M.2 2230 format. However, I've become increasingly annoyed by two aspects (i) the lack of keys for Home / End / PgUp and PgDn and (ii) the keyboard / touchpad layout is sufficiently different from my LG Gram 17 to cause a lot of mis-types for several days after changing notebooks. My eyes would also appreciate a bigger screen (although the Samsung's display quality is excellent). After my latest trip I resolved to look around for a replacement travel notebook which provided the missing navigation keys with the minimal weight or thickness increase. I've found that this time of year is good for computer shopping as retailers want to clear their 2024 model stock to make space for the 2025 products.

Samsung, despite my slim and light (0.9kg) Book Pro 13.3, make nothing similarly lightweight in a bigger size plus the 15" model lacks the wanted navigation keys. HP makes 14" notebooks with a column of navigation keys to the right of the keyboard but these weigh 1.3kg or more (almost as much as my Gram 17). Some Lenovo notebooks have PgUp/PgDn in cursor block and lightest is X1 Carbon (1.08kg) which is somewhat expensive. I then looked at LG's line-up and discovered the SuperSlim 15.6 which was introduced in 2023. It wasn't so much the slimness which caught my attention but the weight of a few grammes under 1kg. I wasn't looking for a display as big as 15.6" but the format meant that the computer has a 3 column numpad which I can use for my navigation keys. It also has what LG claims is a premium OLED display. The next question was whether it was available in the UK and how much did it cost? The 2023 model (15Z90RT) was offered by a third party on Amazon but further searching revealed that the 2024 model ( 15Z90ST) with a 16GB RAM + 1TB SSD was available at a major UK electronics retailer for a lower, and what I considered to be reasonable) price so I placed my order.

What have I found? The SuperSlim is indeed both thin and light. It's 3/4 of the weight of my Gram 17 with 80% of the screen area. I've been less impressed by the display quality. The supplied LG colour profile had a strong red bias but this has been fixed by my Spyder 5 monitor calibrator. 1920 x 1080 resolution in the 15.6" seems a bit coarse compared to both the Gram 17's and smaller Samsung's displays. A 16:10 panel would also have been a welcome improvement. I suspect, however, that once the LG designers had decided upon a weight of less than 1kg, they found other other compromises had to be made. Hence only USB-C ports (three) and no USB-A although Samsung managed to fit the latter into a notebook of the same thickness. A micro-SD card slot is also absent. They didn't, however, compromise on the battery which is 60Whr. The fan noise at the default cooling mode is noticeable in a quiet room. I've visited the BIOS advanced settings (accessed using the key sequence here) to raise the fan threshold temperatures by 5C to encourage less fan activity. I've noticed one improvement over my 2022 Gram 17 - the new notebook sleeps silently. The SuperSlim has dual M.2 SSD slots and the second one is now occupied by a WD SN770 SSD which had been sitting on my shelf since it was superseded by a 4TB SSD in the Gram 17. Only time will tell if the SuperSlim will fulfill my travel notebbok requirements (spending most of it's travel in a bag and only used in the evenings). At the moment it's the second device on my desk with the primary use of streaming TV.

I'm still happily using my LG Gram 11th gen with glossy screen, which I've posted about in this forum before, but I am finally running into limits of the 16 GB RAM. I just saw this on the Costco website - (model 17Z90S-H.ADB9U1 )

I do notice that it is touchscreen, and that it weighs over 3 lbs (3.12 lbs, according to LG's website) I don't want touchscreen, but i may be tempted to give it a try. Has anyone seen the LG touchscreen implementation? It says the screen is 'non-reflective' but I wonder how it compares to the non-touch version?

Suffix 'S' = 14th Gen. Any comments on 14th gen, overall?

The 2TB is implemented as 2x1TB, which is not ideal; I would end up pulling 1 TB and replacing it with a 2TB stick I guess.

