Which version do you have? HP Or Aetina?
Ps: he has the HP one.
But which vbios version do you have?
Can I flash an HP VBIOS to an Aetina card? It's to use it as eDP on a Clevo 120Hz screen.
HP as the Aetina is fairly rare in the states and doesn't regularly appear on ebay. It shows as being Dell in gpu-z even though I've made no changes to the vbios.

Thank you!!
That's seriously awesome! Would love to replicate it for 8560w, seems logical and 100% compatible.
Funny those old laptops are more modular than modern modular brands. Great laptops really.
Anyone tried these adapters for 2230/2242 nvme to expresscard 34?
Kind of makes sense for hotswap storage or test system drive, hopefully not at 2.5Gbit speeds of Expresscard
I have and hotswap works however expect an blue screen once in a while. The performance isn't great being pcie 1x at 2.0 but still handy for moving files on/off much older laptops while serving as extra storage. The adapter itself could be better when it comes to build quality.

So you're telling me, HP cards are superior in terms of eDP? My screen is pure-eDP, 120Hz, will all the RTX Turing from HP work?
@nforce4maxyou also said you got an RTX Turing card to work on your M6800 with eDP with an HP card. Which version? C, D?
I believe that is the D version.

and it will not work, because ddr3 modules for 16gb do not work on the 4th generation intel. you need at least broadwell and that depends on the implementation of the bios of a particular laptop.
so count on 16 gigabytes maximum in case of 4890hqSomeone here got 16gb modules working on an M6800 however the real issue is the cost as very few are going to pay around $200 a module just to hit 64gb.

Why did you need to remove 2 sticks of ram ? I'm also looking to put either a 4980hq or a 4940mx in my m4800
Does anyone here have a 4940mx in their m4800 to confirm that it will run at 57w ? It would be pointless if it runs at 47w
If it runs at 47w or if it's heavily heat throttled I'll just buy a 4980hq on Ali to replace my 4910mq (if it supports a quad ram stick config)
One of the M4800s I've bought had the 4940mx from factory and they do turn up with the 4930mx as well on eBay time to time however thermal performance isn't great but still tolerable.

I have to wonder what features are going to be lost from this new generation forward, don't like clunk pads and non serviceable keyboards.

Are you using the original vBIOS that came on the card or a different one?
Original unless the seller flashed it and didn't state it in the listing, bought it on eBay for around $200 give or take over a year ago.

Are you using HP RTX MXM card for eDP or Aetina/AdLink models?
Something tells me the HP cards still are wired/support eDP while the embeded models do not support eDP
HP as that was the only cards I could find that were not too costly.

Might not just be the screw mount positions, you should check things like the number of heat pipes or the type and size of the cooler on the GPU side. I think in Precision 7770 and 7780, they use a more skimpy cooler for systems with the lower-powered GPUs.
Doesn't surprise me, they've done the whole skimpy pipes on low spec coolers bs as well which can really hurt cpu side.

Has anyone ever dealt with repairing a 7740 motherboard? More specifically, one that has an `LCD power rail failure'? (That is, two amber blinks, then eight white blinks at boot)?
I finally got my nearly dream 7740 with an 9980HK and a RTX4000, but wanted to upgrade to a UHD panel. I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg so thought I'd be clever and buy an Alienware LCD Display Assembly (Dell part 74D90, for an Area-51m R2) for only about $70. Well, the panel has a high-density 0.4mm pitch 40-pin edp connector and the cable I have for the 7740 as a 0.5mm pitch 40-pin edp connector. I bought an adapter off of aliexpress to convert between them thinking that would be fine. Well...
After disassembling the system, swapping the cable and hooking it up, nothing seemed to happen. The power light lit up, but the LCD panel never did and then the power light just went off. =( At first I thought that the panel was bad, but after swapping everything back to the original cable and panel it continued to do the same thing. That's when I noticed the LED error blinks, which specified `LCD power rail failure.' =(
I'm not sure just what's at fault. The video cable I was using is the G11GD/DAP20_EDP_CABLE_UHD, which AFAIK should be the right cable (ie. not a 40-pin touchscreen cable; from what I can tell Dell didn't sell a 7730/7740 with a touchscreen?). Could be that 40-pin edp adapter is bad, since the panel itself was brand new, but it's as likely that I didn't get the connection quite right and shorted something when I connected it. At this point I don't really feel like trying to test the adapter/panel in another one of my other systems though!
The Dell Service Manual just says `replace motherboard', but it was already hard enough to find _this_ one with an 9980HK! Is there a repair schematic available anywhere? Hopefully if it was a short then there should be an obvious blown capacitor or something in the LCD power rail area that could be replaced (although I don't see any damage on any of the connectors or on the motherboard!). I did swap out the RTX4000 for an RTX3000 I had in the hopes that the power circuit was there, but of course there's no change. I tried clearing the CMOS (both by holding down the power button and by pulling the CMOS battery), but that didn't help either.
Thanks!
I've only come across horror stories of those adapters going bad killing boards and panels so r.i.p there. You would need the schematics and the tools to figure out what went wrong then fix it. Hopefully if you are in luck not too much got shorted.

