  1. I'm really confused by this. Techpowerup specs claim both cards are 61mm/3slot, whereas on this video the 3090ti appears to be thinner:
  2. OK so the Force/SP ratings might not be meaningfully comparable across CPUs. The 13900K is an absolutely monstrous upgrade - I mean +30-40% multicore performance improvement over the 12900KS is insane, but obviously only worth it if the current CPU gets maxed out by whatever it's used for.
  3. Oh dear, but fair enough. I didn't realise it was so bad. Having never owned an AMD component, I'm in no position to argue. Just hoping Team Red can improve as the competition they provide is sorely needed. BTW Am I reading this right? 3090 Ti FE is about the same width (or height, depending on how you look at it) as the 4090? About 138mm.
  4. And yet, you've declared willingness to try Intel ARC? Surely that's less mature and stable. Perhaps you are not risk-averse, but are a little biased? Not saying that for no historical reason at all. Guess let's wait until Tuesday to see what they say about the 7900XTX. We can post funny Linus videos all day, but the only way to really say "FU" to Nvidia is by not giving them any money.
  5. Let's put the myth that Intel guarantees any binning with their KS products to rest My 12900KS was Force 165, unless that bad rating was somehow effected by the poor PSU.
  6. Interesting. They have been in stock in the UK for... $1400. $1170 after subtracting the handsome 20% VAT. Well, Jensen won't say no to the satisfying act of making an extra $70 sc..wing people all over the world on currency movements. Either way, looks like they have nothing to compete with against the 7900XTX but the 4090. Hope the new cards benchmark well, Nvidia deserves a beating.
  7. I guess it must be RT performance worries, or DLSS3, otherwise the 7900XTX destroys the 3090Ti on raw specs while being much more compact: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-7900-xtx.c3941 https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-3090-ti.c3829
  8. Quick question: how can Nvidia continue to charge $1100 for a 3090Ti, if a 24GB 7900XTX will retail for $999? https://store.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/store/?page=1&limit=9&locale=en-us&category=GPU,DESKTOP BTW 4090 FE not in stock in the US either..... What a joke.
  9. TBH That's a good thing. No sympathy for Apple/Google abusing their duopoly and ripping devs off.
  10. Elon Musk turns Twitter into 'hotel' for staff Hopefully work is the only hardcore activity taking place in the Twitter Hotel now... With all that stress though and given the fact that pretty much only devoted Musk cultists can be expected to remain with the company, let's be realistic...
  11. Earned is a broad term, isn't it? I imagine one may earn a return on their 401k, unless the investments plummet of course. The return may be earned by putting capital at risk. Without this mechanism, there is no point in capitalism. Crypto produced just another bubble. Yes, it has been darwinian out there, but if you believe people have the right to do what they please with their money, then there is nothing wrong with crypto investments. The idiots, the naive, and the unlucky loose money - the smarter or luckier don't. It's not all very wise, but it's not completely pointless either, if we consider the broader goals such as replacing the traditional financial system and creating an alternative to government-controlled currencies. Outright scams and Ponzi schemes should be prosecuted, rather than the perpetrators being allowed to bask in the limelight. All easier said than done apparently. It's interesting to consider why. What forces are particularly at play? A bit of a rhetorical question :)
  12. Yep. He is the founder of Cardano. A mathematician by training, an outspoken libertarian, a member of the Ethereum founding team. Somewhat unusually, he seems to be hugely driven by a grand vision of the utility blockchain can provide to the world, frequently calls out speculation, scams etc. and doesn't seem to care much about the economics of the coin itself (to be fair, he has made so much money he doesn't need to care about that). With more people like him in the field, crypto might stand a chance to achieve something good, as opposed to lining the pockets of SBFs of this world.
  13. Not remotely the same laptop but a similar simple mechanism could be at work: with a BGA AW, UV maximises performance. Without it the CPU would just thermally throttle.
  14. Feels like we are missing a thread or two from NBR. Don't actually recall if we had a random video thread, but it seems like we could use one. I am going to try and kick this off with a few words from arguably one of the most decent people crypto: One for @Mr. Fox I guess.
