Recovery USB?

Recommended Posts

Just spoke with DELL and they no longer sell USB recovery devices, so how am I supposed to get a full recovery USB with the OS and DELL drivers integrated? They keep pointing me to the Win recovery process but are leaving out how to get the DELL drivers integrated into it. I know the DELL stuff needs to be installed in a particular order so would like an all-in-one solution. Any help is appreciated.

Let me expand on this. I want to do a full restore of my laptop back to factory. DELL is saying they don't sell/have anything that can do this, so I am left with this:

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000125230/how-to-create-and-use-the-dell-recovery-restore-usb-drive

which apparently just makes a recovery point from your existing install (so it has to be in perfect working order, which mine is not) or a basic Windows recovery download/install with no DELL drivers.

In case it is worth anything, here is my low skill, ignorance based, two cent experience with the M6700. For windows 7, I used to fresh install windows with the precise Dell drivers (downloaded to USB) in the recommended order. Beginning with windows 10, I just let windows install whatever drivers it thinks I need and it has worked fine. The only thing missing is a utility for changing features of the keyboard, trackpad, and pointer nub. Don't even know if Dell still provides it anywhere.

I agree more or less, these days I find it fine to do the base Windows install, get it online (install Ethernet or Wi-Fi driver), and let Windows Update take care of everything.  I think that it will get every single driver.  I'd still install the GPU drivers from Dell, and maybe some extra non-driver stuff like Dell Optimizer if you think you actually need it.