When it comes to heatsink one could get lucky provided the screw mounts are the same otherwise be ready to spend more ontop of buying the card.

Wow, what an enormous price disparity between P4000 & P5000 for the Precision 7720. Under $200 for used P4000 up to $1,200 & only available overseas for P5000. Dang. So P5000 is that good, huh? I've seen various posters state that you shouldn't buy used models of these cards. Just regular buyer beware on used stuff, or is there a specific reason to steer clear of used P4000/P5000?
In addition, I thought this thread was mainly about the graphics cards for Dell Precision 7720's & similar. But I see folks mentioning graphics cards that I can only find for PC's/towers/full-size form factor boxes. For example, is there some version of a GTX 1070 made for a notebook? All I can find is this guy doing a GTX 1070 card...no clue where he got it from...on a Precision 7710, but sounds like some light modding is needed...
For that kind of money one may as well just get an RTX 5000 just to be done with it. $1200 is just dumb and I would move on to another project.

My understanding is that eDP only works with NVIDIA GPUs in this system. Newer AMD GPUs that don’t work with LVDS might not work at all. In any case, the chassis cannot accept a “standard” eDP panel without some light modification. (I think @TheQuentincc managed to get a 4K panel working in there at one point.)
The WX7100 works in this model with the 120hz panel just fine as I've daily used this setup for about two years before upgrading to an M6800 reusing the same card with that machine as it was also edp. W7170M and the WX7100 from the 7710 and 7720 work almost flawlessly with the exception of the W7170M being thicker.

Interesting, when I checked the PN on Parts People I ended up on the E11 version which is eDP. If it's LVDS then I should be able to use RTX 3000 then using Optimus. Once it's up and running I will attempt this.
Interesting, I couldn't get my RTX 3000 to work on eDP but I have Adlink you have an HP one I am assuming.
Forgot to mention another thing to try....using a driver older than 425.XX such as 419.XX
This worked for me on M18xR1 using RTX 5000 with Intel HD 3000
Yes I am using the HP version, I typically avoid LVDS models but have bought some by mistake over the years. Might work but I am not expecting it to work in this case. The card works really well with EDP M6800 that much I can vouch for and the same is very likely true for the M6700 with an edp panel.
-
The first gen RTX series works with EDP and had zero issues with my M6800 aside from needing to mod the heatsink so there is a chance it could work with your M6600. This card doesn't dump too much heat so it should be fine once everything is installed right.

Dead OS and I guess a large majority of windows users that are still using 10 will probably continue once October comes and goes as there is no way society is going to switch over to 11 with broken updates being the norm.

Supposedly a lot of popular detergents contain salt so that would have been more than enough to kill it so long there was any charge in the battery. Tried washing the board by hand in distilled water or under the tap then dry with forced air by chance?

Some positives and some negatives, wish there were options regarding the keyboard and track pad. Lastly a lot of people would love for there to be a Ryzen version but nope.

Mmmmmm
One of the more difficult lessons I've been learning over this past year is that when there isn't enough people some jobs get a lot harder especially when there is some dead weight involved.

Garbage trackpad.
Garbage keyboard.
I bet that palmrest gathers pools of sweat.
Look at all that wasted real-estate on the side where you could put lots more USB ports.
Nice big screen though.
Does nobody actually do any work on computers these days?
As a mindless content consumer why would I pick this over a Macbook?
As someone actually doing some work why would I pick this? (over ... what?, its all garbage now! fml)
I guess someone leasing them for a corporate fleet won't have anything to get alarmed about though. It looks exactly like every other generic blah machine and can run powerpoint.
I guess this is meant for all those pointless meetings that could have been emails rather than for productive work which likewise has also been the fate of Thinkpads for good part of a decade now.

I would assume that it does have eDP but you could look around here on the forum for any examples where this card was paired with that display type or not.
