kojack
Well well well. It seems as if we are going to find out if my iPad can be used as a daily driver notebook. My dell laptop crapped the bed yesterday morning. That’s 3 in the past month. Note to everyone, DON’T BUY DELL. My main laptop died, my linux system died and my wife’s dell laptop died. Just waiting for my desktop to croak now. Thank dog I never bought a g series for my son. My new system will be arm based for sure. Not sure if I am going to the dark side with a new MacBook Air or a surface laptop. I will have to wait until the new year either way so The iPad 10th gen will be getting a work out. I will be replacing my current Logitech keyboard with the new zagg version for better keyboard work. 1 1 Workstation - Dell XPS 8940 - desktop creative powerhouse Mobile Workstation - Dell inspiron 5406 2 in 1 - mobile creative beast Wifey's Notebook - Dell inspiron 3169 - Little gem for our businesses

Not sure of those new Snapdragon Windows machines (ew no.) 1 Legion 5i Gen 10 - Core 7 Ultra 255HX, 32GB DDR5, RTX 5060 8GB, OLED 165Hz, 500GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro Not in use: HP Elitebook 8470P, ThinkPad X131e, ThinkPad T61, Dell Precision M4800 (dead), HP Zbook 15 G2, Dell Precision 7540 (Delta fans equipped)

There are a few things I cannot do or, don’t know how to do. But they are minor in nature. I am going to download lumafusion for video editing to see how it goes. I just saw it on the App Store. 1 Legion 5i Gen 10 - Core 7 Ultra 255HX, 32GB DDR5, RTX 5060 8GB, OLED 165Hz, 500GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro Not in use: HP Elitebook 8470P, ThinkPad X131e, ThinkPad T61, Dell Precision M4800 (dead), HP Zbook 15 G2, Dell Precision 7540 (Delta fans equipped)
kojack
I got my laptop back up and running. I did a "repair" on the system when it came up on the screen. Most time it's just a black screen but this time it booted to support assist repair. Dunno. Got me baffled. Seems software related as once it's up and running it works fine. kojack
Got my linux dell back running as well. i think it's a sleep function issue. Either way, I am so happy not to be typing on the logitech iPad keyboard. That's the worst. No way I could do that full time. My Linux box is an 11 inch dell 2 in 1 and the keyboard is way roomier than the keyboard for the iPad. I am happy for now that I have something other than the ipad. I could not see me using that full time for anything other than reading magazines. I will be moving it to my son and selling his 9th gen to fund an acer iconia X12 tablet bundle. I am an android user so might as well steer into that skid. Bullit
I don't write more than an A4 page - most of the time i basically fill forms, spreadsheets, make notes - so for me button keyboards which btw i don't like don't bother me.

Bullit
I never found a keyboard that i liked. I actually never liked keyboards. I had more feel with traditional typewriters, there was softness, deceleration in the button - but still not my thing. Probably if writing was my profession if i would buy traditional typewriter and just OCR the thing, now that is much more reliable.

kojack
1 hour ago, Bullit said: Any update on your choices? Because of software constraints (needing windows to run certain software I need for work) I have to stick with windows, and therefore I will be replacing my dell notebook with something new. What that is I don't know. I have to look at efficiency of a portable eGPU unit plugged into the laptop for video/photo editing work. I have been looking at a new one with a 7600XT in it. If, when it is plugged into the TB4 port of a laptop it gives the power of a 2070 super to a 2080 super, I will just get a new laptop, plug that in and be done. I could not do the iPad. The software was not able to work on it. kojack
Well, well, well. A new software package for the programs I need for work are now available on iPadOS. Hmmmmmm. That’s interesting for sure. I may try doing all my work on the iPad first and see how the work flow is. I would like to get a Pro so I can use an ultrawide monitor for when I am at my desk however. I will keep my windows desktop for when I need to use my flatbed scanner and large format photography printer. Let’s see how this works! I guess to replace my dying pc I will get an iPad Pro and all the fixin’s. If not I am going to a MacBook Air as I cannot find a windows pc that appeals to me.
