Nothing new. Dell has been charging huge premiums on their SSDs. Luckily they are not always soldered, so you can upgrade on your own. Lately they have become more "clever" and are forcing higher-spec SSDs with higher-spec CPUs and GPUs though. A desktop is one answer to that.

This has always been the case. Have you seen apple's SSD prices?

 

It's always best to get the lowest capacity SSD and upgrade yourself later.

There is even more in this. You don't even know what brand/model ssd they will put in your laptop. So you risk double up. Trash ssd for huge premium. Worst of both worlds.... Double screwed.

Its a not surprise. Companies will do whatever it takes to fleece the consumer to make more profit.

They don't even try to pretend to add value. They prey upon the stupidity of the people that buy their products, and do so shamelessly.

 

Silicon Power, PNY, Team Group and Crucial 2TB NVMe and SATA SSDs are available for  ~$65-$70 on Amazon.