I bought the above laptop 2 weeks ago from Costco, with Intel CPU, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD. It is fairly nice. This is the first portable PC I have ever owned in 37 years of using them, and 32 years of building them - desktops, obviously.

I'm having issues with the power management on this laptop.

	1) on battery

Closing the lid when on battery should make the machine sleep. Even with the lid open, the balanced power plan is supposed to make it sleep at 3 mins of inactivity on battery. It just doesn't seem to go to sleep. My evidence for that is that after a very long (>24hr) journey during which it wasn't used and in my backpack, the battery was at less than 20% when I finally arrived at my destination and started using it.

Also, I couldn't easily connect my Sony headphones to my smartphone while in the airplane. The headphones were paired with both the PC and the smartphone. The headphones would always connect to the PC in the overhead bin first, which was presumably not fully asleep.

I kept turning the headphones on and off and manually trying to connect from my phone, and eventually won the race.

	2) lid closed, plugged in

At home, I use the laptop with a USB-C docking station, and the lid closed. The balanced power plan is supposed to make it sleep at 5 mins of inactivity when plugged in. It does not. It remains constantly on 24/7, consuming power. It can be ping'ed, remote accessed into, used locally with the KVM, etc. Forcibly using the start menu and shutdown->sleep has no effect whatsover.

These are serious enough problems that I'm considering returning the laptop to Costco, even though I paid for an upgrade from Win11 Home to Win11 Pro from Keysoff, and the key is now tied to this hardware.

Does any LG laptop user have an idea what to do here to let the thing sleep ?

The SD Card Reader on my LG Gram 17 (2021 model - 17Z95P) just stopped working; no obvious cause (no updates applied, no physical issues, etc). Tried two cards; both cards can be read in an external SD card reader. Device Manager 'Disk Drives' shows only the two SSDs that I have installed; I'm guessing that - if the card reader were working - there'd be an entry for the card reader there.

I've now had my 2022 Gram 17 for several weeks and a report is long overdue although it has yet to take over the prime position on my desk from the 2021 Gram 17. What are the key differences compared to the 2021 Gram 17:

The differences from the 2021 Gram 17

	The visible differences are:

The anti-glare screen (the 2022 screen is the LP170-WQ1-SPF2 whereas the 2021 screen is the LP170WQ1-SPE1 which suggests that the basic panel is the same)

The changed keyboard lettering with the main and shift functions being side by side rather than the conventional below and above (I find this change baffling)

No fingerprint reader on power button (effectively superseded by the better webcam)

Full HD webcam + infra-red sensor at top of screen which works well with Windows Hello

Pre-installed Windows 11 (although the later 2021 stock also came with this pre-installed)

Rubber strip along the back of the bottom instead of the two back feet (this probably works better if using in laptop mode)

The less visible differences are:

Intel 12th generation platform with i7-1260P CPU + 32GB RAM

Faster SSD (Samsung MZVL21T0HCLR = PM9A1 which is the OEM version of the Samsung PM980 Pro)

The biggest visual difference is the screen as illustrated by this photo:

I think that LG has done well with the coating as there's no visible reduction in the clarity of text although photographs seem to be slightly less crisp. Overall it's a reasonable compromise with the much reduced reflections.

	The Battery

The battery has a nominal 80Wh capacity. Mine showed 79.51Wh (99.4%) after being plugged in for many hours. The battery drain on idle is around 4.5W with a fairly dim, but usable, screen. After a few minutes I wondered why BatteryInfoView wasn’t showing the estimated battery time. I then noticed that the charge was still on 79.51Whr. This remained unchanged after running on battery for a couple of hours which intrigued me. Perhaps it was a consequence of setting the maximum charge level to 80% so I set it back to 100% and left the computer on charge overnight after which it showed the fully charged capacity to be 80Wh (which, unusually in my experience) is exactly the same as the design capacity. After this the battery discharge behaved as expected. I've yet to do any proper battery drain tests but expect it will handle a working day of light usage. There's plenty of room for a higher capacity battery and I assume that the headline weight was considered to be more important.

