Honestly, the Winduhz 11 "scheduler" doesn't seem to do a damn thing as far as I can tell. My 12900K performs better with Windows 7, Windows 10 LTSC 2019 and Windows 10 LTSC 2021 than it does with Winduhz 11. I can't point to one single thing that makes Winduhz 11 a better OS to use. Not one. Don't waste your time with it. It's a piece of crap.
Given I ended up getting a Ryzen system, I'll just stick with LTSC; Win11 is just venereal disease for an OS at this point.

Limited mobility doesn't necessarily rule out VR; there are a surprising number of games that support VR while seated. It isn't quite the same as room-scale, but if room-scale was the main discouraging factor... it might still be worth considering.
I'm more concerned about the wrist movements since I do have rather bad arthritis, but I've truly never understand why VR is such a huge thing, but I haven't tried it so I can't say.

Slightly irritated that my main system bit the dust overnight while my girlfriend was on her PC next to it; apparently it started flashing and eventually shut off, to never turn on again.
I was looking to upgrade soon anyhow, but it's annoying that I can't play some games and do some specific niche things on it. Oh well, after I move I'll hopefully manage a decent desktop; haven't decided if I'm gonna go with an Alder Lake i7 with a 6900xt or a 5950x with a 3090. The tear is partially Linux, but partially encoder related.
Been stressed about a residency permit I need where I live so I don't go back to the US; if I go back I'll be homeless because I left the country to get away from abusive family at the young ol' age of 21. Here's hoping everything goes okay in the next couple of weeks.
-
Do we know if the scheduler for Alder Lake will be making its way to LTSC at some point? It's absolutely silly to ask, and given LTSC doesn't get feature updates I don't think it'd get it, but doesn't hurt to ask.
I'd really rather not use Win11 when my new system is delivered, but it's most likely I'll be running Enterprise.

Looks like when I upgrade my PC in a couple of months I won't be touching Windows outside of an LTSC install purely for PSO2 (because GameGuard doesn't work under Linux). My eyes feel like they burn everytime Microsoft comes up with something that'll be "great", or otherwise, detrimental.
On the upside of that upgrade, I'll finally have the all AMD system I dreamed of a few years ago. This aged like milk; my main system had the power delivery fail on it, and it's toast. Blegh.
Eh, now I get to suffer under Alder Lake in a couple of weeks! Thinkpad is still going strong, so that makes me happy at least. -

Not really any retro games I'm particularly interested in currently, but I'll keep an eye out and see if anything catches my eye (might need a Windows XP virtual machine for some stuff eventually)

I'm planning an Alder Lake upgrade within the next few months and I will be running Windows 10 on it, regardless of whether or not Microsoft backports Thread Director support. I just posted over here in the Precision section my thoughts on the situation. I think that Windows 10 on Alder Lake will be workable even without Thread Director support, at least if you are aware of what the potential issues are and the available workarounds.
(Ads in File Explorer is only the latest problem, I have this other post going into detail on my issues with Windows 11. And Windows 10 isn't immune to added cruft either. In addition to the "news & interests" feature that they added last year, they're now adding this "search highlights" feature which actually might throw stuff into your taskbar and search for holidays and the like. LTSC avoids post-release feature additions like this.)
Honestly, with the improvements coming in Linux 5.18, more likely than not I'll end up with a single-gpu passthrough setup to run Windows 10 in a virtual machine and keep Linux as my host (which was my original plan with dual gpu, but unlikely to pull two 6900 XT cards out of my ass). I have realistically no reason to keep using Windows outside of a single game, and my hopes is that its anticheat gets some form of Linux compatibility in the future.
If they backport ITD to Windows 10, that'd be really nice, but probably by the time it does I'll just no longer be using Windows; it's a bad taste in my mouth for my personal enjoyment.

