RTX 4000 mobile series officially released.

I'll believe it when I see it. nVidia has been quite strict on TDPs. Clevo didn't even have a 200w vBIOS for RTX 2080 (you had to flash AW vBIOS).

If it's true it will be good news for all since you should be able to flash vBIOS using programmer still on other laptops

Yes it is, as a matter of fact, it will be matching a 3090 (at least the 150w max power variants with 25w dynamic boost)

the 4080 is faster than 3090ti, the 4090 mobile is a underclocked 4080 desktop, so it's not crazy to see the 4090 mobile beat desktop 3090

4080 timespy results, according to reddit.

Only around 25% better than my Legion 7 with a regular 3080 and 11th gen intel.

I don't think it outscores a desktop 3080 in GPU score.

Some of us have seen things others haven't 😉

All I will say is...wait until after Feb 1st.

Don't forget 4090 mobile has varying TDP from 80w to 150w.

How do you know which TDP that TS result was from? [not to mention it is 4080 mobile NOT 4090 mobile]

I specifically mentioned the "150w models". Of course a 80 or 90w 4090 will not beat desktop 3090.

of course if nVidia decides to screw themselves and limit performance for launch then that's on them.

But 150w (+25w DB) 4090 Mobile should match rtx 3090 if not beat 3090. 😄

Have you seen the chart on the first page?

4090 Mobile 80-150w

4080 Mobile 60-150w

4070/60/50 35-115W

The TDP range this gen is absolutely insane. You will have a 4070 that can be 35w and 115w, the performance gap will be insane.

Expect extremely varying performance this gen, it isn't even fair to call some of these gpus by the name they are with low tdp

i have to say not impressive at all,
the graphs clearly show the heat is ramping that system down its knees half way through the bench,
here's one my 3DMARK results from 12950HX with 3080Ti which are not far off, and my score is not even average for the hardware segment, my CPU score is actually better and my unit is still with Dell's crappy paste, this is off a none gaming platform (Dell Precision 7770 with dGpu TGP @ 150 and 240w power supply), benched on my desk with 74c ambiant https://www.3dmark.com/spy/34145892

It's crazy that a 2 "generation" old gpu (2080>2080S>3080>3080Ti) & 3 generation old cpu & (9900K>10900K>11900K>12950HX) [in laptops of course]:

is only 37% away cpu wise despite having half the cores

is only 21% away gpu wise despite being a older gen and lower class of card

0VilBsZ.png

Not to mention these older laptops have much better OC room than newer ones (I can run 5.3Ghz on my 9900K in Area-51m R1: https://valid.x86.fr/9brbj6 but for 24/7 obviously I keep it stock because it already maxes out games at 1080p)

That TS score is also of my Area-51m just sitting on my desk. FS score closes the gap even less.

0ixPab1.png

I skipped 10th, 11th, 12th gen laptops due to this. 13th gen looks like it'll finally widen the gap (but only at the very high end).

the 4090 will be the only good gpu upgrade this gen

4080 will be an okay ish upgrade

4070/60/50 will be a joke (maybe 10-20% at best)

That is why I am thinking about turning in both Desktop and Laptop for this gen.

9900k in SFF desktop is limited by space to a 3070ti. It doesn't make sense at this time to run two setups, or upgrade the desktop in pieces when a single larger laptop might exceed both in both GPU and CPU.

Then I will wait until next gen for a new desktop as I plan to be more stationary then.

If you are going all out (RTX 4090 Mobile + i9 13900HX) then I think you will be happy (assuming manufacturers can tame the heat).

Here is some gameplay with two games being played without DLSS:

Looks to be a bit too close and the fps with the two non DLSS games would imply that the 4090 mobile is performing closer to the 4080 desktop card than to the 4070 Ti desktop which I find hard to believe.

That is my concern and why I emphasized sustained load.

Benchmark will only tell so much in terms of heat dissipation/saturation

With 175W max TGP I have hardly seen high temperatures for either big Clevo or MSI DTRs as of late. That is as long as the fans run at full speed and from what I have seen this also goes for the top Asus ROG units. I would only expect issues if one wanted to game at max load and in a relatively quiet environment.

Those numbers seem fairly impressive to me. Close to the 4080's numbers indeed, around 10% or so.

Those temps are pegged at 85c, so definitely maxing the thermal capabilities of a laptop. Dynamic temp targeting, or was that an AMD thing?

It definitely beats a 3080 so it will work for me.

When were the new laptops supposed to release/order?

Any idea on what a 60w 4070 can do? The Asus flow series also looks interesting

From what I've been told, expect to be disappointed in

4050/4060/4070 performance.

60w 4070 will probably be terrible performance.

4080 will be decent

and 4090 will be good.

nVidia really screwed up the 4000 mobile lineup with castrated bus width, low core count, etc.

We should hopefully start seeing some numbers starting end of next week

@Mr. Fox What is revolutionary with a power delivery system that can deliver up to 250W combined power in laptops? This is even less than what the single 980 laptop graphics card from 2015 consume by its own when oc'd.

The part that is revolutionary is the widespread celebration of lameness and mediocrity. All they need to do is say it is special for the sheeple to get excited. It doesn't matter that it is a lie because its success is derived exclusively from the ignorance of consumers.

The revolutionary part is that today more than ever mediocrity can be sold as superiority. This takes on an Orwellian quality as of late with zero progress or regression being sold to the customer as some stupendous improvement.

I guess that all major laptop manufacturers except for Clevo have the advantage of having stopped really powerful designs years ago so now they can celebrate mediocrity as something to be applauded as they had these in between years that were even worse.

MSI is as guilty as any company as it is beyond silly to sell the exact same power envelope as last year as revolutionary. They did not even bother to go with a small increase to let's say 260 or 275W as I can only assume that manufacturers have formed some secret cartel of mediocrity whereby no manufacturer is advertising more than 250W combined for CPU and GPU so that they can all continue to offer their thin and light "behemoths" as the gullible call them.

The result is that now we have 18" screen laptops with a chassis that has less volume than former 15.6" workstations.

As it looks like the only exception is the Alienware 18m which seems to be bigger but with its own strange shortcomings despite its weight and dimensions.

100%... Well said, Brother. Yup, each will rise to their own level of incompetence. There is not a single shred of awesome or excellent to be found.
