TheQuentincc Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Hi, I recently got my hand on an XPS 9500 with a broken windows installation for cheap. I'm looking into a screen upgrade because I can't stand FHD anymore (and there is keyboard marks on the display...), the original display is a Sharp 15.6" 1920x1200, it seems like the XPS 9500 was also shipped with an LG with similar specs. By looking at the LG specs it does use a 40pins eDP connector but only on 2 lanes when higher resolution needs 4 lanes. So that's why I wonder if the original cable in the XPS 9500 can be 2 lanes only (for cost reduction purposes) or if all XPS are fitted with a 4 lanes cables ? Also does someone ever tried an OLED display in the XPS 9500 ? I know the 9510 got it but I heard that OLED display needs to be specially supported by the laptop for the brightness to works properly. Finally I wanna know what do OLED users thinks about their laptop display ? I heard windows cleartext or whatever isn't supported... but also that OLED display have a very short lifespan so I'm still hesitant about which display technology I'm gonna buy 😕 Thanks all 🙂 Desktop / I7 14700KF @5.6/4.5GHz 1.20v / MSI Z690 Edge Wifi / 32GB DDR4 B-die @4000c16 / RTX 3080 Ti MSI Trio deshroud with 2x120mm / Triple 27" 4k120 + 2*4k60 XPS 9500 / I7 10750H @3.2GHz all-core / 32GB DDR4 2400MHz / GTX 1650Ti 4GB @50W / 15.6" UHD / NVME / 86Wh Dell Latitude C810 / Dell Precision M50 / Dell Precision M60 / Dell Precision M90 / Dell Precision M6400... and trying to get the other older flagship for cheap My "most modded" laptop was running an I7 3920XM @4.2GHz all-core (nvram edit) in a Dell Precision M6700 with 32GB 2133MHz DDR3L, a Quadro P4000 (before the OC vbios) and a 4k eDP display (using M6700 3D cable).
