Naberius
All right... here's a weird one; In trying to track down a non-specific, dismiss-able error code, I replaced the CMOS battery in my laptop. Funny thing is, the laptop won't accept the replacement battery... I've now tried a handful of different CR2032 batteries of different makes (Duracell, Panasonic) and I'm getting 5 beep error codes off all of them. The original battery is a KTS Japan CR2032 and the laptop will start fine on it (albeit with the odd error beep I can dismiss still). (Odd additional detail: testing the original battery with an analog tester: it reads at the bottom of acceptable charge. The new ones read "full" then slowly tick down to low... This is the case for both the Panasonic and Duracell batteries I've tested) Anyone encountered a case where their laptop won't accept... what should be valid replacement batteries? Jerryzago
Maybe its a long shot. Try a complete power drain. Put the old battery back. Also the main battery. Connect charger. Power on system. Shut down from OS. Remove main battery. Press power for 30sec. Remove Cmos battery. Press again for 30sec. Place new Cmos battery. Place main battery. Connect charger. Power on and enter bios. Set proper values and power down to check again if settings remain there. If you have any beep, press incert key when you press power button (used work on some old bios). Hope this help you. Maxware79
If the power drain doesn't work then your issue is probably on the motherboard and it possibly isn't fixable, unless you are good at locating board level repairs. Naberius
This is intensely stupid (perhaps on my part): I was able to get the board to accept a new battery by... firing it up with the new battery, getting the 5 beep rejection, powering down, then (on a lark) powering back up again... Accepted; Just using a regular Duracell CR2032. 1 AW M18 R1 | i9-13900HX | RTX4090 | 64GB DDR5 AW M17XR4 | i7-3940XM | GTX1070 | 32GB DDR3 AW M15X | i7-940XM | GTX970m | 16GB DDR3 Formerly Schurke of NBR and TechInferno
