Pimp my Rid... ehh M6800

hey peeps, got an M6800 for 100 bucks n now just want upgrade... some stuff already clear n ordered / installed, but need to know a couple of things(mainly about GPU options).

 

Service Tag is: 9F9PZ52 (so u guys can take a look of original config)

 

Original Configuration --> planed - ordered - already done/delivered:

 

i7-4710MQ --> i7-4930MX(@4.1GHz allcore)

2x 4GB DDR3L 1600 --> 4x 4GB Kingston DDR3L 2133 CL11

AMD FirePro M6100 --> NV GTX 880M 8GB(just waiting for the NV heatsink, 880M i already had bcs was planned for a imac upgrade) doesnt work, maybe corrupted Bios, Quadro P5200

2x SATA 500GB HDD --> 2x 250GB Samsung 850 Evo SATA Raid0 + Kioxa BG5 1TB mPCIe

No WIFI --> WIFI 6/AX

sticky Palmrest --> New Palmrest

Low Performance GPU Heatsink --> Optimizing Heatsink: lil Copper Heatsinks, second Fan

Windows 10 Pro --> Windows 11 Pro

just measured some things... i can solder some passive heatsinks on the GPU n CPU cooler plate, height between 2-5mm, n in the secondary HDD bay will fit a 70*15mm blower fan, good on this is, no mods on the cassis itself needed, just couple hole on the bottom cover for the fan to get fresh intake n done, another really great thing is, bcs the bay is open straight to the direction of the cooler plates, they will get the whole fresh air, with some passive heatsinks on it, should be easy to cool down a 120W card + 57W CPU.

just will order another CPU fan, fits perfect in the secondary HDD/SSD bay n can blow fresh air straight to the GPU heatsink, need to make a fan cable splitter bcs will put it straight to the CPU fan connector(should handle 0.6A in total). so few holes in the bottom cover, connect the cable, put the fan in n fresh air to the mem + GPU heatsink(will solder 2mm copper heatsinks on it for maximum performance)

ok, next step done: found n took a 4x4GB set of kingston 2133MHz mem, now just waiting for the parcel from aliexpress n the P5200 from poland from @colohgc. 😄 new palrest ordered too, the old one looks good but its sticky(really dont know why in the 2000s everyone putted those shitty coat on everything what get sticky after couple of yrs, even ferrari did on their knobs in 400k+ cars 😵‍💫), backlit keyboard to find with CH layout is nearly impossible, so maybe will take a look for a german one. 

 

n seen those samsung v-nand SATA SSDs have a really tiny circuit boards, will try to fit it in secondary bay without case while the "tuning" fan is in, when it fits will use raid0 with a second one... bcs whats better then speed? more speed!! 🤪

 

n still thinking about hailo-8 in the WWAN slot 🫠

ok, putted card into my m6800 n doesnt work, but wasnt the fault of the card bcs in my 7720 works flawless... so i think same prob with the GTX 880M, card not broken or currupted bios, think something wrong with the MXM slot, possible broken(but really dont know how, bcs i never force stuff to come out or get in), maybe dirty connects... will clean it with alc next couple days n try again.

Thanks for doing this Annihilator.  You may be the last of the guys on this forum to do this. Like the poster on another subject said, most of us are just buying the best computer that we can afford and not modding. The rest are using their phones. You should visit the video forums for a shock. They are dying also except for Videohelp.com. The rest are almost dead.

I put RTX 4080 MXM on M6800 and it works (check userbenchmark for proof). No weird 40W TDP bug (maybe only happens on Alienware?). Yes 4080 displays in the main screen, eDP with backlight mod v1.

 

The custom heatsink works, need to use PTM7950 for better performance. Sadly I can't close the lid with the heatsink installed...

did u measured old n new heatsink? where is the prob, at the radiator/fins or the cooler plate itself to high? im machinist n most things easy doable for me when its made from metal 😄

The fins + heatpipe are like OEM, 1.8cm height, no problem on that. But it's strange??? The heatpipes curves are made by hand and not machine... 70€ gone for nothing

Yeah and I give up, I always get scammed man, CPU does not work. The heatsink doesn't fit with palmrest but it works. The heatpipes look in bad shape, is that a beta version??

 

EDIT: SELLER WILL GIVE ME A FREE NEW HEATPIPE V2!!!! But I need to wait like 3 weeks ...

im tempted to order the heatsink n put the fat heatpipes from the original heatsink on it... 🤪

PEG RTX 4080, 150W, Arctic MX-4

 

The heatsink performance:

 

83C max, throttles at second 25th out of 60 seconds. The main problem comes from the badly curved heatpipes, mostly the third heatpipe which probably cuts 50% of its performance easily. It's like a loss of 15-20W easily.

 

Memory temps: 80C max

Hotspot temps: 100C max

 

No thermal throttles in heaven benchmark 4.0, lower FPS than the Clevo P570WM3 due to the CPU I guess, I use an i7 4700MQ and not the best i7 4940MX.

 

No thermal throttles in userbenchmark GPU suite benchmarks, very good score.

 

I think having better heatpipes without any big tends + PTM7950 could maybe handle 150W
