Hi Everyone. This post is about the heat issues I have had with my M17x R4 and looking for any suggestions.
I have a 3940xm. It has always run hot. In my attempts to keep it cool I have replaced the stock heatsink with a full copper 3 heat pipe replacement. I tested temps with both Arctic MX5 and Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme and stuck with the MX5 based on temps from Time Spy benchmarks. I have the laptop sitting ontop of a Coolmaster U3 Plus at Max speed with the fans aligned under the vents and the middle fan in the middle, roughly where the cpu and gpu would be located. Finally I have undervolted my GTX1070 to reduce thermal conduction and in the process gained a bit of performance. After all of this, I have gone from a Adverage CPU temp on Time Spy of roughly 98"C (From memory. Did not record prior) to now having an Adverage CPU temp of 82"C.
Is this the best that I can hope for, before going to liquid metal? (I have no intentions of using liquid metal). Is there a way I can undervolt my CPU? I cannot find a way to reduce the core voltage in the bios or any tools such as XTU or Throttlestop. I guess it's not supported on these 3rd gen Intel's?
Thanks
