  1. Looks like AI Act might not be as nearly as useful as we hoped it would - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/dec/02/eu-artificial-intelligence-safety-bill-silicon-valley-lobbying
  2. No kidding. I started thinking at some point - "is this going to end?", but it just keeps loading more How many videos do they have... And to add this kind of cover art for each video, that's some feat in itself.
  3. Haven't played TQ, but also heard good things about it. It looks like TQ 2 is coming soon also? So hopefully not all is lost for ARPG genre :)
  4. Tried Diablo 4 over the "free weekend". Must say I'm quite disappointed and can really see why the game has so many negative reviews. It's still kind of fun if you like the genre, but I'm just not getting the proper Diablo feeling out of it. But for the price they're asking for it, even during discounts... not worth it IMO. Also tried out Grim Dawn (quite similar game to Diablo), which immediately felt way more thought out and interesting, despite being like 6 years old now, or smth.
  5. Meanwhile, big tech groups are once-more telling EU "don't over-regulate AI": https://www.reuters.com/technology/businesses-tech-groups-warn-eu-against-over-regulating-ai-foundation-models-2023-11-23/ I especially liked the quote about copyright (non-)protection against data mining: ...because whatever's already in place obviously has so much effect 🤦

  7. Was reading some articles on theverge yesterday and saw one of their "best laptops of 2023" piece. Don't usually look at those, but for some reason I clicked on this one and it made my day with just one phrase - "It's getting harder to buy a bad laptop"
  8. Might want to consider doing something like this if you don't want to do a tower-based build.
  9. Looking forward to seeing how it's going to turn out. After the 7x70 line I've pretty much given up on Dell, so this release would probably decide it for me if I'll ever buy another one of their laptops. A company I worked for as a consultant did a refresh on their laptops recently. They were considering Dell at some point, but wen't with Lenovo in the end. And even though this is not indicative of anything, I like to think that it's not just individual consumers who are not that happy with Dell, which would hopefully force them to make better decisions.
  10. https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/20/23968988/openai-employees-resignation-letter-microsoft-sam-altman Microsoft just acquired OpenAI without going through the whole acquisition process and facing potential antitrust lawsuits all the while saving money. Well played. Yes, yes, we all know very well that they're concerned with safety first and foremost... Greed is good
  11. Former Twitch CEO and co-founder Emmett Shear as interim OpenAI CEO Another interesting news that I saw over the weekend was that Meta disbanded its Responsible AI team . Although they're claiming that these people will continue to contribute to responsible and safe AI development:
  12. Yeah, good question. They say "he's not been consistently truthful with the board", which could mean a ton of different things of course... But imagine how truthful he is with everyone else (including about dangers of AI), if he's been lying to his board I'm jumping to conclusions of course, since we don't know much about what happened, but still makes you question his integrity. Not that he had much of it to begin with (in my mind at least)
  13. I'm usually not a big fan of electronic music, with some very rare exceptions. But this popped up in my "feed" the other day and proved to be one of those exceptions.
  14. I don't think there's even one machine that would satisfy your requirements (socketed CPUs in laptops are non-existent for latest generations, at least at this point). We shall see what happens next year, but I doubt there will be any changes in this regard.
  15. I've finally managed to watch The Wire (halfway through season 4 now). Such a great show, I'm just blown away.
  16. Yeah, looking forward to that. If EU regulators are good for anything - it's punishing BigTech And these morons are asking to be punished. Thankfully, most ad-blockers still work and are regularly updated to account for whatever bs youtube is trying to pull. I'd probably stop using it if I had to suffer through the avalanche of ads... Every time I take my wife's iphone and open youtube - I can't believe how many ads there are these days, it's just insane. And the contrast to me is so apparent since on my devices I haven't seen any ads for years
  17. Yeah, agree with that. Just for that reason alone I'd probably get one of these only if I had no other choice and they were giving them away with a box of cereal or whatever My all-time favorite laptop cooler is CoolerMaster Notepal U2/3 Plus. Simple as a hammer, minimalistic, lightweight, and upgradable also thanks to the design. Have had 4 of them overall, still own two (one cools my laptop, another my lady's) and have given the other two to family members. Ever since I got the first one - couldn't find anything that I would like as much as the notepal. But I can understand where those designs are coming from. The majority of the users for these coolers are gamers (I'd assume), and most gaming laptops are no better in terms of looks than these coolers pads. I guess one could find use for all those lights once a year or something, but what the hell are you supposed to do with that Christmas tree the rest of the year has always escaped me...
  18. In the above video, IIRC the guy mentioned KeiBn coolers at the end. I've looked briefly at them, and they seem to have reasonably quiet / efficient coolers. Though I've really only checked a few customer reviews on amazon, so don't take my word on it. source Wrap me two of these coolers please.
  19. Would would anyone ever want that cooler, it's like sitting next to a jet engine all the time
  20. Full version: Yeah, pretty darn impressive.
  21. Aha, tell me about it... "We went into this with the expectations to make billions and it would be unfair if you took that away from us"
  22. https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/4/23946353/generative-ai-copyright-training-data-openai-microsoft-google-meta-stabilityai OK, not really about "AI threat" as such, but it's still very interesting, albeit unsurprising, to read the arguments from Big Tech on why they should not pay for training their AI models on copyrighted materials. If they shouldn't have to pay to train, maybe their models should also be available for free to everyone Some of the arguments are just ridiculously absurd Micro$oft: They really want me to believe they care about startups and small AI developers?
