A thin spacer is needed when your case is not a performance one. I installed the SODIMM mechanism on a thick spacer in the performance case and everything works. Buying a thin spacer for a performance case is a waste of money.

I'm talking about something else, why use an adapter in WWAN if you can install a 2230 SSD instead of a Wi-Fi module. If DELL allows the installation of a 2242 in WWAN, you could have bought a 2242 SSD and adapter in the store DELL, but the store only had 2230 SSDs and this instead of the AX211. Of course, we understand that to sacrifice the AX211 for an SSD, we need an alternative for wireless internet, and such a sacrifice is acceptable if we have a working WWAN option.

No i only use 2242 SSD.  SN520 works, but under device manager>USB, a ! USB item will intermittently appear and disappear thru out the session, not affecting actual use. Earlier i thought it is because of other peripherals since i connect to the Dock 90% of the times.

 

I have emptied the WWAN slot for 2 weeks since it is not performing to its max.  SN520 can only run at 260MB/s.  Other SSDs that can run at >1GB/s need to go thru a guaranteed blue screen crash everytime the laptop boots.

Received the order, the cover with antennas came in the factory box, with a double protective film. This cover is for the version with an infrared video camera. If you have a cover with a single video camera, you will need to move the cable and video camera to the new cover

Not for 4K! The 4K version does not support WWAN.

Hello

Have any of you been able to undervolt with bios mods, etc. AC loadline. I am considering upgrading to a 7680 from a 7540.

I get great battery life on the 7540 if I disable turbo boost and let the dGPU go to sleep. 7-12h depending on use. (-110 mv cpu/cache i9)

No. No one makes such a card. The one from the Pro Max 16/18 Plus will not fit.

You can look at a Thunderbolt / eGPU solution.

To get a GeForce card for one of these workstations you must contact a sales rep, it is not available as an option on the web site.

(I am actually not sure if they are offering 5080 or 5090. They will only have one option for GeForce.)

appreciate this information, I believe mine is a non-performance one (without a discrete GPU, only the intel i9-13950HX processor), when I tried to install a SODIMM interposer with the RAMs with the default thick plate that came with the CAMM memory module, the back cover of the laptop would not fit. This explains why, thank you. Will purchase the thin plate. Was also curious how you came about to find out about this information, seems pretty niche 😂

 

On a side note I tried to recently replace 83Wh battery with a 93Wh one, while the 93Wh battery fit into the enclosure the battery connector wire was not long enough for the 93Wh battery, any information regarding the part number for this longer battery connector ? 😄

Have you heard of anyone using a screen protector on these units? My 7680 has the non-touch screen and it looks like a plastic, anti-reflection surface. It seems that wouldn't be conducive to a good seal for the "gorilla glass" protectors like we use on cellphones. I might be better off with a thin microfiber between the halves when closed since it's screen protection I'm after.  Thanks again to all for the amazing amount of info here!

I also had this problem at the beginning, when I installed a thin SODIMM plate, there were 4 white flashes and 2 orange flashes, and the power button indicator disappeared. This is not a sign of a device malfunction, so do not worry about the thickness of the plate. After installing the SODIMM, make sure that the pressure plate is evenly secured without any distortion, and that each bolt is tightened in turn with a small step. I changed the CAMM to SODIMM several times, and it started. SODIMM initialization takes a few minutes, and if the initialization is successful, the button indicator should not turn off. Be very careful with the contact plate, as the contact may fall out if it is touched with any object.

When installing SODIMM 32×2 (64), the memory will be reduced from 5600MT/s to 5200MT/s, as it should be

@Mambucho Thanks for your reply will try this out and update. May I clarify if you faced the exact same scenario as me ?Because the RAM gets detected with 32gb on first slot just don't know why installing ram on the second slot always results in the 4 white + 2 amber error. Even just installing 1 ram stick on the second results in the same error

@MambuchoNo luck man, I tried what you recommended but the second slot of the interposer just does not work, the first slot that is nearer to the connector always works with both my RAM sticks.

Yes, that's what happened to me, but then it started working. Do you have XMP 3.0 memory? I read about this issue somewhere, but I can't remember where, and it seems that the default profile is set to 4800 MT/s, which causes an error if it's a SODIMM with XMP, but the DP 7680 BIOS doesn't have a profile management mechanism for DDR5 XMP. I managed to get it working after several CAMM-to-DDR exchanges, so you might need to try more times. I installed the SODIMM board with DDR×2, then I left it for 30 minutes, then I exchanged it for CAMM. You need a little patience, but you can run the DDR modules. I managed to do it

@Mambucho ok let me try a few more times, by the way what is your rationale for doing the CAMM-to-DDR exchanges and also when you left it for 30 minutes you mean when the 4 white and 2 amber lights were blinking ?

DDR - CAMM - DDR exchange was an attempt to run it by luck, I didn't want to think that I had lost money. I bought a SODIMM DDR5 -5600 XMP.3.0, and I found "4 white and 2 yellow flashes", I thought that this was the initialization of the memory, and I waited for a long time. Then I realized that this was a problem, and I installed CAMM again, and I did this several times, and miraculously, the power button did not turn off when the laptop was on, and I waited for about 4 minutes for the correct initialization.