  15. TBH That's for the best. The Musk Man deeply cares about the waste of time on Twitter problem.
  16. This is different: there is a noticeable gap between the plug and the socket, and the resulting wobble and play were real. The mount wasn't convincingly secure. Once the plug is wrapped in electrical tape (not much, ca. 3 layers), it sits in the socket securely, although there is a tiny bit of extra play of the kind you describe. Again, TBH not ideal product delivery from Corsair, but - given the triviality of the issue - that's bearable in presence of @Mr. Fox's workaround. Most likely an problem with the specific UK C-19 cord they used in this batch. Otherwise delighted with the unit so far, apart from the stellar efficiency and basically silence, so far there is a very clear improvement of stability. I'm running RAM with a whopping 20% tighter timings with no issues (whereas before errors would show up straight away with the same settings).. The monitoring / software config is quite nice too. I'm also trying a bit of OC this time, whereas before the 13900K system was never really fully stable even on stock settings (longest uptime 2-3 days maybe). Interestingly 12900KS managed to stay stable, albeit after a long period of painful tweaking, which most likely could have been avoided. TBH I had no idea an old/poor electrical quality PSU could have such a detrimental effect on the system. I thought the whole nitpicking of voltage regulation in PSU reviews was just marketing. Now, it's early hours, will need a good couple of days to reach the final verdict.
  17. Replacement AX1600i has the same wobbly power cord connection issue, hence the discount I guess. Fortunately, with@Mr. Fox's electrical tape hack the fit is almost perfect. Thanks a lot bro. I'm going it give the unit a go, despite the poor first impression.
  18. The operative word is "should". Some actual pressure from AMD should indeed help, and a lot depends on the Data Centre demand. This could well falter given the situation in tech (although I wouldn't hold my breath just yet). We are also assuming Nvidia is capturing a decent margin on those 4080s and 4090s, but we don't know if that's actually the case.
  19. I do not wish to dampen any of your enthusiasm due to the anticipated massive Nvidia price cuts, but even with the 5%: I will believe it when I see it. There is nothing in the UK Nvidia store apart from the 3090 Ti still stuck at £1150, and even that is on and off. I don't see them reducing any prices soon. Perhaps this is specific to the Eurozone or something. Don Jensen ain't your Santa, he has a "business" to run.
  20. I wouldn't read too much into this, unfortunately. Just a minor adjustment to correct for the recently weaker dollar. Let's look out for any price cuts in the US. For now it seems that Don Jensen would rather cut throats than prices.
  21. Careful, Don Jensen would not be pleased to hear that... Listen, you will buy our new carhd, eh? You can buy one carrhd, you can buy two carrhds, it's up to you. We don't care as long as you spend a grrhand, OK? The prices are good, you understand? If you wait, the carrhds won't be so good anymore. Our new 3060 carrhd is for those who waited. All the best for your lovely family from Nvidia Family, we will be back soon.
  22. Thanks a lot for the data point and advice Bro. Good idea with the electrical tape, although in my mind it would be something worth trying when buying on a secondary market. If Corsair can't ensure a power cord fits a brand new flagship unit correctly, what else could go wrong? Or am I asking too much of the manufacturers these days lol? I should have uploaded a video to illustrate: the thing is flapping about in response to a touch with a pinky (although somehow doesn't fall out - this requires a bit of a pull, which I guess justified a QA pass, if any).
  23. Phobya Nanogrease Extreme is doing great after the same 10 days. It's one of the thicker pastes BTW. It was also previously tested in the same system and fairly severe summer conditions, over a period of many months. Zero degradation. The SYY-157 tube is in the trash now.
  24. No issues with Razer Core X. I would be surprised if Alienware came up with something substantial, after all, they want you to keep buying new laptops rather than new GPUs to use with a $300 enclosure. They killed the AGA, instead of refreshing it, for a reason.
  25. Ok, many thanks - very clear something is wrong, good thing I haven't installed this, as it could be a mechanical issue on the socket too (although less likely from what I've read so far). I've found some replacement C19 cables online but it'd be ridiculous to blindly buy one of unknown quality for a new PSU. Let's see how the replacement does. Sorry to hear. Norway is famously expensive, but strange to hear about the government cost cutting. Perhaps something will improve under the new, presumably more fiscally permissive, option....
