7750 Display upgrade

Hi just wondering if there is a 4k UHD screen for the 7750 will work in one that has the FHD 1080p display? 

 

I see that the FHD screen has a 30 pin while the UHD has 40 pin.

 

I see 40 to 30 pin adapters but don't think those will work. I'm guessing that the motherboard needs to have the 40 pin connector in order to work with the UHD display.

7750 was definitely offered with a 4K display.

 

There is not a different variation of the motherboard to support a different type of display.  You should be able to just replace the display panel and the display cable.  Don't try to use an adapter.  Find the 40-pin version of the eDP cable designed specifically for this system.

 

What I am not sure about is if the display enclosure / "lid" is the same between the two different types of displays.  Also, I am not sure if the display is attached to the display enclosure with screws, or with adhesive.  You can check on that last one easily enough by just removing the display enclosure bezel.  (Open the laptop as far as it will go and then just carefully pull off the bezel starting from the one of the bottom corners.  It is attached with a little bit of adhesive but mostly plastic clips and can easily be snapped back on.)

 

My Precision 7770 display panel was attached to the enclosure with adhesive.  When Dell replaced the display for me, the part that they got was a full top lid (display panel + enclosure as one part).  I have checked a Precision 7530 and Precision 7560 and those both had displays attached to the enclosure with screws, but, someone on this forum had an in-between system (Precision 7540 I think?) that did use adhesive and not screws.  If it is attached with adhesive then I think it'd be a pain to replace, you'd have to get new adhesive strips and then work carefully to align the panel properly when putting it in.

Ahhh okay. I was looking and seeing the pin difference and figured that they were tied to different motherboards. So the connector on the motherboard is same on all variations whether a Xeon or iX is present just the connector end to the display. That makes sense. 

 

I knew there was 4k option but I was confused about the pin difference. 

 

I was looking for a 7740 in the right configuration but just couldn't find one that met what I wanted to pay. Stumbled onto this high spec 7750 with the 6 core Xeon and RTX 4k that was cheaper then the 7740s I was looking at so hoping its good to go like my 7520 is. My old Acer laptop is just getting to old and needs replacement. Bit bummed there is no provision for sata drive but guess that's is just what it is now.

 

 44TRN is the part number for the 4k UHD screen. VC9P0 is the panel I have and is the FHD screen and if the spec page on the Dell support is correct I have the IR webcam.

The Precision 7540 uses two metal frame pieces that screw into the display enclosure, but the screen is connected to the frame pieces using adhesive strips like this:

The adhesive strips have a tab at the end that, when pulled, unsticks the adhesive.  The adhesive is really strong and resists all but the designed removal method.

 

It looks like the 7750 uses a similar system (metal frame pieces attached to display with some sort of adhesive; four screws connect the frame to the display enclosure):

Also, Parts People lists only one part for the display enclosure.  This means that the 4K screen should work in your existing enclosure, only the 40-pin cable is needed:
