m17x r3 660m won't install drivers

Recommended Posts

Hello I have a m17xr3 that I bought as is a while ago and now just getting to messing with it. When searching the service tag the original configuration is GTX 580m and 120 HZ 3D display. The GPU appears to be a 660m that is installed. I installed Windows 7 but no drivers will install (assuming that's why the person sold me it so cheap AS-IS). I'm assuming I need modified drivers? Can someone please modify me some drivers using older 2011 or 2012 drivers ? 306.79 I think is 2012. The reason I want older is because whatever Nvidia is doing in their new drivers causes me eye strain.

I do also have access to a 880m that was included on the side when I bought this laptop but I think it's dead as it beeps 6 times even with the a12 unlocked BIOS flashed currently. I just want either card to work, not really picky which to use haha. I think 660m would be easiest to get going

You got a rare one with that 120hz panel as that is typically edp if my recollection is correct so it could potentially use a more modern card but anyway have you considered Win10 as I've experienced much better driver compatibility across multiple generations of Alienware laptops when it comes to mxm upgrades.

Edit: Almost forgot nvclearinstall does a pretty good job at getting ngreedia drivers to install unsupported configurations.
