mtvgt
Hello, does anyone have a real life benchmark results, real life comparison between these 2 cpu models? I treat 2920/2960 and 3920/3940 as one and the same because they are almost the same cpu. I wonder what improvement can be seen switching from 2gen to 3gen cpu in terms of temp and performance when overclocked. I wonder if 3gen will run cooler than 2gen? I watched tests/comparisons of these 2 generations in regular pc and results were surpising - 3gen was hotter than 2gen, how is that possible? mtvgt
Here 2920xm in m18x R2, didn't play with voltage yet.
ssj92
2920XM/2960XM/3920XM/3940XM are all going to be very close in performance. What will affect you more is the silicon lottery. 2920/2960XM require higher clocks to match 3920XM/3960XM due to IPC increase. I think it was like 4.3Ghz 2920XM = 4.1GHz 3920XM or maybe even less. I have both 2960XM and 3920XM...when I am done putting them back together (probably weeks from now) I will run fresh benchmarks. mtvgt
Thanks Ssj, i looked over various different forums and there are proofs from different people that it's basically as You said. About 200mhz difference between 2 and 3 gen. Now i only wonder, how big will be temperature difference between 2gen and 3gen. 32mm vs 22mm but i read somewhere that 2gen had lower temp during various stress tests. nforce4max
Performance per clock is almost exactly the same while the real difference is that the 3RD gen runs cooler and clocks higher beyond that the only other difference is the IGP.
