The crippling is caused by NVIDIA's dynamic boost ever since the 30 series, I think AMD does the same thing but im not sure but anyways there still no excuses for it. If people going to spend $5000+ for a I9HX+RTX4090 combo laptop they should be able to run it at its full potential. Also a lot gaming laptops uses advanced optimus now (upgraded MUX) which you have the best of both worlds without any bottlenecking going on especially in games.

I know, but the crippling of max power consumption continue. Last year well above 320W. Now it will be 250W. What with next years laptop models? 200W? The newest USB PD Revision 3.1 specification offer up to 240W of power over full featured USB Type-C® cable and connector. This is the max and the OEMs will never allow this amount sustained high power from the adapter for laptops. So 200w it will be. Or even down to 180W with peaks up to 200WCIGAR.gif.199d7ef1b9d17aaa53ef66785abf3dbb.gif Aka lower max power cosumption than what the GPU in my Clevo laptop consume by itself. And this for the whole Jokebook. Yep, sad times being an laptop jockey... The crippling trend roll faster and faster.

It doesn't matter how crappy laptops get. The sheeple will always fall in line and comply. The companies selling trash know this.

Most big laptops have at least two USB-C / Thunderbolt ports so it would be possible to do 2 x 240W this way. So that would not be an issue.

The issue is of course that we are now stuck with 250W max combined power delivery. Makes no sense as obviously 7lbs laptops are good enough to allow for 250W so with 9 lbs 300W or more wouldn't be an issue especially with most of the added weight going directly to cooling.

The easiest way to achieve something that is good for both the enthusiast and the thin and light crowd would be a chassis that allows for a slim AND a beefy cooling solution.

Apart from the heat sink assembly only the bottom cover would have to change for that and the beefier version would get the higher TDP.

And of course a socketed CPU would be most welcome - please do it in time for the next Intel generation as then it will last a few years with proper microcode support.

Yep, and most modern laptops have less I/O ports nowadays because the USB-C ports is meant to replace them. The Apple way. <nice with I/O ports as etc USB-C> that can't be used because you need to use it to power up your laptop😎 Dell scrapped etc Ethernet port for their high end gaming books because they preferred USB-C dongles for thin and slimy to let you connect to internet. Not all use want to use the Wifi connection. All this reminds all too much about Apple. You get less and less, but still have to pay premium.
