Looking for a Router

My ISP supplied gigabyte router is locked by design. (I can't make any changes to the router) I have asked the ISP if I could supply my own router and they replied; yes. (That would also same me a monthly fee that the ISP charges me for their router)

So... any recommendations? I want future proof for at least 5 years if possible so that I don't have to buy another for that long. I can afford up to $300 or so. We need long range to reach our stable which is about 500 feet from the home.

Are you looking for a modem or a router (most likely both)? Is your ISP cable? They usually charge you for the modem and they supply one with built in wireless routing...
