  1. which one is it? There doesnt appear to be one specific to indexing and finding files via that way.
  2. Hi everyone, I am just curious, has anyone successfully used windows driver verifier with LTSC? I was reading up on it and from the looks of it, it can potentially crash and lock one out of their PC, if not brick the thing, which kind of makes me a little leary of using it. Still, the thought of getting out some deep bugs or finding issues that are related to that is appealing, since its almost never used and not often known even. Here is just some information on it. Driver Verifier - Windows drivers | Microsoft Learn really, I am just trying to figure out how to make this thing as stable and well performing as I can. So whether its this, or maybe some debugger, I am open to what you have to say. Now, someone told me lately that when it comes to Chipset drivers, you want to touch those as little as possible. Granted I can get that, but being the nvidia guy I am, driver updates and bugs are common place and often times just a crap shot. Take here for instance these AMD chipset drivers which I use, they release a new one as often as every 3 months, so what might that tell you? Just click previous drives for instance here. AMD Ryzen™ and Athlon™ Mobile (Chipset) Drivers & Support | AMD I dont know why AMD updates so often, while for intel its every year or more.
  3. Alright, I tried the stuff but wasnt particularly liking of it. Either A7000 or Laird 607 works far better.
  4. Alright thanks. For me it just seems to random not work at all, or switches to classic instead of enhanced, so I am not sure what to do. It usually works fine otherwise, though I think it might also be latest updates. And this is on LTSC of all operating systems... this said, is there perhaps some way to get indexing to work right?
  5. Thank you, how would you say it compares to power toys or opus directory?
  6. Of all the issues I consistently have with windows, the indexing feature seems to always falter the most. Anywhere from not finding a file next to another, to it completely stop working one day with no apparent reason why with no settings changed in it. Hell, even at times if I am typing into it, it will literally stop accepting input and cease to work. Any suggestions? I am in LTSC 2021 IOT. Is there maybe some 3rd party program that does better? Or is there a way to have indexing work properly? I keep setting it to enhanced, giving it all the time to build index, with nothing lmportant left out of indexing, and it usually works fine, but I dont know. Maybe it was a latest update, but I have found it to not work well even if updates where not an issue.
  7. I am hoping someone can help me, but I installed W10 LTSC 2021 on my new device, and when I was trying to sign in, it wouldnt let me sign in via my normal email that I sign into normal windows with, I think it was wanting a corporate email or something official looking as I dont remember its exact wording, so I just installed with a local offline account. Forgive my ignorance on this matter, but how do I diagnose this? Among other things, it was not accepting my LTSC key, which I am not sure what to make of it as the key seller has worked quite well for me a number of times in the past. Is there some way to tell if my key is wrong, or if I just screwed up the installation? I did the ISO via rufus and selected the "no telemetry" option for it. What am I missing? Update: Okay, after some digging, it seems that aftermarket "Grey" keys only work on 3rd party ISO LTSC installation methods, rather then just using a key from an installation of official MS evaluation upgrade as is typical with W10 pro/home, etc. Can anyone recommend a good 3rd party iso for this since I cannot get a non-evaluation iso from microsoft? or what do your recommend?
  8. I am curious, has anyone tried W11 IOT 2022? There are two IOT W11's out, however does the current dismay to W11 apply to them? Given that most dont talk about them I am not sure.
  9. Hey just out of curiousity, You went with IOT 2021, did you ever run into issues with IOT specifically? I get they are basically the same as none IOT, but if theres something I should look for with IOT, it would be nice to know.
  10. Okay thats what I am going to try. Every other tutorial said I have to do it from an ISO file, but if a normal self extracting USB formatted drive works for this, then I am will go right for that.
  11. I am curious, can I install LTSC 2021 from a standard USB installation media, enter LTSC 2021 key and it goes from there? Or does LTSC have some special way of doing this? The videos I have seen all have it show up as an option to install, but I dont recall if thats before or after you input the key. I am sorry but I dont recall as I only do this like every 4 years or so. I dont know how many of you do it, installing windows every month or something.
  12. Oh awesome. You might try disabling memory compression if you have alot of ram, as that is known to cause problems with programs. I am curious, what windows are you using? I am thinking about W10 LTSC 2021, though I am trying to figure out why its only being supported to 2027, while LTSC 2019 is being supported till 2029.
  13. What where the results of the win 11 tests compared to LTSC 2021? What are these tweaks you speak of? I will be honest, I rarely upgrade and dont much get into this as much as I used to, so i love reading up these things, preferably with real tests.
  14. Does that include W11 enterprise? I hear the most bugs about W11, but not much on enterprise.
  15. People here often like to talk the most about W10 2019 LTSC, is the performance/reliability gain truly that much? Or would regular W11 enterprise or W10 enterprise not much better? I would think disabling telemetry, app store, etc. wouldnt be that difficult with the later 2, and I am really interested in the later two for long support and feature updates that I would only really need once or twice a year. Among other things, I am concerned about all the bugs with W11.
