	Hi all, was on Notebookreview before and just see it have closed ? I just received this laptop and versus my old M18x R1 R2 and the 2013 one, Dell bios seem more shitty then in the paste. I try pushing the power limite in the ACC for the RTX 2070 but it locked at 0% ... anothers things, is there a good vbios to have ? What shuntmod can give on this special card ? If it not complicated where and what we need to do ?

	Update: <a href="https://notebooktalk.net/topic/2825-alienware-area51m-r1-ruefi-edit-to-run-ram-at-higher-speeds/?do=findComment&amp;comment=61686" rel="">Working at 2667mhz</a> without any CL changes as they appear to not matter. Need to buy RAM that will function at the speed you set or system may not boot.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	"2666mhz from 2400mhz by changing variable 0xA63 to 6B and variable 0xA64 to 0A." 0A6B = 2667 in decimal.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="image.png.0490df8c0bb1f406ce518e59a18276cd.png" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="11252" data-ratio="35.37" width="393" src="https://notebooktalk.net/uploads/monthly_2025_09/image.png.0490df8c0bb1f406ce518e59a18276cd.png" />
</p>

<p>
	By that logic then the original values in hex should be 0960 = 2400, 0xA63 as 60 and 0xA64 as 09.

<p>

</p>

<p>
	This is all coming from the discussion about the blue pictures below of RU.efi. The top screen capture is about CL edit of the RAM timing (when trying to support 2933mhz) where bottom screen capture is mhz speed edit.

<p>
	2933 in decimal is 0B75

<p>
	0x0941,0x0942,0x0947 are 18 decimal and appear to be the CL 18-18-18 settings. Where is tRAS and tRC? tRAS appears to be 0x0945

	However you need to swap the CPU to one that does not have the Intel e-fuses burned by microcode (happens on the later BIOS for security fixes). Otherwise your R1 will not boot.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I had planned an upgrade of the 9900 to 9900K, got one from eBay after confirming the user never updated their BIOS. A flash from 1.27.0 to 1.12.0 worked fine and then I used recovery method to downgrade to 1.3.2 which resulted in no boot. I then swapped to 9900K and system booted with 1.3.2 BIOS. I immediately changed BIOS settings to disable firmware capsule update.

<p>

<p>
	temps were ok when it booted between 40 and 52 degrees C , however once i started the stress test, it spiked to 95 then 100 in a few seconds which is not the normal behaviour i see with KPX thermal paste (spikes to 70s the goes up gradually from there )
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	so this means to me that the liquid metal doesn't have a good contact between the IHS and the heatsink. but i added a suitable amount of it and my temps are stable with the KPX thermal paste...

<p>
	unfortunately i didn't take any pictures.

<p>

<p>
	i am trying to rack my brain what else could be the issue,  any idea what could be the cause, could it be that there is a gap between the IHS and the heatsink but it only shows with liquid metal because it is too thin ?

	well , first of all i'm so pleased to find this forums since i was an old member of the notebookreview and it was a shame that it went like that i learned alot from many members there like Mr.fox and ssj92 and i really hope that the information that was there moves to here so there work and the work of people like them stay helping everyone who in needs for it.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	so this thread is going to be in two parts.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>1</strong> - all i could gather as a current information and files for the bios and the vbios of the device
</p>

<p>
	   - all the new updates of the bios starting from V 1.7.3 and above has a lock to not let the GPU surpass 75 degrees C so the only current solution i know is to revert back to bios V 1.5 which doesn't have this setting . however to prevent dell from auto updating your bios back to the a later version we have todo the following
</p>

<p>
	  * uninstall dell support assestance before downgrading the bios
</p>

<p>
	  * disabling the UEFI capsule update in the bios under the security tab .
</p>

<p>
	after doing that you are good to go downgrading the bios to V 1.5.
</p>

<p>
	  * after doing that its time to update the Vbios so the new updated Vbios V 1.0.0.5 does not allowing the GPU to pass the 150W mark so the solution i know is to revert back to V 1.0.0.3 which will allow it to go upto 200W ( still low by the way ) but better then 150W limit. the good news is that downgrading the vbios is much easier so you can just download it from the youtube link below and follow the video
</p>

<p>
	here is the link to the youtube link to the process including all the required files
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>NOTE: thanks to the guy who created the video he really helped alot by doing that </strong>
</p>

<p>

</p>

<div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo">

		<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="113" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/oLU7_rGPcmg?start=1&amp;feature=oembed" width="200"></iframe>
	</div>
</div>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<strong>2</strong> -  all the questions i have regarding the same subject <span>:</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>   - is there availble unlocked bios for this laptop ?</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>   - is there available a modded Vbios for this 2080 GPU to raise the wattage and down volt it ?</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>   - if all the above is not possible , is there any other way to override this limitations ? ( i have an alienware 18 with 4930MX and i'm using throttlestop to overclock it ) but i was hopping for away to do that from bios same like what i used to do with my lovley M18X R1</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>any suggestions is really appreciated.</span>
</p>

