Bullit
https://www.tomshardware.com/opinion/ssds-in-laptops-and-desktops-cost-too-damn-much Quote A 2TB SSD costs $150 or less, so why are companies charging us $4,000 to get a laptop with one? 1
Etern4l
Nothing new. Dell has been charging huge premiums on their SSDs. Luckily they are not always soldered, so you can upgrade on your own. Lately they have become more "clever" and are forcing higher-spec SSDs with higher-spec CPUs and GPUs though. A desktop is one answer to that. 2 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity
ssj92
This has always been the case. Have you seen apple's SSD prices? It's always best to get the lowest capacity SSD and upgrade yourself later. 3 Alienware m18 : Intel Core i9 13900HX @ 5.0Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 4090 | K1675 | 2x1TB SSDs Alienware Area-51M : Intel Core i9-9900K @ 5.3Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 2080 | AX210 | Samsung 970 Evo+ Alienware M18x R2 : Intel Core i7 3920XM @ 4.7Ghz | nVidia Quadro RTX 5000 | AX210 | Samsung 980 PRO Alienware 18 : Intel Core i7 4930MX @ 4.5Ghz | nVidia Quadro RTX 3000 | AX210 | Samsung 980 NVMe More Laps: M14x (555m) | M14xR2 (650m) | M15x (980m) | M17xR3 (880m) | M18xR1 (RTX 5000) BEAST Server: Intel Xeon W7-3465X 28 P-Cores | nVidia Titan V | 128GB RDIMM | Intel Optane P5800X CS Studios YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CSStudiosYT

A desktop is one answer to that. There is even more in this. You don't even know what brand/model ssd they will put in your laptop. So you risk double up. Trash ssd for huge premium.
