Hmm... i have a 2-year old XPS 9310 laptop, boot into windows 11 login real fast in 2-3sec after shutdown. Hibernate disabled. On 7780, without 3rd party app installed, it spins around 10s to boot into windows 11 login. My old 7720 took even longer than that and i thought that is because of old machine, but this new laptop is also the same. Is that the way a workstation needs to behave?

Thanks for explanation. I see in CAMM module the memory speed keep sliding down from 5600Mhz at 32GB to 3600Mhz at 128GB, but with Sodimm non-ECC it is 5600Mhz all the way. I wonder if it is the limitation of the CAMM connector speed? If so will sodimm 5600Mhz be 'downgraded' to lower Mhz in actual running. i i have requested Dell to quote for 32x2 and see what is the difference in price. Dell's memory price is exceptionally high, if the new price is higher than i go buy new 32x2 from road side corridor corner stall, then i might as well just leave it first.

Just placed an order for 7780, an upgrade from my existing 7720. For 6 years I am hoping to see some changes but there is not much. I still don't prefer the keyboard layout with tiny up/down arrow keys without dedicated pgup/pgdn & volume control keys; components not running at maximum speed because of undersized power supply; no 2.5/5/10 GBE on laptop/dock my 13-yr old NAS is 10GBE. However i love the pro support, almost everything in 7720 has been replaced over the years including accidental damage. 10yr old power brick still can be used on new precision. About the RAM, is it only 2 sodimm slots available in 7780? I look for 32x1 GB but the sales rep said the system returned error with such selection and i ended up with 16GBx2 and thinking of adding another 2pc later. However with interposer, it seems like only max 2 sodimm?
-
Yes you are right. the Sales rep is able to get the WWAN option after selecting 1920x1080 LCD. So the only option left for me is either to get 4k LCD and get after market antenna & cable (extremely rare); or get 1080p with antenna and change the lcd to 4k later (waste of $$). another option is just use hotspot or mobile modem 😆

@Dell-Mano_G Hi, I have some questions about 7780:- 1. Back cover SSD opening, this option is not seen in US dell website but found at Australia dell, is it really available in 7780? 2. MY local dell said the WWAN option is not available. Will the 4 antenna cables be provided if purchase without WWAN card? 3. Sodimm is not found in US dell, but available in Australia. Is Sodimm option available now from the start? MY local dell only offers CAMM. 4. ECC ram is mentioned in 7780 spec sheet, but seems like not available everywhere ? I am from MY, precision laptop is not listed at all in local Dell website and have to special order with sales rep so i can't see available customization options. Thanks.

I have a 13.3" Latitude 5310. After about 2 yrs (no more warranty), everytime startup the laptop will prompt "Service Tag has not been programmed". By clicking continue i can boot into windows. I go into bios and key in the Service Tag the same way as buying new Dell mainboard. After pressing enter/apply, upon next booting the same message pop out again. Is it because the service tag is not accepted, or something wrong with bios that cannot hold Service Tag data? I can't update bios to latest version (in windows) due to no Service Tag so the update will refuse to proceed. Please advise on how to overcome this, thanks.

7760/7770 are seriously under power because of 240W brick and miserable heat dissipation design . GPU max 165W + CPU max 157W = 322W. Precision CPU works at lowest 55W so there is no way the CPU can perform up to rated max Ghz. Consumer is spending lots of money to buy laptop that only performs at 70% performance. Throttling is definitely going to happen with only dual fans design. 330W + 4 fans with thicker and bigger case is the only way to get maximum performance. 17" Precision series used to be highest grade performance non-compromised workstation, but it is not the case now. In fact no other workstation is able to do so nowadays (HP/Lenovo etc). Precision now aims for "stability" only.

Not sure if this HX batch has fixed the spectec v2 issue. Later on if firmware patch will impact the performance.

Precision M6800 questions and upgrades
iieeann replied to Jers6410's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
I have a nearly max M6800, but i can't remember how much it costs me, i bought it piece by piece from many shops and assemble. 4940MX and P5000 32GB 1866 ram (corsair). Not using it anymore let my primary school child to do online class and play minecraft/roblox game. AMD heatsink will not work for nvidia card, u need to buy new heatsink that works for nvidia. Plus some custom thickness cooling pad for the graphic card chips, unless you are buying the stock K5000m. One of the reasons I am not using the M6800 is because of over the years, the palm surface and above the keyboard area coating has degraded/melted and become sticky and dirty. It is not removable using alcohol and I don't know what solvent will work for plastic. Another reason is the ever noisy fan because of MX cpu. Flextronic made Dell 240W PSU too, no such thing as non original. M6800 mostly eDP if not mistaken, seldom see LVDS. too long ago can't remember. If want touchscreen only LDVS is available. I don't care about unlocked bios because the fan is already noisy with stock MX cpu. Even my earlier M6700 with XM cpu is not that noisy. -
Why so miserable only two m.2 slots, why? Others are ok.

The new 7770 will not have 240W charging thru USB-C 😔. The new dock WD22TB4 also rather disappointing, no USB4, still with miserable 1GBE, still 130W power output. The expectation to eliminate 1 cable when connecting to dock will not happen in this generation. This is understandable, by the time 240W charging standard is announced last year, Dell might have been at final stage of designing this coming generation.

Of course it works, I have them working perfectly with 240W brick, directly to laptop and also dock station. Works with smaller laptop too.

Still 7 series? that means the lousy keyboard layout and without independent power button will continue zzz... I hope the LAN port is a full port without spring jaw. Simply stupid and the port hook will stuck when taken out. Anyway from the pic it seems the LAN port is still spring jaw type at upper left of the laptop zzz... I hope the audio port is moved to left side or upper portion from current idiot location. I hope 240V USB-C charging is implemented while still keeping the power jack. I hope GAN charger is given so that i can no longer kill people with current brick. I hope better cooling is designed rather than slimming the laptop. The pic's bottom case suggest bigger vent i think (?) I hope bottom cover can be opened easily like earlier 7 series. 7760 is simply stupid. I believe the design must have been completed by now. Let us see what 7770 will bring us.

The new cpu architecture looks interesting, but usually next generation cpu will be more refined, but that will mean next year. For me if i get this coming precision, it will last me until when TB5 is available.
