  1. I've been tempted to pull the trigger but am holding off for a bit. I'd like to see that G-sync works properly with the internal display first and maybe how the 4090 stacks up as well. I hate returning items to Microcenter. It is my favorite shop and so many people abuse their return policies. I'd like them to stick around.
  2. Will you guys please just move on...
  3. Don’t want to derail the thread, but if you go the M16 route through Dell there’s a 10% off coupon floating around. I priced the same config including 4 year premium support for $2650-ish before tax. I’d then buy some 32gb ddr5 kit somewhere else. Anyhow, I also canceled my Pro 7i order.
  4. I just watched the hands-on as well, interesting move by Lenovo and one that I don't agree with. Makes me wonder how the Pro 5 will be with similar config; if it goes up to a 4080 as well then there's no point in buying the Pro 7i, for me. Can always flash the vbios if Lenovo gimps a 4080 on a Pro 5. The chassis downgrades are disappointing. After having Windows Hello face unlock on my current laptop I am not sure I want to go back to something that doesn't have that or even a fingerprint scanner. Also very curious if removing the holes on the topside affect thermals at all. Lastly, the removal of the lit port labels on the back of the laptop- why?!?! That was such a great feature that I took advantage of daily when I had my old L7. The only redeeming qualities to me are 1) vapor chamber and 2) the new Vantage software. I love that you can tweak everything down to GPU TGP in 10 watt increments. Performance will have to be more than just a little better than the competition for me to buy this, I think. If they end up making a Legion 9 or whatever that has more bells and whistles, that's a d**ck move.
  5. I am surprised too, usually the Legion 7 appears in spring or even summer. I am torn about the 4080 vs 4090, not sure how much I'd benefit from 4090.
  6. Fyi, Legion Pro 7i w/ i9 and 4080 is live on Lenovo's site. I ordered using a 5% off code and 6% cash back through Rakeuten. Delivers end of Feb so I have time to cancel if initial reviews don't look good. Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 (16″ Intel) | AI-tuned Gaming Laptop | Lenovo US
  7. That's fantastic performance for sure! I'm ready to eat my words from when I thought the 4000 series might be disappointing. That $3600 USD price tag for the 4080 version though...I have an Alienware M16 4080 ready for pick up today for $1000 cheaper. Would love to get the Blade because it looks damn good this year. Maybe by end of year the price will come back down to earth. Long time no talk, bud. Are you upgrading to the new Blade?
  8. Probably correct. Lenovo is always so late to the party in terms of actual availability, so if Pro 7i actually will ship out next week that's enticing since who knows what availability (or price) will be after the initial launch batch. *Edit, going to resist and wait for review and availability from reputable companies. Just looked at B&H return policy and buyer comments, basically once you unpack the laptop it's not returnable unless "defective". The " " emphasizing at their discretion. My luck will be getting a stuck pixel or having a G-sync issue, and B&H wouldn't take a return for that I don't think. I'll go and put B&H in the same basket as Antonline; shady business and avoid at all costs.
  9. What is the consensus on the new Pro 7i with the 4090 for $3299 through B&H? Price is much lower than what I expected, as the launch price of Gen 7 w/ 3080 Ti was higher. I know the 4000 series is overhyped, but if that 4090 can match or come close to desktop 3090 performance, I might have to buy / try it out in the hope that G-sync actually works this go around.
  10. Wait, seriously? The 4070 has a 128 bit memory bus? I looked at notebookcheck site before and it said 192 bit. And the 4080 is 192 bit? If true that is ridiculous.
  11. That's a great deal. Glad you are enjoying it. I was very impressed with the thermals and sustained performance when I had it. The only reason I'd buy a next gen laptop is to get a 16:10 display, but even then, it's a questionable purchase. I am irritated that Nvidia is again pulling its BS and intentionally mis-labeling GPUs while increasing the price. The laptop 4070 is the worst offender, being only 8gb and 192-bit memory bus. That should be the 4060, and the 4090 should be the 4080. This is the first year that the --70m series GPU is a horrible purchase in terms of value, in my humble opinion. But that also applies now to the 80 and 90 series as well, LOL.
  12. Keeping my eye on the Legion Pro 5 AMD. I really dislike the design of the current L5 Pro, it just looks awful to me (like an MSI clone, also dislike MSI). Glad the new Pro 5 resembles the regular 5 series from 2022. Too bad the 7 won't sell with AMD CPUs in the U.S., no idea what Lenovo is thinking on that one. Availability in April 2023 means you can actually buy one in August 2023, by which point all other manufacturers should be readily available. Especially with all of the prior Covid delays in China, I really don't expect to be able to easily buy these new laptops anytime soon. Lenovo is so irritating in this regard. I hope I am dead wrong.
  13. No, I am using stock vbios. Correct. I did a factory reset but have not set anything up on it yet. It has to be something Lenovo software / bios / Vantage related, why else would it happen on multiple screen types on different Legion models. There are many Reddit threads with people experiencing the same issue, not sure how widespread it is. Also likely varies based on the game. So bizarre, I’ve tried almost everything there is to try in terms of settings, disabling programs, drivers, power options, NV control panel options…
  14. Completely disabling G-sync is the only fix so far. Even when in Hybrid mode and G-sync isn't available, games still stutter. You need to actually uncheck G-sync in the NV control panel and then go back in to Optimus / hybrid mode, then there are no issues. I've tried old drivers, Lenovo stock drivers, every setting in NV control panel...nothing works. Tried reverting back to Windows 11 21H2. What a bizarre issue that only seems to affect Legion laptops that I've tried.
