m17xr2 M17x R2 - 8970m shenanigans

Hey everyone, after 15 years I was finally able to get my hands on a M17x R2 which I am planning to use for CRT Emudriver. The original specs are i7-940xm, Dual 5870m, 8GB ram, with the 240W adapter. The laptop is somehow in like-new condition inside and outside.

 

I purchased a green 8970m 4GB (MSI?) and was able to install it successfully, got no issues with POST and can install all the drivers needed just fine, however, the laptop turns itself off after doing anything GPU related (Temps too high). I managed to figure out the main issue which looks to be the X-Bracket from the 8970m doesnt make good contact with the heatsink because it has taller screw's mounts compared to the 5870m. I didnt reuse the 5870m's x-bracket since it look like it doesnt fit properly on the 8970m, however, I am reusing the 5870m heatsink with no changes other than newer thermal pads and paste. Does anyone know the best way to make the contact between the die and heatsink better?

 

Finally, I have some issues with getting the fans to run using HWInfo. I set a custom profile and/or manually set them to max, it works for a few seconds but then the fans return to idle. Is there a specific version (portable vs exe) or settings that I need to set in HwInfo for it to work properly or maybe is something specific to Greens 8970m? Should I flash it using @Raidriar vbios?
