Amazing DTR Dell XPS M2010 Owners

On all Notebooktalk forum no memory about this amazing "laptop", its hard to say the laptop, because it has 20.1" LCD, 8.6Kg weight, removable stand- alone Mechanical!!! keyboard, pullout DVD RW and adjustable hingles! Also this is maybe first laptop 2006 manufacturing year with IPS CCFL LCD 1680*1050 resolution.

Im old owner Dell XPS 2010. from 2014 year i have this notebook. 

i try upgrade this beautiful DTR (desktop replacement). Install T7600G extreme edition cpu and overclocked it. Stable working is 2.86ghz with 1,25v, but cannot get it to work on 3.0 or 3.16 ghz with any voltage - just freezing. I know , on Dell XPS m1710, which this cpu putting out , in bios settings this Cpu can be overclocked to 3.16 Ghz. also i install 2x120Gb SSDs in RAID 0, in CrystalDiskMark i have 230Mb/s. And i have project to install enother GPU in this laptop like geforce 7900m GTX, quadro FX3500m. problem in not supported LCD. Ati x1800 has 8bit lvds 2 channel, Fx3500m has 6 bit lvds. bit card is working via DVI output. I transfer DVI signal to LCD with Aliexpress universal LCD scaler and it working! Its shame that it cant be installed more than 4 gb ram and ICH7 not supported more than 3,45gb memory.

Who still has this laptop and use ?

That’s a great machine you got there. It was one of my dream machines. I have a few of its “cousin” - HP Pavilion HDX9000. 
 

For overclocking have you tried ThrottleStop? Version 6.00 should work.

This laptop was in use, i sold him. Nice laptop but not such an unusual case and design as m2010. But upgrade options is more more than 2010. 

My sold laptop configuration was - X9100 extreme edition (3,8ghz 2 cores) , 8gb ram ddr2 800, 8800m gtx ( know can be upgraded to FX3600m, Gtx260m with some mod) , ssd 500gb, and rare lcd 1900*1200  ( usually 1680*1050)

Amazing fast laptop versus M2010. 

 

M2010 has more free space inside for upgrade and design its awesome! I want try to insert another motherboard more modern, but cannot connect LCD, because stock m2020/hdx9000 dragon has 8bit 2 channel Lvds input, all motherboard that can fit inside m2010 has or EDP MB output or LVDS 6bit 2 channel. And original lcd cannot work. 

I also had 20" cousin - Acer 9920G its 20,1" too big laptop, with 8600m GT video card and TV tuner. But design didn't like it. I sold too. Hp dragon much better. 

 

I know people, who is developing new upgrading video card to HDX9000 dragon - Nvidia quadro 5000m 2 gb , much powerful than 8800m gs. This card is removable discreet and has 8 bit w channels for original LCD.

Yeah, it is half way between DELL M2010 and Acer 9920 and I think a better laptop than both.

You got a nice config! What made you sell it? On another note I think that you can upgrade the M2010 with this display, BUT they are unobtainable!

Have you considered the MSI GT80? I’m not sure about the display connection though.

Your right, cannot be find on sale. 

Fit in Dell its possible but hard, because dell has IPS panel, HP has TN, and different lcd connectors, need create adapter with both pinouts.

I’m pretty sure that both use the same display connector. Why? Because both were fitted in the Dragon. Just to be sure you can compare the schematics:

   N201J4-L01 - WUXGA 

   LP201WE1-TLA1 - WSXGA+

this is for HDX Dragon its TN LCD, xps m2010 has IPS LP201WE1-SL01, its different lcd