CPU Performance

My Gram 17 is fitted with the Intel i7-1260P CPU which is the only option offered with the 32GB RAM I wanted. Given the thermal and power limitations associated with the slim design the i7 CPU isn't able to reach its potential for any significant amount of time and most likely provides no performance improvement relative to the less expensive i5 CPU but is probably used to keep the marketing people and/or Intel happy. wPrime is a simple test of CPU capability and it's possible to select a different number of threads to share the workload. I tested with normal and high fan setting and with/without Turbo mode enabled. The results are interesting:

The high fan setting provides negligible performance benefit in wPrime while disabling Turbo results in about 5% performance reduction which illustrates how much the CPU speed is capped by the power limits when running four or more threads. Cinebench is another software package which tests the CPU and tests both single core and multi-core performance.

Cinebench 23 does multiple runs which provides a good test of thermal limitations. The results for this test show that the high fan setting enables a noticeable performance improvement but Turbo mode provides no benefit.

That's all for now. More in due course. Any questions or requests?

Greetings LG Gram fans. I am writing this on my new LG Gram 16 with RTX3050 and 32Gb RAM at the airport. I will add later in the week/next week more detailed impressions and add comparative photos, but just to let you all know that it is a HUGE upgrade from my 2021 11th generation.

The first immediate and impressive improvement is the display. Much brighter, no reflections, crisper. This has the variable refresh rate which I have the feeling improves massively the battery life . It has the massive 90Wh battery and the Nvidia card is NOT having any influence on battery for most normal productivity uses. Right now I am at 66% and Windows shows 8h20m, brightness at 30%, (seems more like 50% on the old version), wifi on, Chrome and Firefox showing a couple of tabs and writing on Word. Since the display has much less reflections I can also keep the brightness at lower levels and still see better while typing.

Keyboard is very similar, maybe a tad less mushy feeling, crisper and faster feedback, trackpad very similar but clicking is a bit harder, I am tapping more than clicking. And the whole keyboard has much less flex everywhere and underneath in the back the feet resemble the ones from the 12th gen, much better stability.

And of course it has much better cooling, double the intakes underneath. In High cooling mode, it can become loud, much louder than my old one, but the pitch is lower so I don’t find it disturbing. But under normal use it is super quiet.

For storage it came with two 1Tb Samsung SSDs (SAMSUNG MZVL21TOHCLR-OOBOO), which seem to be the same model, but with the 😧 drive I get no more than 3400MB/s sequential reads at CrystalDiskMark, which is almost half of the 6500 sequential reads of the 😄 drive. In my old Gram I had a PCIE 3.0 drive in the 😧 slot, so I could not see a difference. But here I guess the 2nd SSD only provides half the speed, a bit disappointing.

The only thing I miss is the fingerprint reader, I keep tapping on the power button. The IR camera is ok indoors, but while I was outdoors under the sun I had to always type my pin.

I have not yet tried to play any games or put the RTX3050 in use.

Don’t hesitate to ask me what you want to know, I will try to do some Cinebench tests soon when I get back home.

In summary, if one wants to upgrade from the 2021 model, I think one should opt for the RTX version.

I recently bought a Gram 17 model 17Z90P to replace a Dell Optiplex all-in-one which, I had decided, was taking up too much desk space. Before the Optiplex I had used an XPS 15 but my eyes were suggesting that they would like a bigger screen. So, with the Optiplex too big and and XPS 15 too small, I'm hoping that the Gram 17 will be a happy compromise.

