Linux Gaming Thread

I am moving one step closer to getting the server up and running to move our onedrive docs to our own server, and remote access to it. I have help from someone on the acer website who insists that it will boot an OS from an internal pci-e card mounted SSD.  I am firing it up, putting the main bios screen in screenshot for him and see what he says.

Crossing my fingers.  I am loving linux and Zorin. Works great for my use case. It will be perfect after getting it on my much more powerful systems, but really it's damn good on the little low spec dell.

At least many won't jump on Battlefield 6. Better save the money.

While the official PC specifications are fairly forgiving for a modern, graphically intensive title, the mandatory Secure Boot requirement could negatively impact sales.

I certainly hope so. I hope they literally lose their butt with massive financial losses because of people saying no to their stupid control freak bull crap. This would be the first Battlefield title that I haven't purchased and I won't purchase any game that requires that I enable that kind of stupid filth. They can plant a wet one on my wrinkled old recently-used unwashed sphincter.

Hopefully most of the sheeple will join me in saying no to the digi-Nazi clown posse.

Yes that will definitely work unless you get a weird PCIe card. I have never owned one that did not support booting an operating system. All of the operating systems on both of my desktops run on Sabrent quad NVMe PCIe cards. Works perfectly. I only install NVMe SSDs in my motherboard slots that are used for storage.

From what I understand it should as well, but she's an old girl. So, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.  I just went and found the PCI-E card I bought.

Again, Don't know if that has anything to do with it either.  I am trying to use TrueNAS core as my OS.  I have to fire up the system again and take a photo of the main bios screen for someone at acer, so they can see what's going on.  I can't wait to get this server running and get my and my families data off onedrive.

I have a couple of Glotrends PA20 that work great, but my favorite is this model. I have two installed in the X870E AORUS Master and one in the X870E-E Strix (because it only supports one).

Yeah sabrent are awesome.  I was just hoping the cheaper option would work for me as it's just an older 4 hot swap server. At least I got one that has been user proven to work.

I just hope that Steam makes all games available on the platform be made to work on linux either natively or through proton and run correctly.  If that's the case I would say Colin will be moving to Linux. My wife and I will have no issues even though she thinks she would. But if she was using mint, it would a minimal swap from windows 10 she's using at work.

I have been using Zorin more and more and enjoying the lack of lagging, and no bullcrap using the OS. I am enjoying Brave as a browser and once I get this or some sort of disto on my main computers, I will be very happy to edit photos, videos etc on it.

Just an update for people wanting to run Steam Games. When installing Linux, format your ssd / hdd to EXT4 instead of NFTS . This makes proton work properly with all steam OS games from what I have been told.  I will be trying it for sure.  It will be a slow process as I am going to upgrade Colin's system while doing the switch to Linux.  I am going to put a 4 or 8tb fast SSD in it, 64gb of ram upgrade as well. That way I will kill three birds with one stone, a fresh new ssd install of Linux garuda gaming on his system with his Games installed.

I hope I can get Garuda to be a little more user friendly for installing and using games.

Microsoft getting help from game devs to throw fully functioning hardware to the landfill. How much did Redmond HQ pay them for this?

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6 Confirmed to Require Secure Boot and TPM 2.0

Both the upcoming online multiplayer shooters, "Call of Duty Black Ops 7" and "Battlefield 6," will feature anti-cheat and DRM measures that require Secure Boot. Activision, in a blog post on its Ricochet Anti-Cheat mechanism, confirmed that it will be a system requirement for the PC platform to have Secure Boot enabled, in addition to features such as a TPM 2.0 compatible hardware root of trust, including support for PCRs, sealing and binding. This would be the standard security policy for a fresh installation of Windows 11 24H2. Unlike "Battlefield 6," the latest "Call of Duty" doesn't seem to call for Virtualization-based Security (VBS) to be enabled. It's not just "Black Ops 7," even the current "Call of Duty Black Ops 6" starting with its Season 5 update, and "Warzone," will begin enforcing these new system requirements, since Activision will be updating the Ricochet Anti-Cheat component of those games.
