Unfortunately, looks like this card have not only sowtware problem. Yesterday I look closer and found cracked corner on crystal. small, but visible. It can be cause of this glitches?

One small problem, MSI afterburner not support undervolt for my 1070. I enable all necessary settings in options, but anyway voltage is inactive. =(

Do it, yesterday it looks like help. But I just some decrease frequences for core and memory, but don't touch voltage. Today again this problem with bsod, already with started msi afterburner and lower frequences. Maybe, also need to decrease voltage, but I don't know exact numbers. And it's possible cause of problem potential phisical damage crystal of videochip? I don't see any scratches or crackles, but who knows. In idle (browser, messengers, music on youtube) all good, but just start game, even not really heavy - 20-30 sec and bsod. Yesterday all work fine =(

It's something very strange with this MSI GeForce GTX 1070. I think, maybe problem in drivers. I today fully replace CPU, GPU and other card part with honeywell liquid termal pads and paste. Temperature is real cool, even without forced coolers. BUT, only I start any game or run adobe photoshop - 30 sec and I see YELLOW bsod screen VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE nvlddmkm.sys, and temperature even not run real higher. In game before bsod I hear problem with sound (distortion, other noise) and freezes, but sometimes enough just start game. What to do in this situation? I already add more delay for TDR in register (8 sec instead 2), it's won't help. I try ro install and mode last version of drivers (572.42) (of course, remove previous with DDU in safe mode) - the same. I try to install version 425.31, also modded. in hardware support on NVCleanstall few options for 1070 (1BE1) and nvdmi.inf, I don't know, which is correct/best - the same. The card is cold, keyboard and palmrest over even not warm, so it's 100% not overheating. Previous card owner swears by god he's don't have such problems, but he don't remember, which drivers he use. It's possible he sell me almost dead card, which give bsod even without heating, or this problem is curable? Cause I plan to stop with upgrades and modes at least on few months, but anyway stupid problems catch me.

It can be real super, great thank you. Cause it's my first m18x r2 and I haven't yet serious practical experience in hardware modding. Just in monday I have one intermediate exerience with msi gtx 1070 with left custom cutted nv100w heatsink for "ear" place (it's give me possibility also check idea with one card in left mxm slot and plastic imitation detail in right slot) and also change my 3630 cpu to 3940xm with three pipes heatsink, so it can be interesting and very "funny".

Can you, please, tell me some more detailed about heatsink modification and mxm slot modification, it's real to DIY? Dell X-brackets I have even two from dead 880m cards.

About slots. This last notebook (m18x r2) I buy with 2 ati cards, so have ati100w heatsinks, from my previous m18x r1 I have right (longer one) nv100w heatsink. And I dont remember, where's left nv heatsink. If I understand correct, difference only in open copper space for videochip. So previously I must insert radeon 7970 to left slot and gp106 to right slot. They both was visible in bios and work even in legacy mode, BUT main card was this significantly weaker and older 7970 and nvidia control panel even don't start, show message "this monitor don't connect to gpu". So idea use gp106 card as 3d accelerator don't work. And even worse, notebook begin to shut down after 10-15 sec from start. I don't know, why. So I remove 7970 card from first slot and left only gp106 in right slot. I can't move to left, cause not sure, if ati heatsink normally and effective work with nvidia card. And with this one card begin problems, which start this thread. I know, this card is working, and don't understand, why bios don't want to see. Maybe, it's necessary to put strictly to left mxm slot, if you have one card?

Wow, so, I make uefi, reinstall win10 ) atm, bios anyway don't want to see discrete card, I choose SG mode in advanced settings, it's won't help. And more interesting, windows now don't want to install integrated intel 4000 video driver, I try to install intel hd graphic driver from dell site - installer tell me, don't found compatible devices. driver booster also agree about "base windows videodriver" it's correct )

Guys, I'm already a little shocked with the laptop and all this. Tell me, please, how to run ONE discrete video card + integrated video card on the M18x r2? Everywhere on the Internet it is written as if this is a self-evident matter and it cannot be otherwise. I inserted an ATI Radeon 7970 + GP106 cards into the laptop, the integrated video card was disabled in the BIOS, ATI GFX + Nvidia GFX are seen, in Windows "standard Microsoft video adapter" and "3d video accelerator" in the unidentified devides. I installed modded drivers through NVCleanstal, assigned the GeForce GTX 1060 card, Windows agreed with this, installed drivers for the Radeon, they also started good. But the Radeon is first on the list, and when I try to run the Nvidia control panel, it writes an error that "this monitor is not connected to the GPU". That is, all control was pulled by weak Radeon and it was not possible to assign GP106 as a video card for data processing. Plus, for some reason, it worked a couple of times, and then it started to turn off when loading Windows. The laptop starts normally, but turns off after 10 seconds. I took out the Radeon card, left only GP106, it is definitely working, checked, before that I had it in M17x r3, where it was immediately recognized in the BIOS and worked perfectly in conjunction with the Intel 3000 integrated graphics. Tell me, how can I do something similar on this laptop? So that the integrated graphics work, and the discrete graphics card runs for programs and games? At this stage, when there is only one card, and nothing in the second slot, it is not displayed in the BIOS, only the integrated graphics card and two empty discrete graphics card slots. But I can't overcome this joke with the card. In Windows, when you press fn + F7, it displays a GFX window and offers to reboot, I do it, but nothing happens, the card is still not detected in the BIOS, only integrated. What I do wrong?

