M17x R4 VGA heatsink replacement

Hello,

 

I have a M17x R4 and two VGA cards: a GTX 980M  and a GTX 680M (spare).

 

I have the opportunity to get a cheap M17x R5 VGA heatsink (PN 0YP26V).

 

Will it fit in a M17x R4 motherboard? Will it be any improvement in terms of heat dissipation regarding the original heatsink (PN 0MT1DN)?

Out of interest, where did you get your 980m? I've been trying to purchase one for the M17xR4 but the last 3 from China, as well as a local 880m in the UK, have all arrived faulty.

I have a working 980m pulled from a Clevo P870DM, as a matter of fact, I'm using it right now.

Would you be interested at all?

Yes, it should fit with the M17x R4 motherboard, @Maxware79should be able to ensure if it fits, he knows a lot.

There won't be much difference since they have a very similar mass and both have 3 heatpipes. There is a 5 pipe custom one on Ebay that I used in my Ranger and it kept my power hungry 1070 at under 65C all the time, I'd recommend that if you want to do a bit of overclocking or want to keep your GPU cool.

The heatsinks are very close but not quite the same. One is slightly longer than the other. I have heard someone putting a 17 R1 heatsink into an M17x R4 so maybe it works that way but not the other. I can do a comparison photo when I get a chance to show the slight difference.

I have been looking at 6 pipe heatsink and wondering if they really make a difference in dissipating the heat. If they make a difference the price would be worth it.?!
