  1. Looks like PMP16 is a better choice than the P16G3. The only thing that worries me is that the OLED display seems to add 20-30W(!!!) to idle power consumption. This hurts run times BAD. I would love to have a tandem OLED display, but I'm not willing to sacrifice the battery life.
  2. I know that there's a problem with idle power consumption in PMP16, I've seen a review on the YT, where the reviewer claimed it's because it has OLED display. But other similar platforms with OLED don't have this issue. The question is will Dell fix it with eg. UEFI update, or not? 30% is a lot, but it also consumes a lot more power (285W in test vs 180W theoretical in Thinkpad). Unfortunately, I haven't seen performance figures from P16G3 yet. Is it really that much? It'd put P16G3 on par with last gen platforms or current gen slim 16's.
  3. Hi guys! I am torn between the two options: Dell Pro Max 16 Plus and Lenovo Thinkpad P16 G3 My preferred configuration is: Core 7 265 (from what I know the 285 is only few percent faster, but much more expensive) 128GB RAM (more, if the price will be reasonable) RTX 4000 (rtx5000 is too expensive and not much faster, 16GB VRAM should be enough for most tasks) 1TB ssd (I already have several drives) Cool screen (UHD or FHD+ OLED) 5 Yr warranty and accidental damage protection. As far as I know both systems will cost almost exactly the same: 19.5k PLN (4.65k EUR) before taxes. In the notebocheck review I've seen that Dell has problems with ide power consumption (but 18" is OK, so maybe that's only some UEFI issue that will be fixed), and Thinkpad is slower, but works better on battery. The PSU for Thinkpad is 180W and Dell has 280W. I prefer smaller power envelope (easier to power the device from the car or in a plane), but I want as much computing power as possible. Thinkpad is a bit lighter too. Could you please share your thoughts?
  4. Thank you! I've also considered smaller laptops, because I'm not getting any younger. I really like the new Thinkpad P16 gen3 and I was also oggling the Framework16, because they finally have an NVIDIA option. The last one I really like is HP G1a Ultra, but I'm afraid if my software would play nice with that Radeon card. Certainly, CUDA based features wouldn't work..
  5. I own a Precision 7750 (i7-10875H, 128GB RAM, RTX4000) for almost 5 years now, but unfortunatley it starts to show it's age. The performance is not perfect, and today I;ve noticed that my RTX4000 is gone. I think about replacement for quite some time. My requirements: It's my daily driver for most of my heavy lifting in my mechanical engineering studies, and running my engineering business. Software that it will run (but not limited to): Fusion360, Siemens NX, Artec Studio, Calibry Nest, Ansys, Matlab. I easily use more than 64GB of RAM and sometimes I even need more than 128GB, so the 128GB is a bare minimum. Nvidia GPU with at the very least 8GB of VRAM is needed - 3D scanning software needs it to work. IT NEEDS TO BE ROCK SOLID. I use it LITERALLY in the field (quarries, mines, workshops). 16-18" screen. OLED would be nice, but I'm ok with a very good LCD. I don't need touch, but I'd love to have Windows Hello. 128GB RAM or more (buying the lowest possible config and replacing RAM by myself is storngly preferred) Replaceable SSD's (at the very least two bays). It would be nice if it would be made from good materials and looked nice (no RGB nonsense). It must be presentable because I visit customers. Good warranty (accidental damage protection) 36-60 months - is preferrable. PRICE. Unfortunately my budget is not made from rubber ripped from old underwear, so the cheaper- the better. I was thinking about Framework 16, Dell Pro Max PLus 16 and 18, but my desired config in 18" costs over 8k EUR.
  6. Another question: My Quadro RTX4000 is gone from my system. Pre-boot check doesn;t show it and I have a strong suspicion, that my recent power problems (my almost new battery is draind from 100% to dead in about 15 minutes) are caused by this defective GPU. Do you think replacing it will help? Is it worth 200EUR investment in 5 year old platform?
  7. Quick question: I'm currently using stock AX201 WiFi card in my 7750. Are there any upgrade options available? Would love to have Wifi 7 if at all possible.
  8. I can't see why not? My Precision 7750 came with 8GB RAM. I've first bought 4x32GB of Corsair but it didn't like them. I've returned it and went for Crucials. It runs like that without a hitch for 4 years now and I've saved over 1k EUR. From now on, all of my RAM will by Crucial. I'm building a desktop (my first for almost 10years, not counting thexones I've built for my customers) and it will have 4x64GB of Crucial Pro.
  9. On CAMM2 module pricing: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/ram/crucial-is-selling-64gb-lpcamm2-micron-memory-modules-for-dollar330 https://liliputing.com/camm2-standard-approved-for-up-to-128gb-of-speedy-removable-memory-modules/ So we have a price range. I'm certainly planning on getting the smallest possible RAM from Dell and then buying modules on my own to max it out. I did it with 7750, and it saved me over 1k EUR.
  10. My 7750 is getting really old. Still going strong though (Dell had replaced 90% of the unit at the end of the warranty period. I love it). I'd love me a 18" battlestation. And more than my current 128GB of RAM would also be lovely! CAMM2 is looking to me more like a SCAMM ME 2. But I digress. My new powerbank can output up to 250W through 2 USB-C's. Would be really nice to be able to finally drop the 600g brick of a PSU, and carry only one (I now carry 120W USB-C, 240W Alienware Gan PSU and the monster Anler A1340, and I'm not getting any younger. The price could be an issue too, because l don't have any corporate overlords to pay for mine.