Hi, mates. Write this topic with sadness. Just buy this m18x r2, with dead videocards, as seller tell me. Notebook work fine, have i7-3630 onboard and A14 bios. I think, I replace cards, which left in notebook even with crossfire cable to gtx 670, but notebook don't see discrete card, I try my p106, the same, change slot - also zero. Check cards from notebook in my m17 r3, both fine working hd 7970 w gb ddr5. So I buy notebook with 2 working cards and both dead mxm slots. I think, maybe I need unlocked bios to see cards, so download A11 unlocked bios from techinferno, make freedos flash drive via rufus, so bios write normal. Of course, mxm cards anyway don't see, and I make mistake, change preferences of integrated videocard in unlocked stash, add memory, and change resolution to fullhd. After rebooting I receive black screen, first couple times I hear 2 beeps, then 7 beeps, (memory and cpu) then left only 7 beeps. I try to disconnect adapter wire, remove battery and puch power button 1 minute, try to return bios to default settings. It's don't work, I try all solutions from dell official site, and today I try last solution to remove cmos battery from mainboard to 10-15 min, it must guaranteed reset bios settings. But no, I accurate put battery back to slot, try to start notebook, keyboard and power button light 2 sec, then notebook power off to 2 sec, then start again, light 2 sec and power off again. Nothing on display, no beeps or something, just on,off,on, off. Maybe somebody previously heard about something like this? I try to remove battery and start without, have the same result absolutely. Usual, as I remember, battery error was 5 beeps, in my case nothing. Would be very appreciated for for any help, ideas, solutions and previous experience, positive or negative.

I have unlocked A12, open tons of various options and preferences, but just try to change display mode from SG to PEG = black screen till bios hard reset.

But m17xR3 don't support PEG anyway.

But I was close, I even start this games, but very slow ) I also have M18x R1, try your method, ssj92, with GF 560m and something like rtx 2060, but I have dead battery, and not sure, if my bios is unlocked.

Thank you, mate, I try few other versions of drivers, still the same. And I see one strange thing, I check settings in nvidia control panel and see DX12 now used and card have 12.1 support too. But not in games. It's enough new card, 2019 year, and it's server version GP106 with 4gb memory instead 6gb, like normal 1060. I ask man, which make the same and sell similar M17x R3 with such card on ebay, he answer, my solution is the best possible way, and he also can't find, how to work this card with DX!2. But I'm not sure, it's enough new card for DX12, even server version.

Hello again, friends. I make this switch in register using the method described by ssj92. Anyway in nvidia control panel I choose "high performance nvidia processor" option, so DX11 games run perfectly, but DX12 games not. I delete driver with DDU and make another modded drivers based latest "561.09-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-nsd-dch-whql" drivers, and take NVIDIA GeForce 1060 GTX as donor for hardware support via NVCleanstall. After install card as usual, in nvidia control panel card name is "Nvidia Graphics Device" again, but games, which require DX12 and previously don't work now starts, but VERY slow, real real slow. So what's happend? This GP106 card support DX12, if use 1060 GTX base? But why so slow and bad? Maybe need other driver version? Or other card as donor in NVCleanstall, maybe? Now I return back previous version, but take quadro p3000 as donor, again DX11 games works, DX12 won't start. Maybe I missed something? Or need other version of drivers? Still need some help.

It sounds absolutely crazy, but looks like I solve question, very strange, very unreal, but fact, I check disco elysium, couple other games, games loading slow, but only till menu, I add all preferences to maximum and game run smooth and with good image. I mod this driver "425.31-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql" via NVCleanstall, with hardware support, as donor take quadro 2000 with name Nvidia GP106 4GB. Driver installed well, in nvidia control panel card name is simple "Graphics Device", almost all options are gone, but added one, which give sense for all this dances, choose preferrable graphic processor, with "high performance nvidia processor" option. In previous geforce drivers this options was unavailable. Maybe exist more pretty solution, I'm sure, more skilled and experiences alienware owners now rofl from this frankenstein, but it's, at least, work ))))

Hello, friends, I now in battle with server/mining card GP106 4gb (analog GeForce GTX 1060 6gb, but cropped and without video outputs). Use unlocked A12 bios in my M17x r3, card is visible, but cannot run in PEG, return black screen and 6 beeps, after bios reset run only in SG. Also use last version of modded nvidia drivers with Nvcleaninstall, in Windows 10 pro and GPU-Z card displayed like NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, but in NVIDIA Inspector, GeForce experience and Nvidia control panel card is visible like NVIDIA graphics device and games run under intel HD graphics 3000. Fn+F7 show me message about switching card, but not suggest reboot and anyway use intel 3000. After manual disabling this driver in windows until reboot this GP106 card is try to use, but VERY slow, nothing similar like must be and all options is blocked. AIDA64 pass GPGPU test and also see 3d accelerator like must be. Maybe somebody have experience with such card with this notebook and can help me to make this card working?

Hello, people. I have Alienware M18x R1 and a week ago my second 800m card died. I'm live in Ukraine, and now it's hard enough to buy something from ebay or amazon. But I find few nvidia quadro m3000m and m4000m in reasonable price with the same mxm 3.0b slot. But I'm not sure, if this cards fit to my R1. Maybe somebody have any positive (or negative) experience with such cards and exact 2011 m18x R1 notebook? Cause I know, to R2 fit almost any cards, but it's not my case.
