Thanks for the offer, I know how to mod the .inf and I didn't buy that machine, Happily I bought a m17x r4 but with lcd screenand the p4000 installed easily with modded drivers and a new cpu i7-3940xm and a 2tb 860 QVO and 4x4gb 1866mhz ram and running Flawlessly Magnificent. I am now the Proud owner of 2 Alienware's an m18xr2 and an m17xr4. The 18 I had since 10/12/2012 and it is going strong, and there is still Future Hope for them. Now I see 120hz screens on the horizon!!!

Since all these Great suggestions I have also done I need to add 1 more, Don't be afraid to pull it apart after you did the spread and see how it covered the die and if it looks good do it again exactly the same way, I discovered this from my own mistakes

I like NBR 3.1B, it keeps the ring of Notebookreview without specifying what type of PC and holds on to the MXM GPU this community made famous, plus google still shows Notebookreview results in searches

I'm starting a new topic because. I saw an Alienware 17 R1 P18e 17.3" Laptop i7-4910MQ 2.90GHz 16GB RAM for $275.49 it looks to have a bad gpu or 2 different gpus and they dont know how to mod .infs. I was wondering if a quadro p4000 will work in it cause of the screen being LCD,17.3FHD,WLED,LVDS,AG,Z,LGD - INFO,SWSI,LCD,17.3,NON-TCH and my m18xr2 has LCD,18.4FHD,WLED,TLF,SMSNG. The LVDS is not supported by p4000 so I just want to pick some brains to help straighten me out. The m18xr2 has the p4000 working very well and was so happy with it I bought another but have no where to put it, so I want to buy a laptop to put it in. LAMS (laughing at my self) And dont know what P18E means

This is exactly what I do , but I use a long piece of wood all the way across the back, It keeps the hot air from returning under the back and also keeps the table top from heating up which heats up the intake air

Thanks for this info, I had been hoping this setting would add some performance but I see its just aesthetics for the unwary. Yes HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings is what I exported to install on my m6700 but won't need to now, it didn't work anyhow

I made a tweak a number of years ago and cant find the txt settings any where, maybe on an old HDD but dont know which one and would like to know more about it if it does anything or not. Its in power options, advanced settings. Graphic Processor, GPU Power State, Plugged In. I just cant find anything on the web, Dont remember where I got it, But do remember it was regedit setting, I exported the setting and tried to install on another laptop but it didn't show up. Vague possibility maybe got it on NBR, but don't know if it made it into the Archives, Big IF

Here I get the Alienhead while the keyboard flashes to the music. I also noticed my #7 zone light is out, dont know when that happened, but the keyboard flashes to the music fine

Hey Azther, I tried it, works but I lose the screen visuals, the keyboard goes to the music, but is there a way to keep screen visuals and keyboard at the same time, probably asking for too much lol Well when using the screen for something else the keyboard goes to the music, so it works pretty well, Thanks for the heads up!

So the m18x R2 gets ANOTHER Upgrade!!! Really nice for any laptop
