  1. Thanks to your instruction, with those infomations I visited a local youtuber who took off my bios chip and wrote the original bios using a programer, he did it for free. After he soldered it back that my computer was resurrected and only cost me tens of usd as a way to get there.😋 Before that all the computer repairers I found told me the motherboard was completely damaged and needed at least 350 usd to replace it. 🤔 The reason I'm considering to upgrade to the 10900KF is that the X170SMG can't enable its integrated graphics due to missing its power providing , and it seems to be a very good match for the F version CPUs. And the 10900KF is only $40 more expensive than the 10700K on the used market here, and if you can live with a 10900KF with a corner missing (or at least the seller claims that it doesn't affect it's functionality at all), it's even only $200. In any case, the 10900F/KF is the best CPU that can be installed on the X170SMG. But unlike the CPU cheap upgrade option, even if selling the old 2080SMXM, upgrading to the 3080MXM will still cost me at least 300USD more here. Considering what you've said, I wouldn't think about this option anymore. One last bad news, the ZRT series graphics card size is not compatible with our laptops, as you can see one of the corners of our graphics card has missing, and their cards are all full rectangles. Not only that, Their graphics cards also lack support for edp, not to mention we need a stronger cpu and power supply to support it. But even if it's no longer possible to make further performance improvements, I'm still impressed with the design of this laptop.✌️
  2. Besides that, I also have some questions。 Since there aren’t many users of this laptop around here, I haven't been able to find answers。 Is the highest supported CPU for the X170SMG the 10900K? Would it be worth upgrading from the 10700K? Is the highest supported GPU the 3080? I was told that most second-hand MXM 3080s available now are leftovers from mining and are of poor quality. Has anyone tried upgrading to a ZRT 40-series MXM GPU? ZRT MXM GPUs If I want to overclock the 2080 Super, can air cooling maintain safe temperatures? Spending $100 to upgrade to liquid cooling seems a bit expensive.
  3. Oh my god, I can't believe there are so many users with this laptop。 I bought my X170SMG with 10700K and 2080 Super five years ago from a local Clevo factory。 It worked well until recently when I got a new monitor that supports 4K 240Hz。 However, I found that my laptop could only output 4K at 180Hz, and I realized my Mini DP was running on DP1.2。 So I asked about it on the Chinese version of Reddit and was told that I needed a better DP cable that support DP1.4。 They recommended Kaiboer to me, a brand known for selling silver-plated cables with good performance。 And then came the stupidest part of the story… I visited their store and found that all Mini DP cables were sold out, so I bought a Type-C to DP cable instead since the X170SMG did have a Type-C DP port。 But when I installed it, there was no output—my PC couldn’t detect the monitor at all。 I guessed maybe I needed to enable the Type-C DP function in the BIOS, so I went in and found an option called integrated Graphics , and I thought oh that's it and enabled it. And then… my laptop bricked. It wouldn’t boot, nothing showed on the monitor, and the keyboard turned blue after a while。 which is exactly the same to what happened to @MaxxD。 I tried discharging the motherboard and pressing the FN+D key combo during boot, but nothing worked。 I asked for help on the Chinese Reddit, but it seems like the only solution is to reprogram the BIOS flash chip。 However, when I connected it to another PC via a CH341 programmer, the software couldn't detect the BIOS chip at all, not to mention rewrite it。 Could you please tell me how did you fix your laptop? @MaxxD I’ve bought a new programmer and a new BIOS chip, and after I get them I'm giving it one last try. In the worst situation, I might have to replace the BIOS chip or even the entire motherboard.
