  1. Yes, I was impressed by the amount of expansion slots on the MB and rigidity of the chassis. I'm experimenting with custom fan driver built using Arduino Nano SuperMini stuffed into unused CD drive bay, but as good I am at electronics, I am bad at programming, so with current algorythm fans are very jerky when switching from fast changing MB signal to slow creeping input from thermistors I've glued near the VRM's (whichever is higher sets PWM duty for the fans), but I believe that after some more iterations it will be usable and maybe I will also use it my P870DM (stuffed with RTX5000 stolen from this HP, with incompatible temperature reporting 😆). Thanks for the advices, I'll check how much more watts I can squeeze. As for the uneven core heating, I tried bending cooling and added second springs to screws around CPU which mitigated this problem a little. I wonder if more powerful fans EG85100S1-C100-S9A from Fury 16 G10 i9+RTX5000 would fit, but they're way to pricey for now to play around.
  2. i7-9850H. But I think that I resolved the case - it does this without battery. I have it partly disassembled because it waits for GPU so I didn't put battery in it. With battery clocks spikes to 4.6 GHz at about 100 W (and then thermal throttes by 20% according to HWInfo) then drops to 55 W at 3.6 GHz and 85 °C. But I'm dissapointed in cooling solution and fan curve, they would be good for multimedia use, not for workstation.
  3. I recently bought second-hand Zbook 17 G6 and it has strange problem - maximum power CPU can draw steadily is 30 watts, despite HWInfo stating it's 55/110 watts. Rarely I see spikes to 47 watts. Laptop has no dedicated GPU at the moment and power brick is 230 watts. CPU temperature at full load is around 75 °C. Full load frequency settles at 2.8 GHz which is very dissapointing.
  4. I had a similar problem with temperature sensor with HP Quadro P5200 in my P870DM. I resolved it by isolating SMBUS pins on the card and wire a small PCB with external, compatible sensor IC to the mainboard.
  5. OK, problem solved - I had to isolate smbus on GPU side and solder to its data lines temperature sensor IC compatible with NVIDIA's MXM 3.1 specification.
  6. Hi, I've just recently bought Quadro P5200 rev. D from HP with vBIOS chip on it. I want to place it in my P870DM with Dsanke BIOS, but laptop, even if it boots normally with screen on, soon sets fans to 100% and shuts down after one minute. I tried a couple of different vBIOSes, including MSI and DELL but the effect is still the same. What's intersting, on HP and MSI vBIOSes the HWInfo shows temperature of the card (but clearly not to the EC...). I saw that Prema was able to get this pair to work, but does anyone knows how? Well, if it would be easier I would like to just disable temperature reading for GPUs since I use my own fan controller with analogue temperature sensor (hooked up directly to the VRM).
  7. Well, as far as it won't need a lot of work with terminal I can try it. I'm a refugee from NBR but thanks 🙂 @Csupati There is no BIOS that supports newer cards, I checked this first... @jaybee83 P180HM is the prettiest laptop I've ever seen, so I had to have it 😉 Well, another update - with HD8970M it doesn't even light up the screen and after one minute it shuts off, so no commmunication to KBC. It's sad, because W7170M's are very cheap...
  8. Hi all. I recently bought Clevo P180HM w. GTX680M. I have heard that this is already the best GPU that will work in this laptop, but since I have a bunch of MXM cards lying around I decided to give them a try. First, Dell Quadro M3000M I use in M980NU - hang at the boot screen with beeps from time to time. Then MSI GTX970M - after boot screen it stops at black screen with blinking cursor. I have still Dell 765M after failed mod (I don't remember what I've done to it, but it shows as 780M in GPU-Z) and Dell HD8970M to try. I have also tried different thing - 680M in master slot and the other card in slave slot. Windows 7 displays GPU renderer error but suprisingly such a configuration works under W10. With basic MS driver for 680M and Nvidia driver for the second card I was able to use the latter as the 3D renderer. Both 765M and 970M works in this configuration (M3000M does not - hang), althrough performance is very disappointing - GPU utilization reaches about 70%, but FPS in games is around 15% of what it should be. Is there anything else I could try? Maybe Pascal? There are P106M and Quadro P1000M that I can buy and I also spotted Radeon RX580M or something along those lines on Aliexpress, but I don't want to waste money if they are not going to work.
