kela-slk
Hi. i want try to install RTX2070 (2060) or similar clevo card with extra power jack. on this forum man trying to install in clevo p170EM\SM and Clevo p870dm upgrade. but information about this upgrade is very small and unorganized. i want try to inslall in some laptops like Alienware m17x r4 (ivy bridge), hasswell not support high power consumption video csrds, more than 65-70W tdp MSI GT72\S\VR skylake gen Dell Precision 7710\7720 clevo old gen like p770DM without extra power cord. Can someone upload in this thread photos and information about hardware modding MXM slot and EXTRA power specs and where on motherboadr can take this additional voltage. what pin on MXM need soldering (number and designation on shematic diagram) thanks for help. After collecting all the necessary information, I will post the results and upgrade options for other laptops. The situation is such that finding a powerful regular MXM card of the RTX 2070\2080 level is almost impossible and difficult (only limited maximum best choise HP RTX 5000 quadro but it costs more than even the RTX3080 clevo). on ebay many cheaper clevo cards like gtx1070\2070\3060 and it will be interesting swap in 12 year old laptop new video card )))

runix18
Refer to this video for instalation in the original DM. As for the power connector pinout on the GPU there are 8 pins (4 are ground and 4 are +). You can check with a multimeter wich is wich. I need to determine on the diagram what exactly starts the video card. according to the diagram, additional power is 7-20 volts 10 amperes. I need to find where to get such power. I compared the diagram of the alienware m17x r4 and clevo x170sm and found the reserved pins involved. Edited August 12 by kela-slk

And from that point you solder 2 wires to the mentioned pins. runix18
For the GPU Extra power conector, you have the two 4 pin conectors (you can see both of them in the first picture), wich has two + and two - pins. They suply the exact voltage needed, exactly 19.5v. You just need to do a cable mod like in the image. On other laptops you can get 3.3v from the MXM slot itself or from any SATA port. The main 19.5V you can get from the source of the input circuit mosfet, like in the picture.