So now I might have to upgrade (but to me it seems like a downgrade due to the direction with ads and such) to Windows 11 if I end up upgrading to Alder Lake next month; but honestly I'm torn because as much as I hate a lot of things with Windows 11, Alder Lake seems so promising; and I'd be okay with a Ryzen processor, but I have a feeling that AM4 is gonna be EoL in a year or two, and I just don't know where I stand on this.
Due to the market here, I basically have to go with a prebuilt and it's either an i7 12700k or a Ryzen 9 5900x; and honestly I don't know; Windows support basically will make or break my decision. I'm not fond at all of the direction the OS is headed with monetizing the user more than Windows 10 already was (and at least that you can surely mitigate), but Alder Lake's scheduler is still messy in Linux, and I want to try it, but I do have to keep Windows for some things I need.
Basically, I might have my hand forced to use Windows 11 if the issues with the E-cores on Alder Lake aren't fixed yet. Slight frustration on my end. but I didn't know where to put it; I only want to avoid AMD because the socket probably only has a year or two left, but who knows. The whole "ads in Windows Explorer" rubbed me the wrong way, very badly.

My girlfriend makes us burgers a couple of times a week, and despite how simple it is, it's one of my favorite foods to eat. Genuinely my favorite burgers to have, I'll take pictures the next time she makes them!

Bested a 55ms; I'll take it. Otherwise I'm staying around 130.
Should work on it given how much I play rhythm games, but my setup isn't exactly the best right now.

I usually just vent about this to people in my life, but eh, why not dump a bit here. Will spoiler health stuff as I can since it can be a bit detailed.
SpoilerI have a bunch of health issues due to medical neglect by family members growing up, and due to that I've developed really bad arthritis in my whole body as well as a frequency to get sick; last night absolutely sucked in that regard. Partner had to help me get food and water because I couldn't get out of bed due to the pain I was in. It was honestly one of the worst nights I've ever had, and it wasn't helped by the fact the pain made me horribly nauseous. Kinda hate that I'm currently in a place where I have to be dependent on someone to make sure I make it through some of my worst days. At the very least, I have a cane to move around.
In another way, I feel in a weird way that I'm too young to have this happen to me; I'm 22 and my health is awful to the point I've been actively gaslit by my parents that I cut off recently because they weren't being healthy. Had a therapist do the same, but at least my blood work proves something is messed up in that front. At the very least, I'm not overdoing myself every single day like I was when I was living with my mother; silver lining
.
also sad that DIA didn't have anymore than 4 things of carbonara but that's me just liking that stuff way too much -
Do cat ears count? Because I got cat ears. Nyan. (and some peach ice tea)

Walked to the supermarket nearby yesterday, and didn't realize that Sahara Dust is going on over here in Europe (first time experiencing it since moving here), and it just looked like it rained mud on every single car in the area. Lungs are hella sensitive, so the sand (or whatever the hell was in the air here) was irritating my nose and hurting my lungs.
Note to self: don't go out when the air quality is like this. No idea how people weren't wearing respirators outside honestly, but maybe I'm just not used to it.

I'm currently maining Waterfox for convenience reasons, but I'll probably jump over to Librewolf in the near future, or another one; I've grown attached to forks of Firefox; kind of tired of seeing Chromium forks and Blink as an engine literally everywhere.

Some form of a VR Headset; as much as I'd like to see what VR is like, it isn't going to happen since I have really bad health issues and I need a cane to walk around for the most part outside the house. Autoimmune conditions + arthritis don't make it fun.
On another note, maybe another phone with an active custom rom community? I currently daily an Xperia 1 and there really aren't any roms for it from digging around.
Realistically, if there's anything within reach I can get right now, it's DIA's entire stock of carbonara pasta; that stuff is really good and quick to cook.

Ready to get more ads on you computer? Microsoft's software engineeers ain't finished make Win 11 better, LOOL
Microsoft is back with ads in File Explorer on Windows 11
Many Windows 10 users may remember ads in File Explorer. Microsoft used to show them at some point of time, but eventually abandoned this idea. It looks like the Redmond software giant is again tinkering with this feature in the upcoming version of Windows 11, version 22H2.
The company is exploring all possible ways to increase its revenue from Windows. For instance, the recently added Clipchamp app, while aimed to be the app like Windows Movie Maker, is completely useless unless you pay for extra features.