  15. Could this be the culprit? The high DPC is a result of me dragging the window and running Windows snipping tool. If I let things just sit and do nothing, there are no DPC / latency issues.
  16. Yeah, I installed the complete app by mistake then realized I needed to register. My optimism may have been premature, game breaking stutter still in Cyberpunk even with G-sync off, and still present in Forza Horizon 5. I know both games can be finicky, so maybe not the laptop's fault. But they both run near flawlessly on my other laptop.
  17. Initially didn't give me a score and then I realized I needed to register. Anyway, my score is 3589 (median for the 3070 Ti Laptop is 3439).
  18. Decided to try one last time with a Legion 5 non-Pro AMD. I'd read a random post somewhere that the latest Nvidia driver resolved the G-sync stutter issue that plagued the 2021 Legions (5 Pro, 7 with 1600p screens) as well as 2022 5 Pro (1600p) and 5 non-Pro (FHD 165hz) that I'd tried. Couldn't resist the black Friday deal + 15% cash back through Rakuten. My latest L5 has a 1080p 165hz display made by AUO, first time any of my Legions had an AUO screen so I was cautiously optimistic. Sure enough, no G-sync stutter at all, finally. Zero CPU throttling when running Cinebench R23. During the test the 6800H stayed at 4.3-4.4 ghz on all 8 cores for the whole test and max temp was 94 degrees, avg 90 degrees. Multi score was 14,550 which seems to be where it should be. GPU performance is stellar too. I found a compatible 3070 Ti vbios with wattage 125w - 150w that actually boosts to 150w (had seen many posts that the L5 was capped at 140w by the system bios) during gaming. Slight OC on the GPU yielded a Timespy score of 12,052 overall, 12,339 graphics, and 10,650 CPU. On the SoTR demo my avg FPS is 127 compared to 131 of the Alienware w/ 3080 Ti that I have. Very pleasantly surprised / punching above its price.
  19. I am guessing it'll be higher than $5000 when paired with the highest 4000 series mobile GPU? The current highest end 17" is $3800 and that's with a non-HX CPU. This does look awesome but no way in hell would I buy it haha.
  20. That is useful info, thank you for posting it. Would've been useful for when I still had my Legion 7 yet still would've frustrated the heck out of me probably to the point of selling it anyway. 🤣
  21. If the price goes back down to $1099 that's the best deal in the entire laptop market, IMO. Should be interesting over the next month re: holiday pricing. @saturnotaku, I feel like I am one step behind you on laptop choices, LOL. First with Legions, then the Blade, now with Asus. For $620 that's a no-brainer. Will be keeping my eyes open on potential deals.
  22. We'll see. I love the keyboard on the L5 Pro, best I think I've ever used. Feels the same to me as my old ThinkPad(s) X1C, only on a gaming / real laptop. **Edit- apparently it's the power supply I use at my office re: choppy mouse / touchpad. SlimQ 240w, worked fine with my Legion 7 but for some reason the L5P doesn't always get along with it. Using the Lenovo brick and all good. Still doesn't resolve my G-sync issues, but at least I know the laptop isn't defective in other respects. **Edit 2: Installed the stock Nvidia and Intel VGA drivers from Lenovo's site and everything works perfectly, G-sync included. Very annoying that only very old drivers work, but is what it is.
  23. Thanks. To answer your earlier question about other content, when I ran Timespy the display flickered every now and then, almost like artifacts (GPU was stock / no OC). Grid Legends as well, massive stuttering. Same behavior upon reverting to older bios v40. Did exactly that when I did the clean install. No luck 😕
  24. Did a complete clean Windows 11 install and then reverted back to bios 40. Same really bad touchpad choppiness and skips. The touchpad did not even respond when installing Windows, I had to use external mouse until install and updates were done. I have no desire to take apart the case and attempt to tighten the touchpad, if that is even the issue.
  25. Yes, performance is the same with adaptive sync off and g-sync on, in terms of frame rate or benchmarks. I tried again this morning and amazingly everything worked briefly- G-sync on, no stutter. And then s**t hit the fan. Mouse / trackpad became very jumpy and errant. Restarted a bunch of times and G-sync stutter occurred again. Uninstalled Vantage completely, same behavior, jumpy mouse included. Tried to reinstall GPU drivers and the system did not even recognize the dGPU and nVidia driver wouldn't install. Rebooted, system bios initially didn't give me any graphics mode options as if there was no dGPU. Rebooted again and I could then see dynamic vs discreet. Graphics driver (stock Lenovo) then installed, but touchpad and mouse, etc., are all over the place and the system just isn't usable now. Uninstalled mouse and all related drivers, reinstalled with Windows update. Same mouse issues. At this point, I think I just have a) a defective laptop / GPU and b) horrible luck with Legion laptops. Am not re-ordering the Pro, sadly. For what it's worth, my display type is BOE0A1F. What panel do you have? **Edit- just did a full wipe / factory restore and the mouse / touchpad is still jumpy and very erratic / semi non-responsive. Did not set it up yet, this is just on the initial Windows 11 welcome setup screen. Could be, curious to see what others have.
