  1. it suits my needs currently, even with a single pipe the 3740qm peaks at 80c full load, or hovers around the 90s if i overclock it. still debating if i wanna run it at those temps or not (overclocking it), it should be fine since its limit is 100c but i still worry
  2. i checked mine and the screwholes are completely even and squared off, reason i question it is alot of ppl online confuse the aw 18 and m18x models
  3. ty for the link, are you sure they are the same? the screw placement on the right side looks to be off center
  4. sounds good to me, ill be keeping an eye on this thread since i do intend on upgrading my m18x to a XM chip in the future, however my current single pipe heatsink is holding me back xD
  5. even if the gains arent much, id be willing to pay the premium for extra gains and to also not let that spare fan go to waste honestly. Im sure extending the 3 pipes over to the additional radiator would help with cooling the XM chips
  6. @defcon42 as @Aaron44126 has said, the built in one doesnt change everything over, stuff like transfer windows and task manager stay white. since grey eve is a modded high contrast theme, it converts everything and doesnt need any system file modifications to work
  7. My windows setup is pretty vanilla with the exception of StartIsBack and the Grey Eve theme to make everything dark mode. startisback: https://startisback.com/ Grey eve theme (working on LTSC 2021 so i would assume the standard 21H2 works also): https://github.com/nitschis/GreyEveTheme Heres how it looks:
  8. ah sweet, do you think its feasible to make special extended length ones for those who dont use a 2nd gpu? so the cpu heatsink can take advantage of the 2nd unused gpu fan?
  9. personally i have no intention of upgrading, Win10 IoT LTSC 2021 all the way 🙂
  10. do you also intend on making CPU heatsinks? I for one have been looking around for a 3pipe heatsink for some time with little success due to how rare they are
  11. Found this picture quite some time ago on NBR and couldnt for the life of me remember who posted it, so posting this here for preservation sake. I tested these settings myself on my M18X R2 with A11 unlocked bios with great success, However due to my single pipe heatsink my cpu was in the high 80s to low 90s depending on the load. So your mileage may vary depending on your setup, its no where near what the XM chips can achieve i know but at least its something considering i was under the impression these chips were completely locked down.
  12. is the nvme adapter limited in which SSDs can be used? or will any work? (i noticed the a11 bios said support for samsung m.2 and nvme support so assumed it could be limited to just that brand)
  13. hmm zone 7 being off is weird, perhaps a theme bugged out or something. yeah that alien head is just a thing telling you that the alienfx plugin for the lights is active so thats normal, u just have to tab back to music to change songs or whatnot and then click the visualizer tab again to continue using the alienfx
  14. probably a wise idea yeah, im running the a11 unlocked bios on mine since im using a quadro p4000 gpu. Needed that to unlock the ability to force optimus mode so the gpu would work so mine has alot more options to tweak etc
  15. which bios are you running on? standard or unlocked? ive never used the rapid storage option in regards to drives (i run my system in AHCI so all drives are separate). I would assume they are initialized and have partitions already, is your machine set to boot in RAID or AHCI? perhaps that could be interfering, seems rather bizarre that it would say disabled. i take it the HDD interposer cable is working fine and doesnt have issues?
  16. what do you mean by screen visuals? if u mean the visualizer yeah you have to keep it on that screen and swap back to the library when changing music. only other thing i can think of that can bug it out sometimes is if you minimize musicbee to the taskbar, so just keep the window unminimized and tab over to something else and it should still continue to work
  17. i ordered the 1st holder you listed, i do plan on getting a soldering kit as ive also ordered the quirky butterstick keyboard. so its something ill get around to eventually xD thanks again for showing this tho, the thought never crossed my mind to do this
  18. yeah that might be a little too big, also it has 2 lots of + and - on them so not sure how that works in the grand scheme of things
  19. Figured id post this incase anyone else is interested as im sure this would apply to other models withing the mx range, but using MusicBee you can use the WMPAlienFX plugin to make the lights react to music. All thats needed is to copy the WMPAlienFXPlugin.dll from C:\Program Files\Alienware\Command Center\Media Plugin\x86 and place it into C:\Program Files (x86)\MusicBee\BBplugin After that you can select that plugin from within musicbee and then start Visualizer. There is abit of a delay of selecting the plugin and starting the visualizer but otherwise it works perfectly fine, once the plugin itself has been selected it saves it so all thats needed to use it is to start visualizer whenever you open musicbee.
  20. was gonna ask about the downgrade also, love the color. if i didnt have the nebula red color on mine id consider a custom color too. Perhaps you could put a p4000/5000 in there?
  21. yeah, i got lucky and found out that the m17x r4 uses the same keyboard but with the updated win10 key, so i grabbed a brand new greek keyboard of that (same as us layout with extra symbols). However even those are now becoming tougher to find lol