  16. I am just curious, I will be using enterprise soon, and I am curious if you can comment on windows 10 vs W11 enterprise. I get that the LTSC is the most popular here for reliability and performance, but aside from the negatives of that one, I at least get control of updates with enterprise. No one seems to know much about W11 enterprise, you mess around with it much? I keep what I have for years, so going to W11 sooner then later doesnt seem like a bad Idea, but I am curious what insight you have.
  17. Hello Notebook Talk Laptop heatsinks are known for their low pressure in mounting, and quality of thermal pads can vary, and in the interest of longevity an performance of vrm's, mosfets, and vram, what pads and methods work well for this? From what I have seen, some OEM's perfer a long strip across a section of the vrm's, mosfets, and vram that covers the entire portion of it, while other OEM's and models do that same thing, with the exception now being the vram, which is covered now by a small individual piece of thermal that covers something like 2/3 of the area of the vram chip. I assume in covering only about 2/3 of the vram chip, that a stiffer pad is being used, while a softer pad is used for the mosfets and vrm's, I assume someone here has this down to a good science, given the low mounting pressure and specific pad types, and staying with what is already on the machine isnt a bad idea, though quality control and longevity and performance is usually whats in question. Its not hard to replace them either, at least compared to say a LM job, but I am looking for input on this.
  18. Having looked more into enterprise, I am curious, why are people here specifically interested in LTSC versions of W10 Enterprise, instead of standard enterprise? Other options are also W11 Enterprise, which no one here seems to have talked about, which I would be curious if anyone can chime in on. Keys for them are very cheap curiously. So from what I have read, LTSC gets feature updates for longer, but left often, something like twice a year for regular enterprise, and one every 2 to 3 years on LTSC? If push came to shove and I wanted more feature updates, could I just go from enterprise regular to LTSC 2021 to have support to 2029? Is there by chance some performance or reliability gain or loss with either of these additions? I would imagine either addition of enterprise would get quality updates instead of some that would leave me figuring out solutions. Just to clarify, both have telemetry disabled, yes?
  19. Alright, I missed that portion. Thanks for pointing it out. The only reason I was interested in LTSC 2019 is because users here are saying it performs better and is more stable, however if 2021 has those updates that only certain programs can work on, then I might as well stay with that one, unless there is some serious reason to downgrade my current windows and go with LTSC 2019 over LTSC 2021? To my understanding, one can downgrade service pack, either by a reinstallation, or other means but I have never tried that. The only reason I bring that up is because LTSC 2019 seems to be the most liked here if you can comment on that. On the topic of performance, it used to be that many users in the old forum that is now gone, always recommended doing a fresh installation from a formatted drive as for whatever reason that performed the best, and was always more stable. Can you comment on this? Or would I be fine just switching drives in the other laptop I am going to move to?
  20. I am just curious, what LTSC version generally does best, 2019, or 2021? I was going to buy a key for 2021, but if 2019 is the way to go please tell me. Out of curiousity, are there any problems to be expected if one wants to move drives to another computer and upgrade to enterprise from there?
  21. to my understanding, there will be significant performance loss if this is done, with with cpu and gpu performance. Unless this is old news? At least that is what I was told in the now defunct forum from "notebook deity" members. Assuming that is not true, is there a way to make W10 pro become enterprise without a fresh install?
  22. Well thanks for the input. I am more interested however in long term performance gains of enterprise W10 as I do not upgrade often, and I keep hearing how enterprise will offer that, among other things I only upgrade if there is some good reason as I will keep a piece as long as 5 years. I do though intend on giving away my current w11, so its not like it will be waisted.
  23. Hey everyone, its been awhile, and I am asking how to do program migration because I dont do it often, and I am trying to do it across multiple drives, and all the while trying to install windows enterprise over the current W11. I have two drives, both with windows on them, and one of them I want to use on the new laptop, and the other one I put on with my old rig, but left it as is, and most programs generally worked, though a number didnt as the new windows at the time wasnt recognized. How would you get past that by the way? I am thinking I can just transfer my current drive to the new computer(a nice 980 pro), and somehow get everything back via "windows old" file that is left behind if you dont format the drive, but given that most programs dont accept running after being put on a new computer, I dont think that would work. I do have on my older drive a program called pc mover pro, but when I tried opening it, it would accept being on a new computer, so I am at a loss on how to do this, sort of literally reinstalling every program from scratch. New laptop came with a 1tb drive, so I can transfer every to that externally with a nvme enclosure, though I would really be interested in some neat trick anyone here has. This is just an off question, but is it worth it to go with windows enterprise, or is windows 11 easily modible enough to have the performance of enterprise and reliability?
  24. Hi all I am curious, is it worth making the jump to win11 at this point, or maybe stay with win10? I got a new laptop that came natively with W11 installed, but can I modify it enough practically over having to reinstall say win10? Last I recall, the enterprise edition worked the smoothest, but since I do not reinstall OS's, change drives and so forth often, I am out of touch with this scene. If there is some good TLDR thread I am not aware of, please refer me to it.
  25. I am guessing its the latest updates as I have had this happen in the past months ago, but a new windows update fixed it, but now its back again. Is there some way around this bug? I reran the indexing multiple times last time to the highest settings for both drives and it would work, so any suggestions?
