I did not touch the cmos battery, I managed to fix it by disconnecting the laptop battery cable and reconnect back. The dock error message was gone. Not sure what this has to do with laptop battery... i did disconnect the battery before that to replace the heatsink for cleaning. My place is too dusty until i have to buy 1 set of full heatsink assembly for fast replacement. I can slowly clean the fan fin by fin later.

In order to reset bios, is disconnecting the cmos battery the only option? it looks like the battery is not accessible with just opening the bottom case. Do i really need to remove everything including the mainboard just to do disconnect a small cable?? seems ridiculous, can anyone confirm this? Thanks. I run into problem of bios warning something "cannot run more multiple dock station simultaneously...." in a sudden for a dock station that i hv been using for almost 2 yrs. The only solution seems to be resetting the bios.

Precision 7720 LCD screen replacement
iieeann replied to iieeann's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
Many thanks for the information. I have ordered the same lcd panel to make sure it works. external display has no problem. Even if the graphic card fails, i still have the old original P3000 as backup. -
Hi, My 7720 LCD has started to show artifacts, again, after warranty claim 3 years ago. It looks like the LCD screen lifespan is 3-4 years only. It is a 4k non touch screen, 40 pins. Is there a compatible 1920x1080 LCD that will fit in? it seems like FHD screen is using 30pins, not sure if there is 40pins type for 7720.

Seems like someone has tried with the new BE201 CNvio3 on 7680 but without driver. https://community.intel.com/t5/Wireless/Intel-Wifi-7-BE201-driver-download/m-p/1621538 He mentioned the device shown up under device manager. Whether a correct driver will make it work or not is unknown. Earlier when i tried BE200 on 7780 it was not detected at all nothing appeared. Not sure from where he got the card, i can't find it yet in the market.

Defective Intel 13th and 14th generation CPUs
iieeann replied to DirtJezus's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
So far no, but i have not loaded the system in most cases. Heard that desktop cpus are the main target. Precision laptops both CPU & GPU are usually castrated version, unable to run at full load with limited power so it is unlikely to be affected. -
Has anyone ever tried to push out the fan blades for easy cleaning? 7780 fan blades are too many and close to each other difficult to reach. Dry cleaning like brushing or air gun will not work for me due to too much dust that stick on the blades. I need to use wet flat button bud to clean the blades piece by piece, where both fans will take more than 1 hour to clean. Just because of this reason i have bought from aftermarket another complete set of heatsink with fans to replace directly for use, and slowly clean the dirty one later. My place need fan cleaning every 3 months. Most of the fan blades can be taken out for cleaning, some are pretty easy to push out like intel NUC. For laptop fan, from the outlook i really can't tell whether it is removable type or not. Trial and error always ends up with either working or broken fan.

Ouch... how about the WWAN slot, will NVME wifi card work on it? Since nvme ssd works with that wwan slot.

Are u sure Clevo has 3 slots? past few years i have been following them and only 2 slots offered at top models.

My bad in my earlier post, Lenovo does offer full keyboard with P16 Gen2. Earlier i was looking at P1 gen6.
-
Keyboard still miserable layout? lol... Kinda strange, Lenovo insists on keyboard without Numpad. Only HP has dedicated pgup pgdn home end keys but a bit far from ctrl key which ctrl+home/end is a common combination; up/dn arrow keys still tiny type. All 3 big companies are not looking from ergonomic point of view. I hate Dell keyboard, but since i am using external setup 90% of the time, i can still live with that. I hope Dell maintains the 4x m.2 slots design, this could be by far the laptop with most m.2 slots in the world, i used up all of them + the wwan slot.

Are the Precision 7780 fans loud?
iieeann replied to James_uk's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
oic, nowadays integrated card is acceptable. About the long boot, precision series is the highest grade business laptop for consumer, rich with the security features. next grade after this might be military grade. The laptop needs to initialize many things during boot, causing the long delay. I have not researched on how to disable those features to fast boot it. -

Dell won't sell this laptop without dedicated graphic card, u need to choose the cheapest card to get it. the heatsink will not be the same as higher grade card, u will need to look for heatsink separately if u were to buy better graphic card later. This laptop boot 10 times longer than consumer laptop. If u are fine with that then it is ok. I simply hate it, I have an XPS side by side, open the lid and windows logon will appear in few seconds. 7780 is 1 min. The laptops are from complete shutdown, i am anti sleep/hibernate. The heat does not come from GPU, but majority from CPU. if u want quieter, choose slower CPU. -

iieeann replied to James_uk's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
it can be loud under load, and quiet at light work. Anyway noone buy this laptop just for light work. It has similar power profiles selection. If Internal graphic is enabled, the likelihood of noise is slightly lower. When discrete graphic card is in active, the noise is back to the same. If internal graphic is disabled, the laptop has higher chance to become noisy. Battery life is terrible even with light work, will not last more than 1 hr. -
Anyone here using Dell TB4 dock or upgraded TB3>TB4 dock? I am having strange SSD speed drop problem. sequential big file read/write dropped to 200MB/s from 3000MB/s. This happened after sometimes (about 20min) in windows. Right after boot the speed is normal, when exactly it dropped i do not measure. Weird enough, when the speed is slow, using Crystal Disk Mark to test everything is normal at 6000-7000MB/s, but in actual file copy the speed is only 200MB/s. I use a SN850X and 990 Pro to copy to each other to test the speed. I have old TB3 Dock at another place and i observed no SSD speed drop issue actual file copy speed is ~3000MB/s. I do not know how to explain this, and I am not absolutely sure if this is Dock issue, but since the laptop is the same unit and this happened only when i am using upgraded TB4 dock, I suspect the dock could be the problem. How an external dock can affect internal SSD transfer speed i really cannot imagine. I like to challenge the limit of the laptop and hardwares, so i used to experience various type of funny issues.

If the mouse doesn't work, it should not be the reason of making u a loss in business. Just get a spare mouse that's it. If there is no spare mouse, there are many types of mouse u can buy from the road side with just a few $, wired, wireless, bluetooth etc. If all mice failed, this is obviously software problem and a simple OS restore should fix it. Worse comes to worst just reinstall windows and get the system back in 1 or 2 hours.

If u want performance then u should not have chosen business laptop. It has too many security features that make the laptop to boot slower than tortoise. It has the best hardwares with performance being locked, something like having a Ferrari engine but only can use up to 4th gear. Security and stability is the utmost concern in this laptop, it cannot afford to crash. Any attempt to challenge the stability is not going to be entertained. I chose this laptop simply because it is more presentable in business environment. Gaming laptop has bad habit of alien look and not suitable for business meeting or presentation. If there is such a gaming laptop with classic look i will definitely go for it. Clevo used to have more classic look gaming laptop, but no more nowadays. Business laptop will make people think that i am doing works, the focus look on my face will make my colleagues think I am serious on business subject; although all the while i am using it only to play games or open nonsense websites. It is a good camouflage for me.

7720 CPU is soldered on board, very difficult to upgrade. e3-1535m v6 is already the highest possible cpu for 7720.
