Hertzian56
I thought it might be good to have a free software thread so we can post what we've used and get reliable safe links and comments here. Windows, Linux, Android, etc all welcome. My first contribution here are a couple of free ebook converters I've used myself and both work great. Calibre https://calibre-ebook.com/ Terrible UI imo but does batch conversions free. Any ebook converter https://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/E-Book/Any-eBook-Converter.shtml This has a much better UI than Calibre does, but the free version only converts one at a time, not bulk conversions. I've also used Hamster in the past but it seemed to require some particular add on from windows update that prevented me from using it, maybe you'd have more luck. https://hamster-free-ebook-converter.en.uptodown.com/windows/download Needs dotnet framework 3.5 service pack 1 to work, 232mb dl. Fair credit goes to this link for the first two: https://listoffreeware.com/free-azw3-converter-software-windows/ https://listoffreeware.com/ Also for windows control and other useful stuff there's Sordum. https://www.sordum.org/
serpro69
You could also check https://alternativeto.net/, which in my past experience (though it was awhile since I've used it) helped me find some good software alternatives. It also contains proprietary and paid software links, but you can filter that out if you wish. 2 GitHub Currently and formerly owned laptops (specs below): Serenity -> Dell Precision 5560 N-1 -> Dell Precision 5560 (my lady's) Razor Crest -> Lenovo ThinkPad P16 (work) Millenium Falcon -> Dell Precision 5530 (work) Axiom -> Lenovo ThinkPad P52 (work) Moldy Crow -> Dell XPS 15 9550 Spoiler Senenity / N-1: Dell Precision 5560 i7-11800H CPU 1x32 GB DDR4 2,666 MHz 512 GB SSD NVIDIA T1200 FHD+ 1920x1200 PopOS 22.
Hertzian56
Yeah but it's always nice to get info by people who have used specific programs that are free and links they used etc. I was a bit concerned about keylogging at some point and looked up a couple of free input randomizers. GhostPress is one I used, but it leads to input lag and all normal keylogging is is id-ing the user with input frequency patterns by big brother and also marketing etc Your bank/cc to use their site requires login which is encrypted so I think has something nullifying keylogging my guess only though. https://schiffer.tech/ghostpress.html Kldetector is another free one. http://dewasoft.com/privacy/kldetector.htm I'm no expert on this just used them here and there, not really any way to know if they prevented bad things or not, all I can say is that I've never had any stolen or compromised online accounts that I know of.

That was more of a "general suggestion" for anyone looking for software alternatives. 1 GitHub Currently and formerly owned laptops (specs below): Serenity -> Dell Precision 5560 N-1 -> Dell Precision 5560 (my lady's) Razor Crest -> Lenovo ThinkPad P16 (work) Millenium Falcon -> Dell Precision 5530 (work) Axiom -> Lenovo ThinkPad P52 (work) Moldy Crow -> Dell XPS 15 9550 Spoiler Senenity / N-1: Dell Precision 5560 i7-11800H CPU 1x32 GB DDR4 2,666 MHz 512 GB SSD NVIDIA T1200 FHD+ 1920x1200 PopOS 22.
Hertzian56
http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/ Spacesniffer is a nice graphical way to see the relative sizes of what's on your disk, usually only takes a few seconds to build the image too, since folder sizes aren't given in the "details" mode it's useful for a folder of folders. Used it for years works fine since w7 up to w10 not sure about 11 but probably works fine there too.
Hertzian56
Got this drivers page from a toms hardware link, by toms hardware staff so it seems like it's trustworthy. https://www.station-drivers.com/index.php?lang=en
Ishayin
Great idea! The only thing is I could very easily post hundreds of different software recommendations under this topic. Maybe it would help to have different threads for different categories of software??
