Recommended Posts

Hi , So I have Alienware m17x 880M i74910MQ 240W 120hz display window10. Wanted to upgrade it to gtx1060 here is what I did:-

SSD Already on GPT

unlocked the bios

set the video mode to PEG

Installed the new gpu (1060) then restart

didn't boot  gave me 8 beeps and black screen

boot mode set to uefi

it booted after couple tries

the only step now needed is a modded driver <--- I'm not sure if I did this right

I get the above message,

when I went to device manger, I selected show hidden devices (cuz Display Adapters was not showing)and it showed 880M transparent I uninstalled it thinking that I would help me install 1060 instead then the Display Adapters gone forever.

tried restart many times no good , the GPU is detected in bios tho, however not in device manger anymore

I don't know where to go from here?

Any support would be appreciated

Thank you

All the steps are correct. Use DDU to remove any drivers in the system. Use Nvcleaninstall software to install the Nvidia driver.

After modding the driver, you'll need to restart with driver signature enforcement disabled. Then you "should" be able to proceed with installation.

If it's still giving you trouble, please post which guide and steps you undertook to mod the driver. The process hasn't changed in... like a decade... but different guides are easier to follow than others.
