I MAY have fixed it, I did a DDU clean driver install and now its not giving me the error on the display adapter. About to reboot and see if the error comes back. well device error is gone, but now when i try to run a game or use nvidia control panel it crashes with this:

Also if anyone has 'updated' drivers for those 2 OTHER "!" devices, I'd love to know how to make those go away too: 1. Intel(r) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 2. NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework Any help on those will be appreciated as well!

Any idea why mine is higher temps? I used kryonaut extreme. And new Thermal pads on what I thought were the important components on the GPU.

Ahhh thats exactly what I needed... Ok I will try it tomorrow, but yes, I was missing that LEGACY Option Rom enabled, because I never saw that intel Rapid Storage Technlogy menu anymore after the unlocked bios install. This helps, but I will tackle it tomorrow, not in the mood for it tonight. I REALLY appreciate all the help !!

Now…. How do I get to the RAId menu?! It doesn’t show up anymore when I boot up under the unlock bios???

I will try the bios settings just as you have them emcze, and if it still doesnt work after I do that, then I am returning the GPU because its bad. Maks0098 explained it perfectly. So basically I am screwed it sounds like? I am not doing any bios change to the RTX 3000, I am simply going to return it as 'defective' because there is no reason it shouldnt be working. Does ANYONE want to show me the exact settings I should have in EACH of the Alienware m18x r2 BIOS menus so I can at least confirm I have everything setup correctly to where it SHOULD be working with the card, because I would hate for this to be a BIOS setting I havent correctly set, before I disassemble the whole thing to return the RTX 3000. Any help is much appreciated. Screenshots of your bios menus will work perfectly.

No, just got the computer working again, but just with all bios defaults reset, so system wont even boot yet, until I reconfigure the RAID, so it can read the hard drives (lordy I dont even know if I recall how i had it configured). All that 'worked' is that it no longer beeps and it boots to bios using what I assume is the INTEGRATED graphics card and NOT the RTX 300 for me to do edits to bios. It keeps saying it cant find the hard drives, but again that's because I have mine setup in a RAID that I now have to reconfigure.

Phew, that worked! Pulling the cmos battery, getting 5 beeps, plugging cmos battery back in got the system to go into BIOS again... phew! Thanks... unforunately I cant remember any of my settings, and I have to get RAID set back up so the system will actually boot ... oh the fun. Well after those changes, I now get 6 beeps... ugh... 😕 it was working fine on the Integrated Graphics card. How do I reset the bios again, so it wont beep, and it goes back to the integrated graphics?

I went ahead and rolled the dice, and put it all back together, it comes up using intel integrated graphics card, so that part is all good. NOW the big question, how do I get the RTX 3000 to take over? What are the steps including BIOS options changes and driver install steps?

Mine came, I did the Bios unlock upgrade, so now can someone CONFIRM what the settings are that the BIOS needs to be in, before I pull out the 680m (which I already had to reinstall because I didnt have the unlock bios installed yet), so that I dont have to pull the RTX 3000 out just to put the 680m in again to put the right bios setting in. I want to avoid the 8 beeps thing, so what should the BIOS settings be in the UNLOCKED bios setup options???? Thanks!

Side question, I know this is that video casting card, which probably is worthless now BUT is there anything else I can use in this port?

They promised me DHC express shipping if I bought theirs and not @ssj92's because that's what I was originally going to do, and I told them that his would get to me faster lol. But is it confirmed that with the most current/recent oem alienware bios, I will NOT be able to boot with the RTX 3000?

Shoot, I just thought of something. I dont have the 'unlock' bios installed yet. Did I just shoot myself in the foot pulling out the 680SLI setup since my RTX 3000 is coming in. While I wait, do I need to put the whole computer back together (I hope not, this doesnt sound fun) just to install the unlock bios so the RTX 3000 will work? Or will it be fine, and go natively to the integrated graphics card? Or will I get the dreaded BEEPs?

Yeah buy gpu2 will have NO temp, so you think BOTH fans will kick on if Primary GPU shows a rise in temperature? Not just the ONE FAN that controls that Primary GPU ? I'm trying to get the velociraptor, @ssj92 is working on it for me, so I can put it in spot 2, just didnt know if anything would even kick on fan 2 since no GPU in there, and therefore no GPU temp #2 sensor. I'll leave it all in. Would be nice if I could manually/automatically cause fan 2 to turn on when gpu fan 1 turns on.

Curious, when I take out my second 680m (SLI), do I leave the fan in, and just remove the card the and SLI cable. Is there anything thats going to actually cause that 2nd GPU fan to kick on?

I'm getting this GPU for my alienware m18x r2: https://www.ebay.com/itm/166542231401 And I want to make sure I put the right size (thickness) thermal pads on it, using the factory 3 pipe 100W Alienware gpu cooler (mine came with the 680m SLI setup) Any guidance on what thickness pads I should use (seems to use 2 differen thicknesses on the 680m). I assume it makes sense to buy new ones and not reuse the 680m ones. Please let me know!

REALLY looking forward to this! I gave my son my m18x R2 about 2 years ago, and now I have it all apart for upgrades, ALTHOUGH I already had upgraded to the 3940 about 6-7 years ago. But now I have 1800mhz ram coming, newest wifi card w/Bluetooth 5, an RTX 3000 (replace his 680m sli setup) and hopefully the mxm to nvme adapter soon. So to now have a good basis for his overclocks on the 3940xm will be fantastic to finish the project!! (All so he can play fortnight lol).

My kid convinced me he needed my M18x R2, which forced my hand of course, to buy (at the time) one of the newest/best Alienware's available at the time x17R1 (they didnt have an 18 back then), with i9-11980hk, Windows 11 Home, 3080 RTX, 512 m.2 nvme (but upgraded to Raid 1 (4GBx2)), 32GB ddr4 xmp 3466mhz. BUT and I hate to admit this, when my kid plays his Fortnite on his M18x R2, its grainy and slow, and even my machine above (which is why I shared the details) doesnt 'scream' but absolutely blows my kids away. So he knows the difference and has asked if I can do anything to help upgrade his m18x r2 (he has 680m sli, and the 3940 extreme (I upgraded years ago), and 32GB 1600mhz (oem). IT comes with a 330w power supply oem. I am thinking of either getting a P5000 (for about $375 delivered), or a p4000 (for about $135) or 1070 (for about $200). What's the consensus now whats the best bang for the buck, with some consideration given that spending a little more now, keeps it going for another year or two longer (performance wise), over a more cost effective solution. Should I upgrade the speed of his ram, or no?