Did you see this trailer from a couple days ago? I think the "mouthful mode" is pretty hilarious.
It's absolutely beautiful, and silly, and also adorable. Basically, Kirby in a nutshell, which is all I wanted.

Personally, I'm staying on Win10 just out of a lack of interesting features/updates in Win11 and that Win10 is supported for a few more years.
That's my hope to do for the time being, given LTSC 2021 has been good to me so far, but I'm looking to switch back over to full-time Linux again given I finally got a proper install set up. I could switch over now, but I wouldn't have some key games I play ready, so that's my problem (it's really just Phantasy Star Online 2, but still, that's my one thing holding me back at this point).
Given I don't usually have persistent OS installs (I keep my data disposable courtesy of a good connection and a second data drive), I can easily dump an OS install at a moment's notice if need be. It's usually why I can't stay on one Windows version for a long, long time. I just need something new sometimes. -
I just repasted my main system with NT-H2, but I also have a tube of Arctic MX-5 laying around; haven't used it so I can't say much on it yet.

I have a soft spot for Kirby Air Ride, and realistically, any Kirby games. Who doesn't love a cute squishy pink ball who is wholesome and wants cakey?
In terms of other games, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a guilty pleasure; Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, while being an MMO, is also on that list; I'm a sucker for rhythm games so I could go into what I like and dislike in a whole different thread on that.-

Same. Love the 'mini' size leaps and bounds over my iPhone 11 or 7 Plus. Nearly identical to the iPhone 6 I still have and use for motorcycle trips. I use a magnetic Pop-Socket for various mounting. First phone I've had with an Otterbox case with working magnetic ring (strong) that still wirelessly charges at full speed!
I've wanted to try the "mini" versions of iPhones due to the fact my hands are small and I struggle to reach the joysticks on an Xbox 360 controller; the Xperia is just giant in my hands, kind of amusing (and disappointing to type one-handed).

As a VMware guy, I can't speak to VirtualBox but I can say that I've used various versions of Ubuntu and Linux Mint in VMware Workstation and never had an issue with "snappiness". VMware Workstation has supported GPU acceleration in Linux guests for a while now, and I remember noticing when they added it that it definitely helps with desktop responsiveness. The code (kernel modules, etc.) is open source so many major distros include it in-box. If they do not, you can look for an "open VM tools" package for said distro and install that. (This package should also provide things you'd expect like copy/paste synchronization between host and guest. You should not have to run the script that VMware provides that tries to compile VMware Tools.)
As you probably know, VMware Workstation has a paid "pro" version, and also a "free" version ("VMware Workstation Player"). I do have the pro version so I'm not that familiar with the limitations of the free "Player" version — does it still not allow you to create/edit VMs, only run them? If that's the case, I can let you in on a "trick". Grab a trial version of VMware Workstation Pro and it will install both "Pro" and "Player" (as separate apps on the Start Menu). Even after the trial expires, you can use "Pro" to create and manage VMs. It doesn't actually give you an error about needing a license until you try to run a VM. You can just run the VMs in "Player".
Can second this; VMWare seems to work really well for Linux VMs, although if you're on Windows and have access to it, Hyper-V might be a good alternative (if you can get it to work with that, haven't used it much and can't say).
I'd say if you're gonna be running it in a VM, maybe start with something Debian-based, like Ubuntu or Mint. Fedora may not be a bad option as well; it's fairly fleshed out and stable from what I can tell.

My current Linux gaming problems literally revolve around Sega using nProtect GameGuard for Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis since it's the main game I currently play; anything else I touch works in Linux either with tweaks or out of the box.
Maybe it'll get enabled somehow with the Steam Deck now being officially released, but I won't hold my breath. At the very least, Linux is nice for the couple of rhythm games I actively play because it's so low latency when using Pipewire.
goddamn it etterna why do you cap download speeds in Linux
