Clevo P775TM1-G - Not working on boot (no monitor then shut off)

Hi,

I'm having some trouble with my P775TM1-G. It was doing fine and then just stopped working the other day.

The symptoms are as follows:-

I turn it on....then,

  • Black screen, no back illumination, no BTO splash screen.
  • Keyboard does it's little light dance for 20seconds or so.
  • Keyboard goes black.
  • Fans do a little self test and just stay on low, maybe 5 or 10%
  • Then the fans spin up to 100%
  • It stays in this state for about a 1 min.
  • Then the machine turns off.
  • There is no caps lock light etc

I've seen this post...

...which initially filled me with confidence, however, the key difference is that in the post above the machine didn't shut off.

I've done the following to try and fault find:-

  1. No Battery with good 330w power, same result .
  2. Power drain (no battery, hold down on button for 1min), inc. removing CMOS cell, same result
  3. Spamming F2 has no effect, same result
  4. Removed all RAM (all 4 sticks) and SSD, same result
  5. Reseated CPU, same result
  6. Reseated GPU, same result
  7. Fn+D on start up, same result

Literally the symptoms regardless. I thought it was the GPU at first but since going though the fault finding list, I'm honestly stuck.

Any help or ideas would be welcome.

Thank you 🙂

I had similar problem couple years ago in my case it was CPU problem. They changed it for new one and everything work 5 years without any problem. I remember the last thing I saw was the desktop screen and computer not responding, just freezed and after reebot i had same symptoms like you.

I think your gpu is dead unfortunately 🥺

I thought so too initially but having removed it and other components one by one, and from what reading I've done the behaviour should have changed...but it hasn't. I'm thinking its the board now.

Yeah so thats more or less identical to mine.

Hmmm.... this is frustrating because before seeing your post I was thinking I might need to reflash the bios... but now I'm not so sure.

I've just bought a programmer that arrives in the next couple of hours.

I might try it anyway and if that fails, take it to the shop to diagnose since I have no way of testing the board, gpu or cpu.

It's 99% problem of CPU or GPU. My reseller told me in most cases is CPU.

Interesting, ok well the programmer has arrived now. I might try and flash it with the clevo bios and see. Nothing to loose really.

If I don't get any success then I'll go the shop. I'll be happy if it is the cpu and not the board or gpu which from my searching the Internet so far are nearly impossible to find.
