unless something's wrong with hardinfo's interaction with lm_sensors

Maybe that is the case; most of the gui tools in that list specifically mention fan speeds / show it in the screenshots. Or maybe lm_sensors is just not detecting them properly on your system??

Banned... for gaming on Linux... 'cause that's "cheating" and unfair to Winduhz users that are crippled by the cancer OS.

AMEN! It's true. The Redmond Mafia doesn't want anyone to know that.

@ryanbesides all of the Crysis titles we love, this one also plays great. (So far almost everything does.)

It really is good. People that says they are sticking with Windoze so they can play games haven't taken time to investigate Linux. Maybe it never occurred to them that SteamOS is Linux, LOL.

This isn't supposed to work, but Lutris makes it so. Slightly lower score than Windows, but to be expected. My little Munchkin work PC isn't designed for this kind of thermal torment and it definitely thermal throttled, LOL.

OK now that I let the water in the 360 AIO cool down overnight and my office is not 82°F it's working much better. Cinebench R24 does not work as efficiently on Linux as R23 does. Very close to the same score in Linux and Windows with Cinebench R23. With R24 the clock speeds dip due to the Linux power management governor being too aggressive.

With time you all will see Linux will get a bigger user-base. To the better for the whole Linus community. More power means more options. Microsoft digging their own grave.

I started using Windows XP and then Vista, after a long time I was just happy with Windows 7 and considered it extremely convenient, fast and functional, the early 10th versions also evoke pleasant feelings and became native.

In general, it is actually quite frustrating to see where all this is going in the end and what path they have started to follow. Linux is really getting closer.

Potentially 10% if all the "Unknowns" are running Linux.

Seriously, I take StatCounter stats with a large helping of salt.  They tend to have lots of aberrations - like how macOS lost 7% of the entire market between November and December - not 7% of macOS, 7% of everything.

Steam also shows increased Linux share, over 2%... it also has had its fair share of aberrations.  But that is a second data point.

I'm curious if there are any more concrete metrics, points of comparison.

The Linux increase sounds plausible, if not macOS losing 7% in December... but I'd like something a bit more reliable than StatCounter before proclaiming 2024 to be the Year of the Linux Desktop.

(Although if Microsoft keeps cloud-ifying Windows, 2025 may be the Year of the Linux desktop for me)

Trying first ZorinOS then i had EndeavorOS and switching back to windows only reason not enough time regarding some personal and family topics which will take more time the next months.

i don't dive deep into linux in this 4 Weeks and regarding my first out of the box experience a few years ago (Ubuntu) it felt more handier (this was the first wort in my mind)and what i have seen felt very close to windows there were just some small things for me which i was not able to solve and that were rgb (openrgb and msi could be a bit better), system monitoring (AiO D360 from MSI with Display) and i try to use raid 0 from the start like it is working with windows. i have several ssd's and i like the raid 0 option from the start from windows and would like to see this support for linux as well.

i try several things and with ZorinOS i was able to use raid 0 from the start but this could be a thing which could a bit easier.

Games War Thunder, Cyberpunk 2077, Order of Battle: WW2, Warhammer I - III and Beyond all Reasion all of it was running well on  27" 4K 60Hz display and i had the feeling that the graphics were much more better then on windows. on windows i have sometime the feeling it is a bit pixaleted but with linux everything seems to be more sharp, more clear more detail.. more of everything.

With my current state of knowledge with Linux which is very superficial i see no reason to stay with windows most of the things i used could be done with Linux as well.

Regarding my personal and family topics i see my next attempt for Linux next year with hopefully some more spare time.

Been playing around with Batocera Linux

Its basically an emulator distro for playing retro games. No real setup involved, just burn the image to a 1Tb SSD (I downloaded from Arcade Punks)

Its a little buggy on my Alienware Ranger,  froze up a couple of times and hard reboot required. Havent tested on my Legion.
