  1. Wow. Can’t believe nobody’s replied to this. I think your effort is awesome. And it works! Bonus!!!
  2. Uh oh. My r3 is making 8 beeps: https://notebooktalk.net/topic/2537-alienware-m17x-r3-won’t-start-tried-r4-parts/ What is this? Why would it be incorrect? Ditto.
  3. Any guides on how to do this out there? I don’t want to lose my M17x R3 to an easy fix that is just foreign to me.
  4. This is quite a thread. I gave up trying to understand after the first half dozen posts. 😂 I’m trying to diagnose my 120Hz M17x r3 problems with a 60Hz M17x r4. The results were not as expected. If anyone who understands these screens can check out my thread I’d appreciate it: https://notebooktalk.net/topic/2537-alienware-m17x-r3-won’t-start-tried-r4-parts/ Many thanx. 🙏🏻
  5. Hi guys, One day my M17x R3 gave me 6 beeps. It’s a 3D version. No onboard graphics. I got a “2D” M17x R4 with onboard graphics & used it to test. I replaced the Nvidia 560m with a 660m & the R3 now gave me 8 beeps instead of 6 beeps. Looks like the M17x R3 supports the 660m? I put the 560m in the R4. It shows up in BIOS as Nvidia GFX. But in Device Manager it is just listed as VGA. In Properties it says “Error: Unable to start device” or something similar. Tried installing drivers from Nvidia and got the error message “Device not found.” or something similar. Does the M17x R4 support the 560m? I bought a replacement 3D screen & the R3 still gave me 8 beeps. LP173WF2 (TP)(A1) I tried connecting each of the two 3D screens to the R4 & both times got 8 beeps. Should the R4 support these screens? It has the 2D & 3D connectors on the motherboard. I connected the 2D screen to the R3 and got 8 beeps. Should the R3 support this 2D screen? It has the 2D & 3D connectors on the motherboard. :sigh: Are 2D/3D parts interchangeable? Any help would be appreciated! Thanx
  6. I also read that you can unplug & remove the battery. Then hold the power button down for a while. Then plug in and power up. It worked for me. Thanx. Can you flash the bios & use an 880m in 3D? What’s the best card you can use in 3D with a flashed BIOS? Would this mean a 660m would give 8 beeps? Or can it boot to Windows but lacks 3D Vision functionality?
  7. If your old GPU is a 580M then most likely it has gone bad. I feel like it was a 540M. If not maybe it was a 560M. Wasn’t a 580M. I can’t find these cards but found a 525M. Tempted to buy it just to confirm the problem. Anyone know if this card would work in The M17xR3? Thanks
  8. Thanks for clarifying this. I’m trying to solve the mystery of why my M17xR3 still gives 8 beeps after replacing the 3D screen. Looks like I need to buy a new graphics card. Thanks again.
