Everything then devolves into a cross-over crapfest between 4000 and 5000 on a level as bad if not worse than 3000 and 4000.

 

Launch  5000 level AI, Launch halo 5090, keep things the same below it for 4-6 months if not longer since there is zero competition to fully extract maximum value from Ada. Wait for AMD and Intel to fire their salvos. Respond with destructive glee as always....

 

Speculation of the highest tier of course....(channeling my inner @johnksss 🤣)

 

 

 

 

 


Remember nvidia isn’t keen make new GeForce gaming cards now that can compete with their workstations cards. More vram for next gen gaming cards will reduce their profits. The reason 4090 is so damn expensive is because prosumers use them as workstations cards. +16-24GB vram is enough to use gaming cards as workstations cards for cheap. And offer cheap 16-24GB CARDS isn’t wanted.

Interestingly, Nvidia seemingly makes no changes to Blackwell's memory sizes. Laptop users may not have access to 16GB until they scale up to the GeForce RTX 5080. This would be a minor improvement since Nvidia's current mobile Ada lineup doesn't offer a 16GB SKU unless you grab the flagship GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop. It's similar to AMD, which also only has the Radeon RX 7900M that comes with 16GB of memory.

Being cynical and skeptical, I wonder if the main reason this is being experimented with on desktop boards is because somebody does not want their pet project to fail. The idea of using these CAMM things in turdbooks is probably DOA because it takes up as much or more space than SO-DIMMs in a market where an irrational pursuit of thin and light trash is the primary driving force.

 

If it survives for two or more hardware generations, can be purchased for less than traditional memory kits, and becomes the new industry standard, at that point it would be something where I would embrace adoption.

While it is easier to cool down CAMM2 modules using a waterblock, it should be kept in mind that this form-factor was designed for density, not for ultimate performance. Therefore its signal contacts are located very close to each other, which could result in such effects as cross talk and interference. This is not a problem for operation at standard frequencies, but it usually affects overclocking potential.
 

And what with possible double sided modules or double up with two Camm slots?

Yeah, too many unknown issues to be excited about this change. The way things go now, things rarely turn out as good as expected and I do not expect this will end well. It's unusual when new tech stuff doesn't suck. This is because the companies that design and manufacture technology products are idiots and the industry is composed of entities that are fundamentally dishonest. So, a wait and see ho-hum approach is the safest bet. Time will tell. I don't want to fund their unnecessary and frivolous experiments.

People have too much trust into stupid engineers and for their preferred brand. You can’t fix stupidity. Also Asus tried similar for their high end motherboards. Update bios via forced updates from apps and Windows servers is perverse.

Allowing updates to occur is never smart. Too many undisclosed things can occur. I have updates "paused" until August of 3000 and my target version for updates is 21H2 (22H2 is installed). According to Micro$lop documentation, if you have an invalid target version manually selected, no feature updates will be available to the computers with an invalid target version. I have also disabled the ability for the OS to query Micro$lop Update servers for the presence of available updates. A "don't ask, don't tell, do nothing" approach to managing updates.

I'm all for innovation also as long as the industry as a whole adopts the standard. If it's proprietary feces, then I want nothing to do with it. If it runs cooler, and clocks higher I'm all for it too.

Well, I still have not had any luck getting the aqua vbios to work, but I did flash the Asrock taichi power bios, and my card is almost back to normal. Come to find out, I was flashing at 3.3v. I'm lucky I didn't cook one of the chips. I will double check and make sure I downloaded the correct aqua bios from techpowerup, and try again.

You're very lucky. Luckily along that variable ~1.8v-6.6v range it settled somewhat in the proper range and you didn't torch it.

 

I always keep one of these around for 1.8v programming:

I made this comment after watching LTT's Qualcomm advertisement a few days ago, some people agree and others don't. Most people made points to their argument, which I love to see, but this fella is the type of person to disappoint me. Closed-minded without explaining his point of view and jumping to a conclusion.

I've been reading the discussions here about CAMM. While I am of the same mindset of "let others test it first," I do think it has some potential. I'm mostly just hoping for an entire revision to RAM. I've seen many people complain about the many problems that DIMMs have, so I hope to see something supersede it as we drastically increase RAM speeds (and while tighter integration as I mentioned above is an answer, it's an answer I don't like). The only thing I don't like about CAMM is that it's just one module. Rest in peace if you are on a budget and want to expand in the future...

I've also acquired a Steam Deck. I had some wallet balance and some old skins for Counter Strike I got rid of, so I ended up getting the 64gb variant for pretty cheap. While many of you in this thread might not care for this type of technology, I think it's pretty interesting and has some potential for gaming (and even sometimes, light computing) on the go. Super low wattage APU's are pretty cool, and seeing how AMD's Strix and Strix Halo are around the corner, I'm excited to see what the future holds.

Funny, I just watched that video today. "Seems like you hate efficiency got it 👍" warrants a response like "Seems like you love e-waste and disposable products... yeah, that's really efficient... good job." and these are the same ridiculous bozos that believe humans are causing climate change and have the ability to affect or influence it. Hypocrisy is just one of the syptoms of abject stupidity.

Well, I now have taichi's stock power bios and taichi's standard aqua bios installed. Now I need to usee DDU, and uninstall the driver, then use the .exe file to update the aqua bios to the extreme variant. At least I'm done taking the waterblock off and on. 1.8v, and the proper vbios from techpowerup. Now to find some time to torture it, as if the poor thing hasn't been through enough. 🤣👍

5090 Leaks so far as far as accuracy goes no one knows but typically leaks from a certain sources tend to be fairly accurate. usually within 10 percent of the actual card when it releases.

rest unkown and nothing can really be drawn from it other than they are gunning according to the leaks for 50 percent increase over 4090, which is good but the sources are saying it will also cost 50 percent more which is good for users with the 4090 as the 4090s price will not be affected adversely.

 

I will be saving up for a few months and likely jump on a 5090 unless geforce now releases more games and a 5080-5090 gpu in the cloud. running natively is nice but games are not advancing very fast(see sloth) and honestly im not a hardcore gamer with eagles eyes. but if games get released that show 1 or two reasons to spend 5k then im all for it...bring on the next crysis

I opened up theAssus Matrix 980Ti. Not very impressed over the paste job done by Asus for their overprice flagship card. As well see what Asus offer of binning for their flagship. What's wrong with Asus? Going cheapo for the binning. Thermal paste job done by blind monkeys. And Asus can't even afford cooling for the vram for their gaming flagship. And the only flagship coming with wimpy 2x 8-pinspower connectors of the tree big brands. Weird Asus is still in the tech top. 

 

Every new gen of Asus hardware have some major flaws. Something is very good and something is very bad. Flagship products shouldn't have major flaws. Their culture can't be changed over night. All too much is wrong.

This is the cooler from Galax. Nickel plated copper cold plate. Come with 7 pipes and as well cooler for the vram. And the paste joblooks decent.

The card looks in very good shape. But the card need a re-paste. Remember the card in unopened (never re-pasted) and the card is 9 years old.

Screenshot-267.png@Mr. Fox How is this even possible? Asus bin their best 980Ti Matrix Platinum cards from mid 60% Asic and upwards. I got asic 81.5% and Samsung while others get the pure bottom trash and loads of Matrix cards come with with Hynix.

Asic scores (quality measurements) range from 67% to 85% is awful graceful for flagship products. This should have never happened from any company. And if I have digged more I'm sure I would see samples down to low 60% asic. Sad seeing this is the normal. Even today (yep, we don't have asic scores to measure quality anymore but some things will never change - we are still offered trash).
