Your display is plugged into the LVDS connector, and the eDP connector is sitting there unoccupied.

So, it seems like, at the very least, the pinout for the DGFF connectors has changed between Precision 7X50 and 7X60 (with regard to power delivery at least), answering the question posed by @sliderfra and others. Not exactly surprised that Dell would use the same connector with a different pinout between successive generations. I tried to use a Precision M6800 fan in a Precision M6700 once — it physically fit, but they had changed the pinout for the fan connector on the motherboard (using the same physical plug) so the fan would not operate.

The RGBLED panel needs many parts to install. The panel itself The display enclosure (it is slightly thicker to hold the RGBLED panel) Interposer board which goes between the motherboard and the panel Two cables — eDP to interposer, interposer to panel ...Maybe also a metal side-rail thing that is needed to "mount" the panel into the display enclosure Also note, if you install the RGBLED panel then you will not be able to use Optimus. That only works with LVDS panels in this system.

When I did K5000M → M5000M, I just reused all of the pads and it was fine. IIRC, M5000M has one additional VRM at the top that isn't present on the Kepler GPU cards, so you just need to make sure that the pad covers it.

It would only be a 2× drop in bandwidth (16 lanes -> 8 lanes PCIe3, or 8 lanes PCIe4 -> PCIe3, depending on how you want to decide the "starting point" — either way it is just a 2× drop). 2× drop in PCIe bandwidth for the GPU doesn't necessarily mean a 2× drop in performance. It would actually probably just be a minimal drop in performance. These GPUs running at power-constrained laptop speeds won't be saturating a 16-lane bus most of the time. What's unclear to me if is the Precision 7X50 will accept a GPU that doesn't have all of the DGFF connectors connected, or if there are any other unknown issues that would keep it from working. The only way to know is for someone to try it...

... Actually I've tried this, and I like the touch surface for scrolling better than a scroll wheel. Still wish it had discrete buttons though.

My understanding is that eDP only works with NVIDIA GPUs in this system. Newer AMD GPUs that don’t work with LVDS might not work at all. In any case, the chassis cannot accept a “standard” eDP panel without some light modification. (I think @TheQuentincc managed to get a 4K panel working in there at one point.)

I don't know if those are the only things. There's a separate cable that goes from the webcam to the motherboard, and there may or may not be a variant of the display enclosure itself to have a place to "mount" the webcam PCB.

Same power supplies can be used with or without the dock.

A driver mod is needed (INF file). Optimus works if you do it right. I used to do this manually, but I think nowadays NVcleanstall will do it for you.

HP Quadro RTX (Turing generation) MXM cards do not use the standard layout. To use it in the M6700 will require some modifications to the chassis and heatsink.

Weird. I would suggest to disable the opposite SSD in the BIOS while you are installing the OS so each one is fully independent. After both installs are done, you should be able to enable SSDs and just choose which to boot with the F12 boot menu.

There is no whitelist. I have used several different cards in the M6700, including Intel AX200. The BIOS will not recognize Bluetooth from the Wi-Fi card, it is expecting the Dell module. It should still show up in Device Manager and be usable from Windows, though.

This has been "wondered" but I don't know if anyone has tried it. There are some differences between the systems that apply to the GPU. 7550 GPU is PCIe3 (16 lanes), 7560 GPU is PCIe4 (8 lanes). 7560 GPUs use ones less DGFF connector than 7550 GPUs. (I think the GPU screw positions may not be identical, too.)

If Windows doesn't have a driver built-in, running Windows Update once will pull one down. If you can connect the system to the Internet via Ethernet temporarily, it should be easy to get set up with whatever Wi-Fi card that you decide to install. Note that some newer cards have different antenna connectors. You might need an adapter for those. If you want to use the Wi-Fi card's bluetooth, disconnect the M6700's original built-in Bluetooth. The module is to the right of the keyboard and you can access it just by pulling off the keyboard trim. Just unplug the module from the motherboard, you don't have to remove it.

I have no desire to pick one of these up for myself, but my nephew asked if I could try to snag one for him because he is eager to upgrade from his GeForce 2070 to 5080, but is going to be busy at work when these things launch, presumably at 9 AM on January 30. Anyone purchased a launch-day GPU before? Any experiences or tips from dealing with specific sites? I'm not going to camp at a store, so I'd just have to be refreshing a web site and trying to get one into my cart and then through the checkout as quickly as possible... and I fully understand that they may well all be bought up by eager beavers, scalpers, or bots within the first few minutes or even seconds of going on sale.

Not sure about this, but I will say that NVIDIA Inspector can make a shortcut for you which has the command-line parameters needed to set the clocks and voltage that you want, without having to actually fully open up the app. You can then just turn that into a Task Scheduler job to automatically run at startup.

Ha, on top of that, since they didn't release a new system in 2024, you have to get a 2023 system if you don't want to or can't wait the 4-6 months until a new system is ready. (Had this happen at work, they just bought "new" 2023 model systems for my team. They went for Lenovo P16 though, because Dell was quoting something like $1400 higher per system for a Precision 7680. I'm sitting this upgrade cycle out, transitioning my work system to macOS later this year.)

They don’t usually announce these at an event… They’ll probably just put out a press release when they are ready. (April?)

Compared to the above, Pro Max Plus has Ethernet port on the left side (like Precision 7X80), full size SD instead of microSD, and overall less of a "wedge"-shape design going on.

Unfortunately, the keyboard layout seems the same as prior generations — Home/End sharing with F11/F12, and no dedicated PgUp/PgDn are my main complaints. (Precision 7X30/7X40 generations didn't have either of these problems.) Also, they have removed the right Ctrl key and slapped a Copilot key there. At least, in Windows 11 settings you can choose from a few options for remapping that button.

All “Pro Max” are mobile workstations. But, this announcement was only for the base “Pro Max” (akin to Precision 3000) and not “Pro Max Plus” (Precision 7000).

Noted. Thanks. Supposed to be simple, huh? How is someone supposed to wander onto the web site and chose between "Dell Pro" and "Dell Premium"? Seems like you have to gain some understanding of what each of these words actually means. And what do they mean? "Pro" apparently means "business system". (As opposed to iPhone, which they seemingly borrowed this from, where it just means "better".) "Max" is workstation? I had originally thought "Premium" meant "slim version", but that appears to be the case for Dell Premium and not Dell Pro Premium. ...But it is with Dell Pro Max Premium. "Plus" just means "higher performance than without Plus"? And it doesn't help that they all (Pro + Plus + Premium + Max) basically mean "the better/best version of something" if you just try to read them as English. I guess I want the system with the most superlatives in the name, but it doesn't look like they are planning to offer Dell Pro Max Premium Plus.

18" is coming. We have to wait for "Pro Max Plus". It was mentioned but not detailed in Dell's announcement, they stated it is coming "later this year".