What attracted me to the Gram 17? There's not much choice in the 17" category and the XPS 17 is overpowered for my needs. As a long-term user of the thin-and-light notebooks I was also curious to try an LG product and the 3lb Gram 17 would make a good companion to the 2lb Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 13.3 which I recently bought to use away from home. I spent most of yesterday transferring everything to the Gram 17 which is now in use. What have I noticed so far? The screen is very reflective but this can be largely mitigated by tilting it back as there's no loss of quality due to the excellent viewing angles. The keyboard action is very pleasant - fairly low travel but comfortable. I'm not a fan of having a numpad and would have preferred a column of navigation keys on the right side of the keyboard. However, pressing the NumLk key toggles between numbers and navigation keys (there's no status light but on an-screen display to show when the status is changed) so it's better than nothing. My last encounter with a notebook with a numpad was a 15" Dell E5570 which ended after a few months as there wasn't enough room for my left wrist on the palmrest. There's no such problem with the Gram 17.

A few days ago I had opened up the Gram 17 to add a 2nd SSD (Intel 660p which had been used in the XPS 15). Reviews elsewhere had indicated that getting inside wasn't easy. The difficult part is removing the four rubber feet on the corners as these are not only held in place by adhesive but are also embedded in recesses so it's a matter of prising them out of the holes. There's also a strange little foot between the two back feet which is too small to be in contact with the desk surface. The other screws are under covers which are easy to remove. Once the screws are out then it's a matter of prising off the base. I started at the middle front. Anyway, here's a view of the inside before I added the 2nd SSD:

There's plenty of empty space and I assume that the boards are shared with the smaller Grams using different cables.

The fan isn't very big but nor is it noisy. To be continued in due course ....

So I recently purchased these used for a very specific purpose--to be a portable RDP client with a 2560x1600 display.

Why? Because my main 'workstation' is a win10 IOT thin client attached to a 30" 2560x1600 display. And I have this same setup in various physical locations that I need to work because of the 16:10 aspect ratio and resolution that lets me work fast and efficiently. I just RDP around to my 'main' and pretty much continue working right where I left off.

My portable situation was less efficient because all I had was a 17" 1080p HP 8760w. While nice, not having the same screen resolution meant that I couldn't work as efficiently or as quickly. I couldn't justify the $1000+ price point of most laptops having a 2560x1600 display, but used Grams have come down in price dramatically and I was able to pick up two (one as a spare).

Now comes the challenge of getting my win10 IOT image from the thin client to work on the LGs. I've had zero luck so far.

So while I'm don't want to do a complete install from scratch, it seems like that will be the least time consuming option once I can get the isos downloaded. What I'd love to know is if anyone has tried this and any tips? Thank you in advance!

Hello, I too am a refugee from NotebookReview and TabletPCReview forum. You might have known me from the guy who first made the warranty claim of the battery of Acer TimelineX, which then triggered other forum members here to also do the same. Or you might know me from the guy who made Windows 8.1 custom ROM for some of the Surface Pro models.

Either way, I am now rocking a Dell XPS 15 and Apple MacBook Pro 13", both 2016 models. I am interested in getting the new LG Gram 16 2-in-1 but unsure of something:

	1. The battery life seems phenomenal even on Notebookcheck review. Can you guys do a battery report `powercfg /batteryreport` and report your typical battery life? The estimated battery life is located on the very bottom of the battery report page. Would be great if you could also describe shortly your usages when on battery. (For reference, my XPS is ~5 hours and my MacBook is ~3 hours, neither of which is satisfactory for me)

	2. The USB-A port seems to be fragile, any of you had it breaking yet?

	3. I noticed my XPS has a significantly worse glare when outdoor compared to my MacBook, often making any level screen brightness unusable, how are your experience with the LG Gram?

	4. The XPS seem to be keeping higher fan speed for longer, even after the machine has been idle for 10-15 minutes, which I find annoying. How does the fan profile work on the LG Gram?

	5. Does the speaker go as loud as a 2016 13" MacBook? My XPS often doesn't go loud enough

	6. Almost every review mentions the flex of the chassis and hinges. How's yours holding up?

	7. For someone looking for 15"+ touchscreen laptop with an extremely long battery life, do you guys have other recommendations?
