  1. I have never cleaned a laptop keyboard thoroughly before, only the keys themselves.

The keyboard of my old Clevo P670 is sticky in parts and i want to clean the complete keyboard system and check every key for functionality.

Is there a good tutorial available, especially for the Clevo ones or even my model?

  2. The main problem is, that this community has rather few members and not everyone left is tinkering around with their laptops anymore. Like me for example.

Normally, i only login once a week, because there is not much interesting activity. This is not, what NoteBookReview once was. Unfortunately.

In addition, there are not many models on the market available, that can be used for modding. Almost none with current hardware. Which makes such a forum really difficult to maintain.

  3. I got hands on an almost brand-new MS Surface Pro 11 OLED, but i fear that no current Linux distro will be able to support a detachable with current hardware. Even the Linux on Surface project hasn't done any reliable testing on this model

I will throw a couple of distros at it and will see, if something is working. If not, i can always switch back to Windows 11. Fedora has a Mobile Spin version available, but this is intended mainly for smartphones. Ubuntu is already a track record of supporting touch&pen on some devices, but none with current hardware.

I'll keep you posted on my journey, but my hopes are dim.

  4. My current laptop, a Legion 5 Pro, is the first i own, that can power/charge external USB devices when turned off, as long as the laptop is main powered.

Regardless of PD capabilities, every USB port is charging an external device.

Could this concern the health of the battery in the long run? I am limiting battery charging to 80%, because the laptop is used as a DTR.

  5. I don't see it as bad as with Windows - which i still also use - to be behind in security issues. You don't have that much critical ones with Linux. If you are paranoid and want to be really on the safe side, the current kernel is the best for sure. The most effort is going into this one.
To be honest, my backup laptop has elementaryOS running on the 2nd SSD and like it a lot.

More of a warning statement, not a no-go.

  6. I like the challenge of being ahead of MS with my hardened clutter-free version of WIndows 11. Until now - with minor regular modifications - i am totally fine with it. They try, they fail. And since i am not alone with this, i always find solutions, if anything comes up with an update.
My Win11 is running rather lightweight and very solid, let them come. And i always have Linux running on my 2nd SSD and my 2nd laptop.

  7. I am using my 2017 FanControl license from Obsidian computers (RIP) through Wine. Best fan and temp control i have ever had. Works as with Windows.

Games through Steam, no issues there.

Haven't used HWmonitor since switching to Linux. I am pretty sure there is one for Linux.
