  1. You are right. I obviously did not post that because I thought you violated the privacy policy by advertising the service here. That's not what privacy policies are about. Any other reasons you can think of?
  2. That makes sense, alas the greatest cost of gaming is the lost time, which is why I quit some time ago and we don't game. If someone can play an hour a day, great - that's reasonable, more power to them - I can't, I'm too competitive.
  3. Yeah, I've been on a lookout for one of these, but it's tricky to get right. You don't want to use this when walking if the device has no battery and needs to be tethered to the phone. Battery life sucks etc. Still, looks like it might be usable in some limited scenarios, e.g. on the public transport/planes.
  4. I never got that far, but did spend a fair amount of time. I guess it was a combination of the SciFi lore, the vast world, the climate and the complexity, and last but not least - novelty. Eventually it all became too repetitive and boring. Just couldn't afford to put in the time required to progress. The visuals became dated. Lower level PvP was a non-starter, mainly based on twinking I couldn't afford. I tried all factions, but mostly played Omni - was supposed to be the easier route. Based on that experience, I avoided WoW to prevent myself from getting sucked in. AO was relatively difficult, especially for new joiners. For people like me it was a draw, but that's no way to get 10 million or whatever subscribers. I knew Blizzard solved that problem by providing a smooth and mesmerizing experience, they definitely know how to hook people. The stories of severe WoW addiction were in the mainstream media at the time. More recently they pulled all the stops with Hearthstone, a pure slot machine-grade money grab. Valve used similar tricks in CSGO - people end up paying them hundreds if not thousands for random skin drops.... but I digress.

  6. I would assume he is keeping busy with his new 4090. Those MMORPGs he is into can get time consuming.... Brings back memories of Anarchy Online for me, the game is still going after 21, or soon 22 years.. That's quite remarkable. WoW is not far behind - some 18 years going. Just a testament of how addictive those experiences can get. Not in the usual sense. I bench new systems during config/optimisation phase (and periodically afterwards) to achieve max sustained and reliable performance over very long periods. That tends to be much harder than tuning for max scores in short benchmark runs, where you don't really care about reliability (due to the very long feedback loop). The underlying techniques are very similar though, with minor exceptions, e.g. wouldn't care about liquid nitrogen. BTW To mention the obvious: if you are into benching you should consider getting a desktop. Very few levers to play around with on a laptop.
  7. Bro @electrosoft is not available at this time, and who can blame him ;) What are the clocks and temps? Invest in a good, ideally custom, laptop cooler if you haven't already - it does help.
  8. Sounds great, you will be missed bro. Please come visit us in this beautiful - yet lately increasingly sad - universe some time... ;)
  9. China is more on the opposite site of the world from your perspective. The UK is 7 hours ahead of MT in Arizona and just 5 hours vs ET. If you could fly high enough, you could just about wave at us, or at least at the Irish :)
  10. Actually we might be able to do a little better than that. You can search for top results for your GPU (I assumed 3060 notebook), and then look at the driver versions used in top results? https://www.3dmark.com/search#advanced?test=spy P&cpuId=&gpuId=1368&gpuCount=1&gpuType=ALL&deviceType=ALL&storageModel=ALL&memoryChannels=0&country=&scoreType=graphicsScore&hofMode=false&showInvalidResults=false&freeParams=&minGpuCoreClock=&maxGpuCoreClock=&minGpuMemClock=&maxGpuMemClock=&minCpuClock=&maxCpuClock=
  11. The best driver for TimeSpy is the one which allows your GPU to produce the highest score :) That's about as accurate an answer as you will get, given that this is likely GPU model dependent. Have a good weekend everyone.
  12. Aa bit more convenient, but less sightly in a standard ATX case. Solves a non-issue, unless someone constantly plugs and unplugs PSU cables as part of their workflow (not sure who would do that).
  13. All I am hearing so far is "really incredible hackers". If you allow 3rd party software to somehow "patch" shared libraries, arbitrary applications, and the kernel in memory, which would be nuts - if an OS made actually all of that possible (BTW how do we know if any of the alleged "patching" actually happens?), I would immediately delete it. The whole thing sounds sketchy as hell due to the violation of basic modern OS design principles and for the reasons you mentioned in the last paragraph. Based on the information at hand so far, I wouldn't touch this thing with a barge pole.
  14. Yeah, you would probably need immediate massive protests, if not uprising plus some sort of solution to the PRC problem. People are waaaaay too ignorant (and/or brainswashed/terrorised/comfortable) for that to happen. Elon Musk: Artificial intelligence battle 'most likely cause' of WWIII Of course, having given us a couple of fair warnings, Elon proceeded to invest heavily in AI "to keep it under control" (translation: to win the AI war and thus achieve world dominance). Since this is a video thread - in case someone hasn't seen this:
  15. When all is said and done, I'm feeling zero urge to upgrade from K. +100Mhz for crying out loud ... Coming from 12gen or earlier would be different, especially if street prices are closer. In general this whole "collectors' edition coming in a few mnthsl time" selling tactics both Nvidia and Intel use is pretty scummy. What are they trying to do? Penalise early adopters? Induce dpuble purchase?
  16. Yes, it's possible there are some top secret advances, and the industry is actually just catching up. But even if not, honestly, I'm not sure how humanity is going to get out of the self-made deathtrap. Folks in the US will at least have some firearms to grab on their way to man the last barricades (not that they will do much against robots, but they will provide some much-needed confort).
  17. I wouldn't worry about that, the problem here is that the technology surfaced much faster than anticipated, and is based on much simpler algorithms than what had been expected. No doubt we will see quick further improvements and mind-blowing applications in the coming months alone. Jordan Peterson's prediction is that half of the universities will be bakrupt within 5 years. Musk predicted in 2022 that human intelligence will become irrelevant in 5 years, and than WWIII will be caused by progress in AI.
  18. 13900K MSRP is $589, so 18% higher MSRP for 2% extra performance :)
  19. Rest assured there will be people happy to buy this CPU, especially if they expect this to be a better binned population (which may or may not actually be the case). The product has been designed to collect the extra premium from those customers, while most people will just scratch their heads looking at this offering. It's kind of like a weird collectors edition Bluray - essentially the same movie, but nice box for $50-100 extra, and not much else really. No poster or anything. As a moderate Intel fan, I won't be reading any of the necessarily hurtful reviews of the product lol
  20. It's pretty much all there is to it. You describe what art you want generated, and boom. You can then refine or ask for other variants. ChatGPT does the same for natural and computer languages, but it goes further as the interface is fully conversational. This will turn the world upside down.
  21. UK Twitter employees in legal threat over redundancies
  22. Artists/graphics designers (of all people) are in deep trouble, other creatives and knowledge workers will soon follow, then eventually humanity will go. Kind of sad, despite all the human mess. Tech billionaires will probably hold out the longest, or end up like the guys in "Ex machina".
  23. Sounds too good to be true TBH. How can they patch software they don't have source code for?
  24. 2.5Gbps is getting pretty affordable these days, and matches up nicely with WiFi 6. Obviously only ever worth considering if there is any significant internal LAN traffic.
