Naberius
Hi, all. Apparently I'm not done tinkering with my m17x. I'd like to buy a new GPU heatsink for it. I have both the original 3-heatpipe heatsink and an aftermarket 5-heatpipe purchased from... eBay... (can't recall from whom though). That said, my 5-heatpipe seems like it's a bit off in terms of layout (wherein it doesn't line up very well with the tail-end mosfets) so I'm looking to replace it. (see this post for a picture of the coverage being... not great) A recent eBay search brought up these by Cicichen https://www.ebay.ca/itm/264321972080?hash=item3d8ad13770:g:4T0AAOSw07VafDPA But I'm not actually sure if the Ranger gpu heatsink will fit in the R4. Anyone try it? (I imagine I can reach out to Cicichen but I thought I'd ask here first). Maxware79
The Ranger heatsink is slightly different than the M17x R4. One is slightly longer than the other but I can't remember which way it goes. I have tried it and I know that one fits in both but the other doesn't. My gut says that the Ranger one is the one that fits in both because I remember someone posting on NBR that they used Cicichen's Ranger heatsink in their R4. I have both at home so I can check but I won't be home until Friday morning. I also once posted images of both heatsinks side by side, either on this forum or on NBR. I could have sworn they were _mostly_ interchangeable (like, when i ordered my 5-pipe I seem to recall it was for either) but the purchase is far enough back that I don't have any records for it (which seems crazy but there you have it). I uh... plumbed the nbr archive for a hot second... It's pretty wild in there! Naberius
All right-- So the currently available 5-pipe ranger heatsink from Cicichen won't fit in the m17xR4; the pipes and fins are longer and exceed the amount of available space in the chassis. I've mounted up a p5000 on their current 3-pipe m17xr4 heatsink. That does fit. I'm not sure what to do with the exposed memory on the back of the card though. I suppose I could sandwich in some silicone padding to abut them to the motherboard and do _something_. IIRC the 680m was mounted that way. Any thoughts there? That said, I'm getting some interesting numbers off the p5000. First, idle temperature is higher (like 47c)... I suspected a bad mount until I ran a furmark test. Furmark load test: Temp: ~64c --> low but tracks with what appears to be a lower-wattage card Board draw: ~100w Chip draw: ~50w Core clock: ~1570mhz Memory clock 1500mhz --> very interesting there. IIRC 1070 cards usually run at 2000mhz Firestrike: Graphics at 16000, which is some-ways off from the 17000-18000 on the 1070s I've had Also, overclocking appears to be locked-out. (Anyway - I'll start a new topic because this is getting into p5000 performance and operations) AW M18 R1 | i9-13900HX | RTX4090 | 64GB DDR5 AW M17XR4 | i7-3940XM | GTX1070 | 32GB DDR3 AW M15X | i7-940XM | GTX970m | 16GB DDR3 Formerly Schurke of NBR and TechInferno
sliderfra
Hi, Quadros are LOCKED unfortunately. And usually they have lower memory frequency than the geforce counterpart, that explains your lower scores.
