Thank you.

Unfortunately, for the X170KM-G, I saw that it is not very updated, the latest BIOS available is 1.07.07, while on the official website (when you could still download BIOS), I had downloaded 1.07.08, and currently XMG has published 1.07.09 (so evidently the official version of version 1.07.09 should exist).

However, I am resigning myself to sending the computer for repair, the only way to make it pass the POST is to remove all the SSD units, or leave one and try turning it off and on many times, or with 2 SSD units connected, the probability that it passes the POST is perhaps 1 in 50.

I think "Set to Default BIOS" has been tried, if not then I recommend this. Or a full BIOS reset wouldn't hurt either. If this solves your problem, if not, it is recommended to take it to a service center for repair.

Penso che sia stato provato "Set to Default BIOS", se non è così, allora consiglio questo. O anche un reset completo del BIOS non guasterebbe. Se questo risolve il problema, altrimenti, è consigliabile portarlo in un centro di assistenza per la riparazione.

I tried a "BIOS defult" but this didn't resolve the problem.

I will try a complete reinstallation of original BIOS 1.07.08 (latest BIOS that I have, download from Clevo website years ago) 🤔

I also bought a new (Sager) KM-G motherboard and I don't know what BIOS version it will have. I hope it won't be a surprise! 🤔

Hello, all. I have a question about Windows 11: it recently started pushing for me to install version 24H2, but I've read that it may still have some issues. Has anyone tried it on X170KM-G?

As some may recall, I have the EON17-X (2021) version of the system, which came with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed. The computer's been running fine, and the update does not seem to be mandatory yet, but it has been appearing constantly over the last couple of days as a "reminder". I've dismissed it, but Microsoft will eventually make it a requirement, I suspect, so if anyone has installed it, some information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

EDIT on December 12, 2024: I wanted to know if there was anything specific about the 24H2 update to Windows 11 for this particular computer, thinking there were minor issues with this version of Win11, but I've now read what has been posted elsewhere, and in other subforums here on Notebooktalk, and boy is this update a freak show... so I'm avoiding it like the plague, at least for now.

The unlocker works with original bios from Clevo, Dream Machine and others up to version 1.07.08, does not work with bios from XMG, since they changed the structure of the bios.

After using the unlocked version 1.07.08 for years, I need to lock it again, before sending the computer in for service.
I tried the procedure, selecting item 2 "relock", but it doesn't work, the BIOS remains unlocked.
Any possible solution?

To be honest, I mainly use Laird Tflex 300 / Tflex 600 / Tflex 90000 and liquid Laird Tputty 506 / Tputty 607. I am very pleased with these thermal interfaces, although they seem to have not the most outstanding w / mk performance according to the specification, but in reality they are better I have not seen a thermal interface, although I have tried a lot of different manufacturers with supposedly high w / mk rates.

Hi ViktorV, I am curious in which case you use the different products Tflex 300 vs 600 vs 90000.

Are you so kind as to elaborate please? Thanks!

Hello,

Anyone of you have tested those custom aftermarket Hybrid water cooled Heatsinks?

If yes, do you recommend some specific external water pump to this heatsinks?

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year 2025!

My X170KM doesn't start after an EC update. No lights come on when the power supply is plugged in, so I suppose something went wrong during the EC update.

I located two chips under the keyboard and another one under the NVMe slots.

I used my CH341 to read the chips. The one under the NVMe slots is empty, while one under the keyboard looks like the EC chip (it was marked "ITE" when I read it with the CH341, and the memory size is only 8MB). The last one, in a WSON8 package, seems to be the UEFI chip (I would need to sacrifice my SOIC clip to access it).

I reflashed both the EC and UEFI chips, but the computer is still unresponsive.

Do you have an idea what's wrong?

Thank you.

Been a while since I've been on the forum, im still using my laptop, it seems filling the last 2 pcie slots with 4tb ssds is too much for the laptop since it distorts the sound, it also seems that if you add in an external hard drive on top of that also is too much since it immediately turns off. Has there ever been an upgrade that makes this work? I have a 1tb ssd, 2tb ssd in there as well as the 2 externals and its pretty much fine. But if I remove the externals, and add in a 4tb ssd, then it starts distorting. If I remove the 1tb ssd, it seems to be fine too. I feel like I. Can't expand this more

In principle, 4TB SSDs should be handled without any problems, or am I wrong?🤔

yes and i have 2 loaded currently, but i cant add any other ssd or external hard drives or else sound distorts, and going with too many causes a computer shutoff, its like theres a limit on hard drive total capacity

No problem here with 4 drives (3 regular ones and one 2230 2TB in the Wifi slot) and at least two of them were 4 TB or bigger and total storage was between 11 and 16TB.

This was with a 10th gen CPU, 128GB memory, 10G ethernet via Thunderbolt and driving 3 displays at the same time.

I have also been using the latest XMG bios on it and it was really stable.

  • As you want to put in 4 SSDs I assume that you use an 11th gen CPU, correct?
  • Do you have the latest Clevo or XMG bios on it?
  • Does one of the two drives that are already in the laptop use the PCIe 4.0 slot and is it a PCIe 4.0 SSD?

In terms of samsung, I cant remember what the 970 evo and the 980 pro were, but I believe the 990 evos are. I don't think im on the latest bios either. I'm running an 11700k i7

Put a PCIe 3 SSD in that PCIe 4 slot and try again and if that does not help I would go for 3 drives in only the three PCIe 3.0 slots on the side and then maybe the latest bios and try the 4th slot again.

I never liked those 11th gen LGA CPUs as they dropped 2 cores at the top and therefore I do not have any experience with them and never used the regular 4th SSD slot.

FWIW the highest Samsung I used in there was a 970 Evo, but I successfully used the WD SN850X.

I am planning to apply thermal grease to the CPU and GPU but upon checking, I found out that the screws from the GPU are just normal flat screws instead of the spring-loaded ones that I usually saw. Do you have any idea what are the sizes and where to purchase these screws?

The location of your cooling screw is also starting to wear, mine was worn by the spring screw and I replaced it with the manufacturer under warranty. I recommend using a special thermal plastic washer under the spring screw. I got a screw from the manufacturer. Complete screw set for the X170 model and separate CPU and GPU cooling spring screws. I think it's still available. Write to the manufacturer! The German Clevo XMG/Schenker was closer to me and I bought it from them. Good luck!
