Can't say I like the fact that this is only a BGA book but the idea of the LPP seems simple and very effective. Not sure how much of it is patented as it seems to me that it would be easy to emulate by other manufacturers but it seems to be a game changer.

 

Based on specs and real life performance it would probably be my choice of BGA book right now except that the price now is really quite high and that I need more memory and storage. I also love the 16:10 17" WQXGA screen.

For the amd version i will mention that its usb 3 not usb 4. So yeah. Because the usb-c is wired to the dgpu not the igpu.

One of the reasons why until now I have never considered a laptop with AMD CPU is that interesting chassis never had Thunderbolt.

Hope that will change at some point so that I may consider some multicore 16+ cores AMD powered DTR in the future.

It's more like usb 4 was an option. They just didn't choose it.

This is indeed quite crappy and limitations like these make our lives needlessly complicated.

jay had a look at the intel version:

 

tbh im a bit disappointed at the cpu performance, barely 20k in CB23 WITH water cooling. just goes to show the worth of a 12900K in the NH55 even if its not full performance but still beating this bga book by 4000 pts on air cooling 😋😁

nevertheless, eluktronics / tongfang make great machines compared to other vendors!

Let's not forget that he is getting 20K out of a CPU with only 6 performance cores. With a 12900HX I would expect at least 24K from the BGA book if not more. But yes, given all its limitations it is quite impressive what can be done with that little Clevo with an above average chip. Another benefit that by design is not available to the BGA book where you have to take what you can get, no chance to later swap for a chip that is 5 or even 10% better than average.

Now imagine that Clevo had used a bigger 17" chassis that I heard they used to have until recently - what was the name again...

ah yes, its "only" a 12900H, was thinking of the HX 😋 not that familiar anymore with mobile chip specs...cant bother 😅

Well, that certainly has a nice keyboard.  This is the machine to get till 4000 series comes out.  Totally leapfrogged competition with the liquid loop.  Anyone know how many nits the screen should hit max?

I saw this LinusTechTips review some time ago, and it seems that eluktronics still has some things to polish out in the LPP setup.

And I don't know, if I'm willing to have an additional LPP box on my desk, I would probably go with a desktop than a laptop at this point. At least until the LPP is perfected and becomes prevalent. And maybe gets paired socketed CPUs? (probably never going to happen, but one can't help but wish :D )

But it's still very interesting to see these kinds of developments in the laptop world. I wonder how soon other manufacturers will pick this up.

well, generally its nothing new though, same with socketed CPUs in laptops. things have a habit of coming back, not just in the fashion world haha

Really is kind of an abortion. It is a space hog and looks stupid. It definitely reminded me of a colostomy bag and it still does. That, or a fibroid neck tumor. And, it is totally counter-intuitive to tether a notebook to a desktop and use weird contraptions to make it slightly better when you can just put a desktop on a desktop and have everything turn out exactly as you want it. Compromise always sucks at some level, and the more you can avoid it the better off things are.

It's really come around with the Tongfang solution.  My complaint with the set up is that you don't have a great degree of control over the pump.  It runs at a fixed speed and there doesn't appear to be configurable (at the moment).  Eluktronics has said that a patch is in the works that will allow a greater degree of user control but as of today, you plug it in and can either have the fan be noticeable (but still pretty quiet) or virtually silent.

Hi @Prema,

 

is there any chance to get my hands on the PremaMod BIOS for the Mech 17 GP ? I have the same Clevo Chassis and unfortuantely my unit misses G-Sync and advanced optimus and I don't know why. I have the exact same Panel as all other units. My BIOS is so heavy limited...

 

My config is: i9 12900H+RTX 3080 Ti
