frank99
Hello everyone. My name is Frank. I found my father's old laptop (m17xr4) rusting in a box. I cleaned it up and got it to work again. That gave me joy and i decided to upgrade it. At first, i replaced the hdd drive with a ssd one. The gpu was next. I ordered gtx1070 from ebay and after two months of long wait, it finally arrived. I put it on but i am getting the 8 beeps. Now i am back to the gtx 675m (working normally). Do i need to make extra changes before i install the 1070 or did i get scammed? It started as a fun project but now i dont know.. haha. extra info: i am using the original 60hz lcd panel, windows 10, bios A09 Thanks in advance. ssj92
Install the unlocked bios. Go to bios and change the video to SG if it isn’t already. In Optimus mode the 1070 should work Alienware m18 : Intel Core i9 13900HX @ 5.0Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 4090 | K1675 | 2x1TB SSDs Alienware Area-51M : Intel Core i9-9900K @ 5.3Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 2080 | AX210 | Samsung 970 Evo+ Alienware M18x R2 : Intel Core i7 3920XM @ 4.7Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | AX210 | Samsung 980 PRO Alienware 18 : Intel Core i7 4930MX @ 4.5Ghz | nVidia Quadro RTX 5000 | AX210 | Samsung 980 NVMe More Laps: M14x | M14xR2 | M15x (980m) | M17xR2 (RTX 3000) | M17xR3 (WX 7100) | M18xR1 (RTX 5000) BEAST Server: Intel Xeon W7-3465X 28 P-Cores | 2x nVidia RTX Titan | 128GB RDIMM | Intel Optane P5800X CS Studios YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CSStudiosYT

Boot the USB stick with the bios execute the commands PRR2.exe then fpt.exe -f m17xr4.bin -bios
frank99
I am trying to install the original bios first. That is what the instructions from the unlocked version say. I keep getting “test.” instead of proceeding when i try to update

frank99
UPDATE: I found a way to bypass the battery check. I installed latest bios and therefore the unlocked ones. Now the primary display settings keep resetting back to peg instead of staying in sg mode. So i think that this is the reason i am getting the 8 beeps again
sliderfra
how did you bypass the batt check? IIRC one of the unlocked bios has default settings to SG. Which one did you install?

Battery and ac check from 1 to 0. I have installed the a15 unlocked bios now (i found it here in a post at the alienware club). I have to install the gpu drivers now because it doesn’t recognize it. I still haven’t figured out the peg reset thing
frank99
UPDATE: The gpu is installed 🤩 Next upgrade will be the RAMs. Are these okay? Also, any other recommendations for future upgrades?