<p>

	i have the m18x and the alienware 18 , the sound quality for those laptops always made me disappointed in the sound of the area-51m so i started experimenting with the idea of adding a subwoofer to it . so here is what i got so far
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	i started by find the location of the sound card and check the availability of adding the subwoofer directly to the sound card socket . since the socket ( as shown in the pictures has 10 wires connector , 8 of them goes to the 4 speakers ( 2 on each side ) but the last 2 are empty ..
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	i connected the subwoofer 2 wires to the last 2 empty spaces in the socket but it didnt work , i'm not sure why . anyways i decided to split the last 2 wires for one of the speakers and connect the subwoofer to it and see what happens ... it worked and the subwoofer came alive ...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	it was time to find the physical location for the subwoofer , the challenges are the followings:
</p>

<p>
	1- need space that physically fits
</p>

<p>
	2- to be very close to the sound card to eliminate a longer wire which could add more resistance to the system for no reason
</p>

<p>
	3- have is stand on a flexible rubber or something to eliminate the vibrations
</p>

<p>
	4- add some sort of a tape to the top of the subwoofer box to reduce noise as much as possible
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	i used the subwoofer from the alienware 18 since the m18x subwoofer is a bit deeper then the one in the alienware 18 and i started to cut the box in order for it to fit the location.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	unfortunately the only place that has enough clearance for the subwoofer is the place which the hard drive sets . so if u like to do that u should know that the secondary hard drive should be removed .. the good part is that the subwoofer works well .. not as great as it is in the m18x due to the reduce in the subwoofer box size ( which shows in the pictures ... )
</p>

<p>
	- i thought about opening the ssd secondary hard drive and see the size of the inside chip to see if i can fit it in the remaining place next to subwoofer so i dont have to sacrifice the third SSD that i have ...
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	i had to do some measurements and cuts in order for it to fits but it fits ..which took a couple of hours
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	i added a 3M double side tape to the bottom of the subwoofer to fix it in place and reduce vibrations
</p>

<p>
	i added a 3M double tape to the top of the subwoofer box ( removing only one side to stich to the subwoofer box and keep the top tape cover to not stick to the laptop bottom cover.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	the subwoofer pox is not completely sealed yet from the sides which i dont know if it can effect the sound quality or no ... but there is no need to seal the bottom of the box since its sealed by the laptop palm and the mouse pad .
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	the result is overall good , there is a deep sound to any song and some bass to it ( not as strong as the m18x ) which could be due to the box size being smaller or the subwoofer being too close to the laptop bottom cover ( i think that could be solved by create an opening in a shape of a louvers at the laptop bottom cover to release the sound ( like the attached reference picture) but i dont want to damage my cover.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	here is my experience and i'm open to any suggestions..
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	hope that helps

	so i was doing some research about how to cool this 9900k in the R1 and i came across two product , the first one is water-cooling for the area-51m from aliexpress which is from linus video its not worth it .
</p>

<p>
	the second one is kind of interesting since its vapor chamber for the R1 from EBAY which as far as i know came on the R2 only.
</p>

<p>
	here is the link for it , out of curiosity any one used it or came across this ?

	as i mentioned in the other topic that my upgraded vabor champer for the area-51m R1 has failed and so i had to install the stock heatsink . however after i did that i found that my gpu is still thermal throtteling and as so the CPU at 5.1ghz single core or 4.8ghz on all cores overclocked by the alienware command center with nanual voltage managment at 1.24v and -48mv offset.
</p>

<p>
	so i decided i will disassamble the stock heatsink and remove the fans too to see if there is any dust stuck between the fan and the heatsink vints ( after removing the heatsink from the laptop u will have to remove a 4 small scrows and 2 electrical tapes each side which hold the fan in place )
</p>

<p>
	and OMG it was completly blocked by dust and no wonder it was thermal throtteling . so i did the folowing <span>:</span>
</p>

<p>
	- used an old soft tooth brush to remove all the dust from the heatsink vints and blow it next with a hair dryer
</p>

<p>
	- used the same tooth brush to clean the fans with some rubbing alcholl and blow it with the hair dryer
</p>

<p>
	- add new thermal paste ( KPX the best i ever tryed )
</p>

<p>
	then i assambled everything back.
</p>

<p>
	resaults is great ,
</p>

<p>
	- no thermal throttling on the GPU at all ( please note that i'm using a MSI afterburner to undervolt the GPU ) i'm at 1950mhz @ .943V all stable.
</p>

<p>
	- CPU thermal throttle at 5.1ghz while rendering 3d max vray or adobe premiere pro when exporting a video after 2 or 3 minutes but rather then this ( gaming or editing or installing softwares ) no issues no throtteling at all .
</p>

<p>

</p>

	Since Alienware has announced their X series and their newer M series perhaps it's time to split this section even further by changing:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	2015+ Alienware 13/15/17/51m
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	into:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	2015-2020 13/15/17/51m
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	2021+ X14/15/17/M15/17 R5+
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Just a thought. Or some sort of new way to organize them otherwise there will be a lot of models covered in the one section.
</p>

	Don't mind my X299 90% RGB Desktop Motherboard or the RTX 3090 OC Evangelion Edition on the bed hooked up to the Alienware lol.
</p>

<p>

<p>
	And don't mind my " building in progress... moble desktop " that is on the floor below the desktop . <span class="ipsEmoji">😅</span><span class="ipsEmoji">😅</span>
